My theme for 2016 is: 52 months in a year.

I took this photo in June of 2009.

Well, and after the creation of the island, people came to it and started building houses and villages with their churches.

The sea was their friend, but at the same time their enemy because on the one hand they provided a source of income through fishing, but on the other hand the sea had its terrible quirks and she could rage like a raging rage and devourded houses, villages in short everything what got in her way and therefore also people.

And in order to avoid the seething desolation of the sea, dikes were always built higher, higher and higher, so that you no longer see the villages from the sea side, except for a small part of the church tower........

The scissor arches, which often visitors believe to be later, modern additions were constructed from 1338-48 as an engineering solution to a very real problem.

By 1313 a high tower topped by a lead covered wooden spire had been constructed but as the foundations were not stable large cracks began to appear in the tower structure.

In fear of a total collapse, several attempts at internal strengthening and buttressing were made, until the famous ‘scissor arches’ were put in place by master mason William Joy as a final solution.

Nothing like being photo bombed by a Canada Goose Gosling!!

Well, after we all hopefully received rich presents yesterday and most likely ate too much, I continued my mental review of the year.

In early spring I was in Bad Elster in Vogtland for three weeks for a cure. I used my free time there to explore the area.

One of the most beautiful places I discovered was here, the Trieb valley near the Pöhl dam. Another place I'll definitely want to visit again once I'm around.

Bleibt gesund!

Tip of a glass vase

Actually, I had no idea about that today. Husband and daughter Silke, that's why there's no picture of them, both sick. She caught a bad cold.

A coincidence that my view fell on a small spherical glass vase, which ends in a raised triangle at the opening. Two photos, one slightly edited in Luminar, i.e. the rear rounding of the vase a little bit reinforced, finished. I never had such an uncomplicated and fast theme ready for Macro Monday.

Dear friends, thank you for your visit, comment and maybe a star. Stay well!

Restez bien !

Vicars' Close, in Wells, Somerset, is claimed to be the oldest purely residential street with original buildings surviving intact in Europe. This mid-14th century street has 27 properties (originally 44), built for Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury, a chapel and library at the north end, and a hall at the south end, over an arched gate. It is connected at its southern end to Wells Cathedral by way of a walkway over Chain Gate.

The Close is about 460 feet (140 m) long, and paved with setts (granite blocks). Its width is tapered by 10 feet (3.0 m) to make it look longer when viewed from here at the main entrance nearest the Cathedral.

"...Stay, don't leave me

The stars can't for your sign

Don't signal now

There's nothing I can say

There's nothing we can do now

There's nothing I can say

There's nothing we can do now

Goodnight, travel well"

Happy Travel Thursday, everyone!

Seen from my garage window. I left a lot of my fallen apples on the ground this year and have had several grateful deer enjoying them.

Another shot from my recent trip to Yorkshire. There are great views "on the tops" - up the hills and across the hilltop farmland and moors. That's Stoodley Pike in the distance, a memorial celebrating Napoleon's defeat in 1814.

The river I posted shots of is in the valley bottom right, and the start of the town of Hebden Bridge can be seen in the middle.

Thanks for looking. Have a great weekend!

Montezuma Well, a detached unit of Montezuma Castle National Monument, is a natural limestone sinkhole near the town of Lake Montezuma, Arizona, through which some 1,500,000 US gallons of water emerge each day from an underground spring. It is located about 11 miles northeast of Montezuma Castle. Wikipedia

How deep;

Measurements made on previous dives showed the west vent as deep 82 feet (137 feet overall) and the east vent at 40 feet (95 feet overall). The National Park Service dive team also lowered a camera some 40 feet into the west vent and discovered it was a continual column of fluidized sand for the entire depth.Sep 28, 2021

Red fox kits near their den. These adorable red fox kits will be a bit difficult to photograph because the den is in a really bushy area. The good thing is mama fox chose a very safe area for them because they are so well hidden!

One from this day three years ago.

