A late summer evening visit to the birthplace of vampires. The abbey is widely known as the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Whitby, North Yorkshire

Taken from 'The Fleece' (Whitby UK)

Slightly different angle and some colour.

I got lucky with the weather on my first visit to Whitby. The sunset wasn't too bad and then we got this sunrise the next day.

The sun was dropping but the last light picked out St Mary's Church and the abbey.

With the Milkyway overhead. Otherwise known as Hawkser Lighthouse near Saltwick Bay.

A classic photograph of the abbey that many folk have taken in the past Here's one of my takes 👍

Whitby Abbey was a 7th century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. The abbey and its possessions were confiscated by the crown during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII. The abbey church was situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. The substantial ruins of the church have been declared a Grade I Listed building and are in the care of English Heritage, while its site museum is housed in Cholmley House.

It was the celebration of 250 years since Captain Cook set sail for Australia over the weekend and I was lured with the promise of fireworks from the pier.

I captured a few timelapses for my project, this is a still from one of them.
