Beeby was once a larger settlement but today has dwindled to only a handful of houses, it comes as no surprise then to find the church had become redundant, but has happily been vested in the Churches Conservation Trust who continue to maintain it.
The most striking aspect of this attractive ironstone church is its handsome late medieval west tower, distinctively crowned with the 'sawn off' stump of an intended spire (which it seems was never finished). The remainder of the building is mostly of 14th century date with later adjustments (such as the addition of a clerestorey), though the chancel is an early 19th century rebuild in brick, and seems a little undersized for this otherwise fairly grand building.
Within there is the slight sense of sparseness associated with retired churches but plenty of interest to enjoy. The woodwork is a surprising mix, with late Georgian box pews on the south side of the nave and and an extremely 14th century wooden rood screen, partially restored but retaining its fine tracery forms (of which a further section can be seen in the south aisle). There is a rather charming font (13th century with a later bowl and cover) and a profusion of quirky carvings added as part of a major restoration in the early 19th century.
Beeby church is happily generally kept open for visitors during the day, one of the admirable aims of the Trust who preserve our heritage and keep it accessible for all to enjoy.
Why are skeletons wearing a pair of shorts so popular in many shop window displays? This is a question that has puzzled many shoppers and fashion experts alike. Some possible explanations are:
- Skeletons are trying to show off their bones and attract other skeletons.
- Shorts are cheaper than other clothes and skeletons are on a tight budget.
- Shorts are easier to put on and take off than pants or skirts, which is convenient for skeletons who often fall apart.
- Shorts are more comfortable than other clothes and skeletons have sensitive skin.
- Shorts are more fashionable than other clothes and skeletons have a keen sense of style.
But shorts are not the only skeleton fashion trend. Skeletons also like to wear hats, scarves, sunglasses, and even jewelry. They like to accessorize and express their personality. Some skeletons prefer a casual look, while others go for a more elegant or edgy style. Skeletons have a lot of fun with fashion and don't care what others think. They are confident and proud of their appearance. Next time you see a skeleton in shorts, or any other outfit, don't be afraid to say hello and compliment their outfit. They might just give you a smile and a wink.
Across from the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel (reflected in the window), so possibly the Harvey Nichols window display? Or one of the other shops nearby.
Testing Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro w/VMWare. Surprisingly usable (w/out installing anything else). It's snappy!
Windows of Ireland-9-28-07-Gas station window in Ennistymon of County Clare with the ivy growing around it taking on the colors of fall. Reflection in the window of the house across the street. The young man who pumped our gas looked like a young Vince Gill, of country music fame, making us do a double-take.
This is an out of bounds. I would ask you to look carefully at the photo, because all is not what it seems. The old victorian home is a real beauty and for sale. I would like to buy this one, but it is way out of my league. Anyway, I thought it might interesting to do a view through a window with a new twist. This two separate photos combined to create one image. I hope you enjoy it.

This object is of a set of windows and a concrete brick wall. I like the reflection that has been formed in the window's glass. You can see the opposite house in them, this in turn creates a photo within a photo. The object does not smell of anything but is rough, hard and smooth. It has been lit up by natural light and that is why reflection has happened.
