Bar tailed Godwit - Liomosa Laponica

Norfolk

The bar-tailed godwit is a long-billed, long-legged wading bird which visits UK shores for the winter. Most usually seen in its grey-brown winter plumage, birds in spring may show their full rich chestnut breeding plumage. In flight it shows a white patch stretching from the rump up the back, narrowing to a point. It breeds in the Arctic of Scandinavia and Siberia and hundreds of thousands of them pass through the UK, on their way further south, or stop off here for the winter.

The bar-tailed godwit breeds on Arctic coasts and tundra mainly in the Old World, and winters on coasts in temperate and tropical regions of the Old World and of Australia and New Zealand. Its migration includes the longest known non-stop flight of any bird and also the longest journey without pausing to feed by any animal.

The bar-tailed godwit migrates in flocks to coastal East Asia, Alaska, Australia, Africa, northwestern Europe and New Zealand.

It was shown in 2007 to undertake the longest non-stop flight of any bird. Birds in New Zealand were tagged and tracked by satellite to the Yellow Sea in China. According to Dr. Clive Minton (Australasian Wader Studies Group): The distance between these two locations is 9,575 km (5,950 mi), but the actual track flown by the bird was 11,026 km (6,851 mi). This was the longest known non-stop flight of any bird. The flight took approximately nine days. At least three other bar-tailed godwits also appear to have reached the Yellow Sea after non-stop flights from New Zealand.

One specific female of the flock, nicknamed E7 flew onward from China to Alaska and stayed there for the breeding season. Then on 29 August 2007 she departed on a non-stop flight from the Avinof Peninsula in western Alaska to the Piako River near Thames, New Zealand, setting a new known flight record of 11,680 km (7,258 mi).

After receiving 13 inches of snow it’s comical to watch the squirrels try and get through the snow.

The Preto river, which rises at the base of Pico do Cristal, forms the Farofa, Sete Pilões and Aurélio waterfalls, on the Minas side.

The Sete Pilões waterfall is close to the Macieira camp and can be accessed by a 210 m / 689 ft long trail. Along its route, there are several practically circular wells with bluish water, which resemble pylons.

Camping at 1,860 m / 6,102 ft of altitude and that can be reached by 3,3 km / 2,05 miles of roads from the entrance of Pedra Menina (Espírito Santo State), being close to the São Domingos River.

Have a happy weekend friends! :)

it heightens red, and there is no flower or ripe fruit which it does not set off to greater advantage... it is both gay and modest, bright and tender. Green can only awaken amiable and gentle thoughts, remembrances gracious as those of spring, and other promises of nature: green gives repose to the mind, as it does to the sight :-)

Like North Falls further upstream, Middle North Falls has certain characteristics which one could argue give it an edge when comparing it to the park's main attraction, South Falls. Despite being considerably shorter, Middle North Falls is a markedly amorphous waterfall which changes physical shape in a very dramatic way as the volume of water in North Silver Creek changes. The 106 foot tall falls take the form of a narrow column of water during the summer months, funneled to perhaps 5 feet wide at most by a narrow runnel in the bedrock. With greater stream flow in the winter and spring months however, North Silver Creek sheets out across the 60-foot wide creek bed and turns the falls into a broad curtain of water, with part of the falls impacting on a twisting chute of basalt which then slides to join the more volumnous half of the creek in the plunge pool.

Middle North Falls is one of four waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park which features a trail which traverses behind the falling water. Unlike the other three, the trail leading behind Middle North Falls is a dead-end, constructed purely to allow access to additional views of the falls.

Which way do you take to get to the trees in the fog? The on the left edge of this picture or the right edge of the penultimate picture? Enjoy it.

Uttakleiv Beach which is home to some amazing rock formations and mountain backdrops making compositions just endless here. Having got my shot of the Dragons eye I moved on to explore a little more of the beach. A snowstorm came right our way, so we took shelter under a huge rock for about 40 mins or so until it passed.

The turquoise waters on these artic beaches are just incredible, that with the dark rocks and snow topped mountains just makes for an amazing scene to shoot

#March8

Not a ladybird which might have been a slightly more appropriate "supermodel" for International Women's Day because of its name, but an equally pretty Cryptocephalus bipunctatus. The whole supermodel thing is a relic of the past anyway, but unfortunately, we still haven't freed ourselves from questionable beauty "ideals" that often come across as beauty dictates. Social media and "influencers" don't make it any easier, especially not for the younger generation that is exposed (and exposes itself) to what one might call the "daily dose of beauty brainwash", recently taken to the next level with the all-new "beauty filters".

