"It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself." - Eleanor Roosevelt
-----
Had today to close off the weekend and spent the majority of the morning moving around the house and getting through some things I just didn't have time to do yesterday; like reorganizing the kid's stuff and filter what gets put where until their next visit. Nothing too exciting, but still, needed to be done.
Spent the afternoon getting snacks and food ready for the week before heading out to enjoy a book in the sunshine.
All in all, a good Monday and delay to the start of the work week.
Hope you've all had a good day.

… one month yes, and one no, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina sends me on a three-day mission (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Sant'Anna…In my spare time, free from work commitments, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs that I present here were all taken in the months of this year 2023; I made various photos according to the dictates of street photography (or street photography), I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand, very willing to let themselves be photographed (perhaps it will be ... that the people of the island are open-minded, eager and used to to communicate with strangers..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work; all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except for two taken in the port of Milazzo, the departure and arrival point of the hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands. I met (and photographed) the sweet lady, very good and appreciated American artist, Mrs Janette Little (photographed together with her affable and very nice husband, of Aeolian origins); of the talented artist mrs Janette in addition to her portrait I propose two of her works, I had noticed them some time ago, I had wanted to bring some photos of these works with me, now I propose them in black and white because this is a monochrome series, I note however that the originals are in color, for those wishing to see his works, I add the link to his web site below.

Uriah Heep - "Take Away My Soul"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9S_s2NiEQo
Take away my soul
See the look upon my face
That's forever
Losing all control
Trying not to fall from grace
That's forever
We make the same mistakes
But some they take much longer
You like to show them to the world
It's just a photograph
A shot in space and time
I put my trust in you
But now I can't go on
Take away my soul
See the look upon my face
That's forever
Losing all control
Trying not to fall from grace
That's forever
If you could only know how this makes me feel
How did we let it get so far
Stealing my soul away for everyone to see
We can never be the same again, oh no, no
I am not a person willing to buy into this (I'm a free man)
I stand by my own decision I made long ago (I'm a free man)
I am stronger and I go my own way
We make the same mistakes
But some they take much longer
You like to show them to the world
It's just a photograph
A shot in space and time
I put my trust in you
But now I can't go on
Take away my soul
See the look upon my face
That's forever
Losing all control
Trying not to fall from grace
That's forever

Williamsburg Bridge between Manhattan's Lower East Side and Brooklyn's Williamsburg district.
New York City, September 2017.
I always have a weak spot for people who dare to be different and when I meet such a person I want to photograph him of her. At first he was shy but I convinced him by telling him that I admire his unique identity. For me, the expression always counts. And then he was willing to pose, in his own way. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
He was very happy with the result and so was I.

“Vulnerability is not weakness, and the uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure we face every day are not optional. Our only choice is a question of engagement. Our willingness to own and engage with our vulnerability determines the depth of our courage and the clarity of our purpose; the level to which we protect ourselves from being vulnerable is a measure of our fear and disconnection.” ― Brené Brown
Looking out over the windswept Oregon coastline, ominous clouds gather overhead as a curtain of rain softens the horizon. A lone rock offers tenuous shelter to the seabirds and seals that live along this stretch of the Pacific ocean. Misty light filters down through the darkening, roiling sky, lending a soft glow to the moody seascape.
As the storm moves ashore, I capture a few frames and think about how it is difficult not to feel small in a world of such overwhelming beauty. Read more on the blog.

"Do not ask anyone to guide your footsteps, if you are not willing to move your feet." Unknown.
The Porto Cathedral, located at one of the highest points in its historic center, is one of the oldest buildings in this beautiful city. Its construction began in the 12th century, and although it took several centuries to complete the temple, most of its architecture shows an interesting Romanesque style.
On our second day in Porto, I had planned to photograph some other view of the city at sunset, different from the one I got the night before. However, considering that the sunset was not going to be colorful at all, and that the Dom Luís I bridge had also been the main element of my photography at sunrise, I decided to change my mind. To get my new goal, my wife and I had to walk quickly through the steep alleys that go from the Bairro da Ribeira to the Cathedral. Despite arriving almost at blue hour, I had already explored the area during the day, so it was clear to me how to use the walkway in front of the temple to guide the view through the composition. Once again, the fatigue of many days traveling, was not an impediment to find strength and get another photograph for my portfolio.

I admire people who are willing to work, who enjoy their work, who work hard, and who spend their lives working to make other people's lives better. In return, those people usually discover their work is a blessing to them as well.

