I like to set my window unit to "TurboCool" 'round the clock but how many people in Pittsburgh can afford to buy $25 bellydancing scarfs in this awful depression? Several of the best bellydance shows I ever saw were in Pittsburgh but even then the scarfs looked like they cost $10 tops.

May 2, 2021 - Central Ohio Fire Museum located in former Engine House No. 16 at 260 N 4th Street in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
"The museum was founded in 1983 by a group of Columbus firefighters who wanted to preserve firefighting history. They formed a non-profit group that same year, the “Columbus Ohio Fire Fighter’s Museum” (our actual legal name). They were able to lease the current building from the city after the station was closed in 1982. It took 20 years of work and fundraising to get the museum open. It took about $900,000 to restore the outside of the building to its original look and renovate the first floor. The museum opened to the public in 2002." I dislike the house because I cannot help but associate it with the white people of early 1930s north-central Florida. I do like to see palms and junipers in proximity to one another.

Ah 1950s apartment buildings, with the small touches of glass block, and the poorly-insulated difficult-to-operate windows we associate the buildings of that time.
We do not wish to live in areas dominated by 1950s apartment buildings, but we enjoy having them scattered around here and there, among buildings from other decades, to look at.

July 1, 2017 - We are now heading to dinner on a busy night in Hong Kong. Today is the 20th anniversary that Hong Kong was returned to Mainland China and after dinner we walked through Temple Street known for shopping followed by a ride on the subway since our bus was stuck in traffic. We then met up with our bus and drove up Victoria Peak to watch the celebratory fireworks display.

This is a Polaroid photograph of the back door of my son's house in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The old metal awning over the door casts a long shadow on the white aluminum siding from the morning sun.
My grandparents bought this house in the late 1950s; and my mother spent most of her childhood here. When my grandma died, my mom and my uncle inherited the house and sold it to my son. I live here with him.

This picture is from 2007 and in them [sic] days I wouldn't have thought twice about pulling myself up the staircase and ringing the doorbell of this/these stranger's/strangers' house. Times have changed in the U.S. and nowadays there's a good chance I'd be shot to death for trespassing if I did that.
"Two window air conditioners and vines on the awnings," maybe a good line for a sentimental song about a house.

Gray was a weird choice of paint color for the first floor but I guess it looks okay. We have dark red brickwork atop a wall of tan bricks.
The local assessor website (for Beaver County, Pennsylvania) asserts that the building is from 1930. The latest city directory I was able to find for Rochester online is from 1927-1928, and the building was not yet listed at that time.
I see where the building formerly contained a cigar shop. The building's Beaver County property record card says it used to be a laundromat.