In Berlin (and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, one of Germany's Northern federal states), March 8 is an official holiday, but not (yet?) in the other 14 of our 16 federal states. So this Wednesday – where all shops, schools, etc. are closed (and the weather is too ghastly to go outside – winter made a snowy-wet, cold reappearance) – feels like a very quiet, lazy Sunday, and I have too much time for writing rants instead of simply letting you enjoy this adorable, brightly orange beetle, a member of the so-called "Fallkäfer" (Cryptocephalinae) subfamily of the leaf beetle family. The name "Fallkäfer" (a beetle that falls or drops) derives from their distinctive habit of dropping abruptly when disturbed. This image also is a true oldie, I've taken it back in June 2017 at the beautiful public park Britzer Garten. The focus is ever so slightly off and more on the plant than on the beetle itself, but I think it's still sharp enough in general.

Wishing all of my female Flickr friends a Happy International Women's Day!

Two new SAC pistols for TMD, which starts today. This pose is also a SAC pose for sale at the same time.

This pose was made for GB off-down Jacket, a collaborative work between SAC and GB. There were seven poses in the box. It's a good idea to get one with the gun.

I used to choose black for my guns, but recently I've been using silver because it looks better on SS<333

The scissor arches, which often visitors believe to be later, modern additions were constructed from 1338-48 as an engineering solution to a very real problem.

By 1313 a high tower topped by a lead covered wooden spire had been constructed but as the foundations were not stable large cracks began to appear in the tower structure.

In fear of a total collapse, several attempts at internal strengthening and buttressing were made, until the famous ‘scissor arches’ were put in place by master mason William Joy as a final solution.

Saasveld is a small village in Twente with less than 1,700 inhabitants. There is a church in the middle, around it some houses and an extensive outdoor area with farms. Mainly livestock and pig farming.

The cemetery contains 19th-century priestly graves. The church stands on the former castle grounds, which is accessed via a late 19th-century iron drawbridge over the fore. outside canal.

The Melike Hatun Mosque, which was built with Ottoman architecture in Ankara's Erbakan Square and where 7 thousand people can pray at the same time, covers an area of 3,600 square meters. Under the mosque, there is a thousand-seat congress hall, foyer area and parking lot.

The dome diameter of the mosque is 27 meters and its height is 43 meters. On the other hand, Marmara stone was used in the cladding of 4 minarets, each of which is 72 meters. There are 16 marble inscriptions in the 8 meters 20 centimeters high copper realm on the main dome.

In the mosque, where wooden and nailless kündekari art is used, there are gold leaf, mother-of-pearl, vineyard and ivory engraved inscriptions on the entrance doors.

It requires relatively deep, oligotrophic, acidic bog pools with considerable rafts of Sphagnum at the edges in which to breed.

Larvae also occur among waterlogged Sphagnum in depressions devoid of standing water.

The larvae live within the matrix of submerged and floating sphagnum and are confined to waters without fish. Away from its aquatic habitat it also requires scrub or woodland, which provides important roosting and feeding sites.

Laika went on a hike around Garrison, NY which is 1.5 hour away from New York City. It's a relatively easy trail and Laika enjoyed running back and forth on the trail because her humans are not walking fast enough. Here she is posing by a small bridge waiting for her humans to catch up.

Just two rings which I've pieced together for the photo. Actually three rings, because the plain golden one consists of two combined rings, kind of a double ring. The other ring with those tiny droplets / beads going all around is made of silver. I like to use both together, so I photographed them together, placed onto the silver side of a gold and silver coated piece of cardboard which once was used in a food wrapping. This is an image taken last night, but apparently I had too much time today, because I still tried a few focus stacks with different light and with the rings on top of a glossy black tile, but liked none in the end. So back to yesterday's image which I've processed in DXO PhotoLab 4 (sharpness, micro contrast and denoising with Deep Prime only), then in Analog Efex for the vignette and a very subtle matte look, and finally in Luminar AI, where I'd enhanced a few details (in the painting mask), added a very subtle glow, and slightly brightened the lower part of the silver ring with the dodge and burn tool.

One shot which I had forgotten to upload of the November 2016 supermoon rising behind Glastonbury Tor. This was the closest the full moon had been to earth since 1948. It rapidly vanished behind the thick clouds, but not before silhouetting the people on top of the hill.

... which is the local name given to a rough area of slightly marshy, overgrown land.

Another one from our river bend spot, where Pips stalks the sunbaking water dragons further down the steep emankment at water's edge while far above in the towering old gums, the birdlife chatters on.

This higher ground is no longer left undisturbed to give me the joy of these little golden dazzlers in late afternoon.

Old fella fishermen are often there now, digging away on the hunt for enormous worms, leaving large pockets of uneven, bare and messy soil which turns to bog from the rain and tempts me to trip and fall over in it as I wander about with attention on the camera.

Nearly had a few woopsies ;\

The rest of it is now kept mown by local council at regular intervals, so I'm glad I snapped plenty of these last September.

Another reminder to take those pics when we see something we like - the same chance may not come 'round again.

Besides the watermark experiment, still sooc.

Love the colour combo's in this one, the gold against the grey.

Mother Nature is so clever..

Enjoy your weekend, my friends x
