... I only see one way out

You got to cry without weeping

Talk without speaking

Scream without raising your voice

You know I took the poison

From the poison stream

Then I floated out of here ...

Where in the World?

Take a guess ;D

Where am I?

When I worked in Germany not so long ago, I had the chance to go around everywhere and had taken lots of photos. On most weekends, I would be in different cities, in different countries. Follow my travels and find out where the heck I was on a particular trip.

Guess the City!

First clue:

When you're traveling in this city, you'll find plenty of countrysides like orchards, pastures and forests.

Its population is predominantly Roman Catholic.

Concord Covered Bridge

Cobb County (Smyrna), Georgia, USA.

(Concord Road at Covered Bridge Road)

14 June 2018.

â–¶ More photos: here.

*****************

â–¶ "Concord Bridge is 131.7 feet long and 16 feet wide, extending over the Nickajack Creek. Built in 1872, the bridge remains open to traffic. There is a historical marker at the bridge.

An old railroad bed in the Concord Covered Bridge Historic Area, which includes a few bridges, has been converted to a dedicated bike trail as part of the PATH Foundation's Silver Comet Trail. Even the bridges along the nearby East-West Connector have been given a timber motif.

This historic area also has remnants from Ruff's Mill, the scene of a Civil War battle. Ruins of the dam are still upstream of the bridge as well as parts of the grist mill. The miller's house is still a residence.

Though historically it has the highest traffic count of all the covered bridges in the state combined, the count has diminished with the completion of the East-West Connector. Nonetheless, repairs were expedited and completed ahead of schedule to get this bridge back in service as soon as possible. Note: Fast and high traffic makes a visit to this bridge dangerous.

This bridge originally consisted of only two spans, each a queen-post truss with steel (or iron) tension rods. The center abutment, as can be seen in the photo of the steel beams above, seems to have been widened from a previous bridge using the same pier.

In the 1950s, steel beams were added to support the bridge and additional concrete piers were added. There is also a fourth all-steel support which can be seen in the downstream view."

... as we are thousands of years too late. Scientists believe that during the ice age, catastrophic flooding sent rampaging waters through here and over its 400-foot rockface, thereby creating what was thought to be the greatest waterfall (about ten times the size of Niagara). Death House

Decatur (813 Sycamore Street), Georgia, USA.

4 April 2019.

â–¶ Named NOT for a gruesome past but after the infelicitous surname of the family that originally lived there, in the latter 19th-century.

**************

â–¶ Sycamore Street in Decatur, Georgia, was originally called Covington Road. It was a stagecoach route to Augusta through Covington, Madison, and Eatonton. Now, it contains some of the largest homes in Decatur, including the ominously named Death House. In the 1970s, the house was moved from 719 to 813 Sycamore Street for the construction of MARTA. It now stands directly next to the Avondale MARTA station and just east of Sycamore Park (in which it originally stood).

â–¶ "When Dr. Chester Morse of Massachusetts and Eugenia Slack Morse of Decatur first moved to this wooded land in 1946, Scott Boulevard was a dirt road and their property, an old farm site, was a honeysuckle jungle. In 2002, they arranged to have their Decatur home and its surrounding seven acres permanently preserved from development, so future generations could experience and enjoy their wooded estate. Woodlands Garden is now a 501c3 nonprofit showcasing plants and trees native to the north Georgia Piedmont."
