All Saints, Wetheringsett

Mid Suffolk Railway early evening

Wetheringsett, spent 12hr day here with Timeline Events shooting images all day and into late evening under flood lighting..

Built in Belgium at Leige in 1906, this 0-4-0 loco has a vertical boiler, not the usual horizontal boiler on a conventional loco. The main advantage of this arrangement is its rapid steaming from cold, in around 1 hour, making them very useful in industrial shunting locations.

The loco has recently been fitted with vacuum braking equipment, making it possible to haul passenger coaching stock on this line.

The last surviving Y7 locomotives in the country and both here on the Mid Suffolk Railway, for a few short weeks.

LNER 985 is on long term loan from the North Norfolk Railway, whilst NER liveried 1310 is visiting for a few short weeks from the Middleton Railway at Leeds.

The first time in very many years that a pair of Y7s have been seen together.

Project 52 - Week 36 (04/09 - 10/09)

Just returned to steam at the North Norfolk Railway, Hudswell-Clarke 'Whissington' steams into Brockford and Wetheringsett Station at the Mid Suffolk Railway. On the rear is Beyer-Peakcock no. 1827, which would be returning to its home at the Foxfield Railway this evening.

Only 5.25 inch gauge, with a full sized wagon behind this model.

Extremely rare use of a Scania N230UD/Optare Olympus on Debenham High School contract 303 today.

Wissington is currently the ‘Middy’s’ resident locomotive and is on long term hire to the railway until January 2015. The engine was successfully run-in at the MSLR following completion of its restoration in 2012. Wissington was the star guest at our Light Railway Gala that year as it hauled its first revenue-earning trains in preservation. It is a very similar engine to our own No. 4 and as such will give a taste of things to come in future years.

Wissington spent its life at the British Sugar factory in the village of the same name and was the last working steam locomotive in East Anglia. This makes it an important part of the region’s heritage. It is owned by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society, based at the North Norfolk Railway. www.mslr.org.uk/rolling-stock/steam/

Looking superb in lovely early August late afternoon sunshine, in this shot the Eastern Transport Collection’s former Eastern Counties ECW coach bodied Bristol MW5G type LS789 is captured at Brockford & Wetheringsett Station just prior to heading home after taking part in the Mid Suffolk Light Railway’s Bus Day.

Having been the first entrant to arrive, very much a case of FILO as Nick Webster’s now unique former Hutchings & Cornelius Harrington bodied Dennis Lancet UF type YYB 118 is the last to depart from Brockford & Wetheringsett Station after taking part in the Mid Suffolk Light Railway’s Bus Day.

The first time I had visited the welcoming “Middy” and it seemed a good day was had by all, especially the chance to meet up with friends, both old and new.

We had stopped to look at the village sign opposite, then turned round and saw this amazing building. It's quite a small village, strung out along a rural road, so it's surprising that it's still got a post office. (I'm assuming it's still running, there were notices in the window. It was Sunday when we visited, so obviously not open then.) It must be a very old building, look at the lovely wonkiness of the door. And there's some more pargetting around the bay window.

Seen during our recent weekend in Suffolk.

Another very rare outing of Ipswich Buses Dennis Lance 162 on Debenham High School Contract 303, in place of the usual Volvo Olympian, due to a fallen tree on the route.

A grand late medieval church in a quiet village not far from the A140. The Perpendicular windows and the walls of glass of the clerestory fill it full of light.

I spent a day with Timeline Events on the Mid Suffolk Railway at Wetheringsett.

Had a day out with Timeline Events at the Mid Suffolk Railway. Great to get some shots that you can only do on an orgaised shoot with re-enactors.

Here we see former Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Services ECW bodied Bristol K5G type - AJN 825 as it pulls into Brockford & Wetheringsett Station yard while taking part in the Mid Suffolk Light Railway’s Bus Day.
