Leyland Titan T512 had its upper deck gutted by fire in an arson attack in early 1988. The decision was taken to convert the bus to open top and the work was completed by July of the same year.

It initially operated in a modified version of London Buses livery, with the white cantrail band being moved higher to just below the upper deck window line. It gained the name 'The Phoenix' at the same time.

Later on it gained another take on London Buses livery with the between decks area painted cream. East London Coaches fleetnames and two red relief bands completed the look. It is seen here in this guise at Romford in less than ideal conditions for an open top service!