I had fun the other day hanging out at the duck pond in San Lorenzo park. There were lots of seagulls,,,so tame, but willing to fly when I crept right up next to them with my stealth camera:")

Our challenge to anyone willing to drive for hours, find this house. Add your own polaroids. Fill it up. We want to go back in a year and find every room bursting with your little wasted art attempts. Take a couple if you want, but leave behind even more. Make it grow, make it AMAZING.
Major thanks to my beautiful friend, Libby, for always being willing to dress up and model for me :) I was really inspired by Alice in Wonderland yesterday :)

The Devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind the way behind and willing to make a deal
When he came across this young man pickin' a guitar and playin' it hot
The Devil jumped up on a hickory stump and said, "Boy, let me tell you what."
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a guitar player, too
And if you'd care to take this dare I'll make a bet with you
Now you a pretty damn good strummer, boy, but give the Devil his due
I'll bet a guitar of gold against your soul that says I'm better than you"
But the boy said, "My name's Johnny, and it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet; you're gonna regret, I'm the best there's ever been."
The Devil opened up his case and he said, "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips as he tuned his axe down low
And he pulled that pick across the strings and it made an evil hiss
Then a band of demons all joined in and it sounded just like this
When the Devil finished, Johnny said, "Well, you're pretty good, old son
Well sit your old ass in that chair right there, let me show you how the fuck it's done."
The Devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that gold guitar down on the ground at Johnny's feet
But Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back, if you ever wanna try again
I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been!"

1. The Glass Prison
[music by Myung, Petrucci, Portnoy, Rudess]
[lyrics by Mike Portnoy]
[I. REFLECTION]
Cunning, Baffling, Powerful
Been beaten to a pulp
Vigorous, Irresistable
Sick and tired and laid low
Dominating, Invincible
Black-out, loss of control
Overwhelming, Unquenchable
I'm powerless, have to let go
I can't escape it
It leaves me frail and worn
Can no longer take it
Senses tattered and torn
Hopeless surrender
Obsession's got me beat
Losing the will to live
Admitting complete defeat
Fatal Descent
Spinning around
I've gone too far
To turn back round
Desperate attempt
Stop the progression
At any length
Lift this obsession
Crawling to my glass prison
A place where no one knows
My secret lonely world begins
So much safer here
A place where I can go
To forget about my daily sins
Life here in my glass prison
A place I once called home
Fall in nocturnal bliss again
Chasing a long lost friend
I no longer can control
Just waiting for this hopelessness to end
[II. RESTORATION]
Run - fast from the wreckage of the past
A shattered glass prison wall behind me
Fight - past walking through the ashes
A distant oasis before me
Cry - desperate crawling on my knees
Begging God to please stop the insanity
Help me - I'm trying to believe
Stop wallowing in my own self pity
"We've been waiting for you my friend
The writing's been on the wall
All it takes is a little faith
You know you're the same as us all"
Help me - I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me - I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me - I can't restore my sanity alone
Enter the door
Desperate
Fighting no more
Help me restore
To my sanity
At this temple of hope
I need to learn
Teach me how
Sorrow to burn
Help me return
To humanity
I'll be fearless and thorough
To enter this temple of hope
Believe
Transcend the pain
Living the life
Humility
Opened my eyes
This new odyssey
Of rigorous honesty
Serenity
I never knew
Soundness of mind
Helped me to find
Courage to change
All the things that I can
"We'll help you perform this miracle
But you must set your past free
You dug the hole, but you can't bury your sole
Open your mind and you'll see"
Help me - I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me - I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me - I can't restore my sanity alone
[III. REVELATION]
Way off in the distance I saw a door
I tried to open
I tried forcing with all of my will and still
The door wouldn't open
[replaced with "but" in this line]
Unable to trust in my faith
I turned and walked away
I looked around, felt a chill in the air
Took my will and turned it over
The glass prison which once held me is now gone
["now" is not heard in this line]
A long lost fortress
Armed only with liberty
And the key of my willingness
Fell down on my knees and prayed
"Thy will be done"
I turned around, saw a light shining through
The door was wide open
I was busy enjoying the World Cup Quarter Final match of Brazil v Belgium, Brazil were 2-0 down but starting to press Belgium for a comeback. Willing Brazil on I went to the kitchen to pour myself the first drink of a Friday night when I noticed that the overcast afternoon had suddenly broken through and there was nice light across a broken sky. I have been stalking Cockshaw Hill for a few weeks now that the heather is in bloom, looking for the right sky and the right time, tonight looked frustratingly good! Well the rum ended up getting put back in the fridge and ten minutes later the car was packed and off I went, time was tight and I ran up the hill from Gribdale Gate, huffing and puffing in the stifling air of the ongoing heatwave, luckily there was nary a soul in sight, I had this lovely location and sunset to myself.
This was the very first frame of the evening, I am working on a project for the BBC called 'A Wild Year', it is a documentary due to be broadcast in late 2019/early 2020 which is due to feature timelapse footage of the North York Moors National Park, I am hoping that the timelapse that follows this shot is as beautiful as this capture.
Now, to enjoy the rescued rum from the fridge and to process my timelapse!
While searching for birds willing to pose I took a break while hiking near the lower part of Bethel Ridge Road and took a few shots of wildflowers. Wind was blowing so these shot are not as sharp as I would like. As always if my identification is incorrect please let me know. Native plant names often seem to change. I used names that I know from many years ago. IMG_7818

"I am sixteen, going on seventeen. I know that I'm naive.
Fellows I meet, may tell me I'm sweet. And willingly I believe."
2 birds, 1 stone...or 2 ideas, 1 pic.
I've been wanting to do a pic of Bree with reference to The Sound of Music since she turned 16 last year.
Now with the seemingly endless list of movie titles from the GMR, here's my chance (and yes, it was in there - in the end finale film!)
