Went to pick up my daughter from school the other day and I was sitting in my car bored..so I started taking out of focus shots of the dashboard. I should have some fresh pictures up next week as I am headed to Tennessee!

Over the weekend I found myself at the Moreno Valley Mall with the family. This is a very common story of a big mall being built during the housing boom in the early 90's. Over the years the bigger named stores moved out. Part of the mall is still vacant. In the last couple years it does seem to be picking up. This is my 3rd Southern California Mall shot. I included the other 2 in the comments so you can compare.
This was a hand helded 4 exposure HDR.

Another shot from my trip to Tennessee. We were driving a long and I spoted this chapel and jumped out to grab a shot. Almost end of oct and I still need to get a blog post in. I turn 40 in 8 days..yikes!

I found this place by chance on Friday - I saw a rutted track leaving the side of the road near RAF portreath and with nothing else to do decided to drive all the way down it - it became an extreme off road track by the end but my old jallopy handled it fairly well and I ended up on the edge of a cliff. Does anyone know what this mine was called or if it is a mine? I know some of my contacts are fairly clued up on this sort of thing!

Ce matin ont eu lieu les funérailles d'un ami que j'aimais profondément.
Artiste extraordinaire, peintre et dessinateur, sculpteur, céramiste et j'en passe.
Mais surtout un homme au coeur immense, passionné, ultra-engagé, "à gauche toutes", dont toute la vie et l'art n'auront été qu'une révolte, un combat pour ses idées et idéaux.
Le "détail piquant" qui parlait (hurlait ?) certainement le plus :
auprès du cercueil, devant l'autel, là où trônerait habituellement un crucifix, était posée la toute dernière toile de Pierre.
Un groupe de 5 personnes, les bras, mains, poings levés, dressés, tendus, la violence habituelle de son discours. Avec pour seul fond un drapeau noir au vent... l'anarchie.
Dans une église :)
Et dans ce sourire, je l'ai entendu me glisser à l'oreille, avec son étincelle habituelle :
"ça a une sacrée gueule, hein ?"
Yes Pierre, je t'aime. "encore".

Part of Grayson Perry's Who Are You? exhibition in the national Portrait Gallery in London, glazed ceramic pot.
Perry's comment: Christopher Devas has Alzheimers disease. He was an immensely capable businessman, magistrate & sailor. The tragedy for his wife Veronica is that not only is Alzheimers robbing him of his memory & identity, it is also destroying a large portion of their shared memories. Close couples are joint custodians of each others experiences. Veronica has dubbed the disease 'Altzy'; I have portrayed it as a demonic figure snipping up all their family snaps.

What is life anyway? What with being emo all the time? When will you stop? Whats bothering you? Why is this happening to you? What's with down times? Can you still do this? Is there anyone out there for you? Should you stop typing now? What time is it? What are you thinking about? Why are you thinking about so many things? What's happening?

This is my very favourite of Perry's artworks. Hand embroidered on silk. His comment: These are five Loyalists from East Belfast. Four of them participated in a march I witnessed commemorating the centenary of the founding of the Ulster Volunteer Force & I was fascinated... Ironically being patriotic is not a particularly British trait. Their portrait is in the form of a banner that might be carried aloft on a march. I deliberately chose a very colourful & rather jolly style as the murals in East Belfast veer heavily towards the dour & aggressive. Part of the Who Are You? exhibition in the National Portrait Museum, London.
Interestingly, none of them had ever been to their 'mother country' & so were unaware that it is now a relatively tolerant, multi-cultural, multi-religious place where Protestantism & Catholicism are simply not an issue any more!
