Cool night up Wildboar Clough in the Peak District with Rich tonight.

Usual arrangement here with gelled torches and net curtains.

Was great to be out and there's he more to come from here I'm sure.

This is 133 of my 366.

The waterfall at 3 Shires head in the Peak District.

I decided to burn off the Christmas calories with a walk from Wildboar Clough to the waterfall where the borders of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire meet. There are 2 pack horse bridges here and a couple of quite impressive little waterfalls. From what I've read this place is usually heaving but, with the exception of 2 guys on classic off road trails bikes, I had the place to myself.

I have to say it was bitterly cold and the band of cloud that storm Conor was pulling behind it soon cleared, but nevertheless it was well worth the walk.

Something a little different from my local regional park. Yup, wild pig with her 7 piglets. I was astounded. She moved quickly over that ridge so this was the only image I got.

The park is part of the Chino Basin where, interestingly, four CA counties meet (San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, and Los Angeles). The basin's wild side turns out to be home for pigs as well as other local wildlife. The recent rains have pushed the pigs from their normal secluded homeland up and further out toward the park boundaries. So there you have it.

About wild pigs, from CA Dept. of Fish and Game: "Pigs (Sus scrofa) are native to Eurasia and northern Africa. In the early 1700s Spanish and Russian settlers introduced domestic pigs to California as livestock and many became feral. In the 1920s a Monterey county landowner introduced the European wild boar, a wild subspecies of Sus scrofa into California, which bred with the domestic pigs. The result of these introductions is a wild boar/feral domestic pig hybrid. ... Wild pigs currently exist in 56 of the state's 58 counties and can be found in a variety of habitats ranging from woodland, chaparral, meadow and grasslands. Wild pigs are omnivorous, consuming both plant and animal matter." They are now considered an invasive nuisance.

'Squeakers' appears to be the correct name of young of Wild boar when they are 10 months or younger, and I guess these two are.

By the way, in the left-hand corner you can see the leg and tail of an adult Wild boar, which shows how small the young are! [Explored on 11/11/2023, #97]

Bois du Breuil, Forest of Breuil. A rich forest, part of the commune of Équemauville and overlooking the communes (towns/villages) of Honfleur, Vasouy and Pennedepie as well as the River Seine. Sadly no shots of any adult boar from my last trip to the Forest of Dean, but here's one from January - a large male peering out from cover.

...time to beat a hasty retreat!

This is the mum of the Wild Boar hoglet I uploaded yesterday. We came across a family of them as we came out of a wood and into a clearing where they were foraging. Lucky for us they ran off in the opposite direction to us! Taken at Arroyo Frio, Andalucia, Spain.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

While eating my misto di mare on our second night in Sardinia I could see a rare few clouds bubbling over and decided it was trip back over to the wild side at sunset to make the most of it. I was not wrong it was the best sky of the whole holiday. This photo was taken with a 6 stop ND filter to take more of the little movement in the sea and the sunset streaking over the horizon with a shutter speed of 60 seconds. I was down on the rocks until the most of the colour went from the sky, and set off for my climb back up the cliff to the narrow path and my way back. Making it to the narrow path I reliased that I had forgot my hat, which I had taken of on the rocks below. Now this is a special hat as my grandchildren love it, you see it has a zipped pocket inside holding essential euros for ice creams. Leaving my camera gear I climb down again, retrieve the hat and make my way up to the narrow path. It was getting quite dark now and as I made my way around the cliff a big wild boar rushes across my path up into the scrub followed by mammy boar and 3 hefty juveniles. I certainly got a fright any closer and I would have been knocked of the path, in the end it was a great sight. BTW I did enjoy my misto di mare, good job it was not porchetta or it might have been the night of the pig’s revenge.

La terreur des viticulteurs...

The wild boar (Sus scrofa), also known as the wild swine, common wild pig, Eurasian wild pig, or simply wild pig, is a native to much of Eurasia and North Africa, and has been introduced to the Americas and Oceania. The species is now one of the widest-ranging mammals in the world, as well as the most widespread suiform.

Doñana National Park is a natural reserve in Andalusia, southern Spain. It covers 543 km2, of which 135 km2 are a protected area. The Parque Nacional de Doñana is one of Europe's most important wetland reserves and a major site for migrating birds. The parque itself and surrounding parque natural or Entorno de Doñana (a protected buffer zone) amount to over 1,300 km2 in the provinces of Huelva, Sevilla and Cádiz.

The park is an area of marsh, shallow streams, and sand dunes in Las Marismas, the Guadalquivir River Delta region where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It was established as a nature reserve in 1969 when WWF joined with the Spanish government and purchased a section of marshes to protect it. Tourism at that time and the spread of hotels along the beach had been a major threat, but is today well regulated, educated and supportive to the management of the park. There has been a constant threat to the ecosystem, that of drainage of the marshes, the use of river water to boost agricultural production by irrigating land along the coast.
