Raindrops gathered on a windowpane capture soft light and shadow, blurring the outside world into abstract poetry.

Before the buzz of Michigan Avenue begins, Kilwins sits quietly—its marble counter catching the first light of day, trays of caramel apples lined up like little treasures waiting for their moment. Captured at 6am, this peaceful scene offers a rare behind-the-glass look at the preparation behind the indulgence.

Located just steps from Millennium Park, Kilwins is a local favourite for handcrafted sweets and classic Americana charm. This photo captures the calm before the sugar rush.

This image was taken from the window of my first home in Utrecht, Zuilen, shortly after moving from the USA. Although I had been placed in a less-than-ideal apartment that didn’t match what I had chosen from the website, it became a space of personal growth. The grimy window and the grungy apartment were far from perfect, but they marked the beginning of my journey as an international student. It was a month of deep reflection, navigating both the external world of a new country and the internal world of change. Despite the apartment’s flaws, this moment symbolized my first taste of independence and the start of something new. The light filtering through the dirty window offered a sense of hope and renewal, reminding me that even imperfect situations can lead to moments of clarity and personal transformation.
