One of the 13th century windows of the south choir aisle at Chartres. The left hand light incorporates famous depictions of the signs of the Zodiac.
Sadly I lacked a decent zoom lens and tripod to really do any justice to the wealth of wonderful glass here.
East window by Frederick Preedy 1861.
St Mary & St Milburga's church in Offenham retains its handsome 15th century west tower, but the rest of the medieval building was completely rebuilt in 1861-2 to the designs of Frederick Preedy, the well known Worcestershire architect who was born in the village. Preedy was also responsible for the design of the furnishings and in particular the stained glass so the interior we see today is very much his vision (only the font remains from the old church).
The church is normally open and welcoming to visitors.

One for the windows set (although you would have thought just one pane might survive). Originally built as a corn warehouse built in 1857 for the Great Northern Railway Company, it was designed by Nottingham Architect T C Hine in conjunction with the adjacent main station building on London Road. This collection of windows awaits installation at one of Toronto's West Donlands building projects. It must be worth a lot. I know. Several years ago we replaced all the windows in our century home and the job didn't come cheap.
Incidentally, from time to time I reflect on the miracle of windows. For most of mankind's history we didn't have glass windows to let in the light and keep out the weather. Thank goodness for glass.
i know i haven't uploaded any artwork for ages but recently my horrible perfectionism is getting in the way of me liking anything i've produced.
There was a fat white rabbit in my yard today. Then a little baby bunny hopped in to join the rabbit... I thought Punkin was going to hit the roof! Just to put Punkin over the edge, a large hawk swooped down into the yard in hopes of catching the bunny... but the bunny hid in the bushes just in time. Good bunny! Needless to say, Punkin spent most of the morning window shopping for things that he cannot have.
*The house is getting new floors so this is just the naked sub-floor waiting to have the real stuff put down.
I have recently read an article from a wedding photographer who never uses a flash. relying on natural light aided by an occasional reflector. Needless to say the results she achieved were remarkable.
It was in my head when I took this (unawares) portrait of an old friend of mine as he stared into space for a moment.
