It feeds on larger insects and on small rodents

right after dawn while I was taking images of this Little Owl it got harrassed by a couple of Blackbirds that were foraging in the area together with their offspring.

The male Liitle Owl reacts instantly and raises its sharp claws when the noisy male Blackbird flies by

These kind of confrontations are much more common in the breeding season

a large and widespread eagle that lives in rather dry and fairly open areas but typically not in areas without trees.

Besides capturing its own prey the Tawny also steals kills from other birds of prey and is also a scavenger. Actually just like the Bateleur the Tawny Eagle often finds dead animals before the vultures arrive.

Like so many other large birds of prey this is an endangered species now and the numbers continue to decrease.

the Klipspringer is a small but stocky antelope living in rocky areas in Eastern and Southern Africa. It is mostly active during the night but can often be seen in the early morning.

It is mostly a browser but on occasions it has been observed eating grass.

The image clearly shows the short and sharp horns of the male. The black patch visible underneath the eye is a preorbital gland.

taken in a woodland area in Kafue NP, Zambia while looking for Sable Antelopes. I still remember being harassed by the tsetse flies in those woodlands.

This beautiful kingfisher is widespread across sub-Saharan Africa. Partially a resident species and partially an intra-African migrant, it prefers broad-leafed woodland and savanna.

It feeds on large insects and occasionally on small vertebrates such as lizards

This famous little beauty is an inhabitant of marshland and reedbeds where it moves around restlessly

It is very difficult to see and only occasionally emerges from the reeds to feed at the water's edge.. It has a quite musical song.