I liked the yellow barrels in the forefront, the colour was striking. Beautiful Wells harbour stretches behind, with a yacht, birds and marshes. The barrels were a temporary fence - gone next time I was there. HFF!

I can't breathe, I'm waiting for the exhale

Toss my pain with my wishes in a wishing well

Still no luck, but oh, well

I still try even though I know I'm gon' fail

Stress on my shoulders like an anvil

Perky got me itching like an anthill

Drugs killing me softly, Lauryn Hill

Sometimes I don't know how to feel

Ring-ring, phone call from depression

You used my past and my memories as a weapon

On the other line, I talk to addiction, huh

Speaking of the devil, all the drugs, I miss them

This can't be real, is it fiction?

Somethin' feels broke, need to fix it

I cry out for help, do they listen?

I'ma be alone until it's finished

This is the part where I tell you I'm fine

But I'm lying, I just don't want you to worry

This is the part where I take all my feelings and hide 'em

'Cause I don't want nobody to hurt me

Well my friends WELCOME to 2018 .A year of peace, joy and happiness.

A year made for manifestation and wishes fullfield but also for love, tolerance and kindness.

A year in which for the sake of humanity and of our own happiness we need to remember how to build bridges, unions and relationships instead of breaking them how we did last year.

A year thatt I know it can make all our dreams come true and the world a better place, if we can only stick together in a place of love and positivity and not allow personal fears, frustrations and failures to turn us one against each other.

A year in which I know we can really find the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change what can be changed and the wisdom to know the difference if we understand the importance of it.

A year that I know it can become the best one ever no matter the cicumstances if we can only decide that it will be so and hold this decision in our hearths with love and faith all through our daily ups and downs.

Happy New Year!!! my friends.

And much peace&love to

you all!

The church is now a war memorial and is dedicated to one of the three Patrons of Perugia .It was a 2 storey church ,the second of which was demolished to allow the construction of the Rocca Paolina in 1540.

This is the ‘working’ part of Wells-Next-The Sea. Less busy than the harbour, it’s a peaceful spot. The estuary is bathing in the late afternoon sunshine. This is one of the first photographs I took with the new lens for the Canon. The lens still feels like a stranger and I am in the early stages of building a relationship with it.

(A=Andreas, RA=Rafaela)...

While I was risking life and limb slipping and sliding down a dirt bank to get a shot at Oxbow Bend, the Mrs. pointed her camera out the car window and captured this shot at Grand Tetons National Park. ..... Life is Good ;-)

Grand Teton National Park is a United States National Park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (480 sq. mi; 130,000 ha; 1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. It is only 10 miles (16 km) south of Yellowstone National Park, to which it is connected by the National Park Service-managed John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Along with surrounding National Forests, these three protected areas constitute the almost 18,000,000-acre (7,300,000 ha) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the largest intact mid-latitude temperate ecosystems in the world.

Human history of the Grand Teton region dates back at least 11,000 years, when the first nomadic hunter-gatherer Paleo-Indians began migrating into the region during warmer months pursuing food and supplies. In the early 19th century, the first White explorers encountered the eastern Shoshone natives. Between 1810 and 1840, the region attracted fur trading companies that vied for control of the lucrative beaver pelt trade. U.S. Government expeditions to the region commenced in the mid-19th century as an offshoot of exploration in Yellowstone, with the first permanent white settlers in Jackson Hole arriving in the 1880s.

Efforts to preserve the region as a national park commenced in the late 19th century, and in 1929 Grand Teton National Park was established, protecting the major peaks of the Teton Range. The valley of Jackson Hole remained in private ownership until the 1930s, when conservationists led by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began purchasing land in Jackson Hole to be added to the existing national park. Against public opinion and with repeated Congressional efforts to repeal the measures, much of Jackson Hole was set aside for protection as Jackson Hole National Monument in 1943. The monument was abolished in 1950 and most of the monument land was added to Grand Teton National Park.

Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French-speaking trappers—les trois tétons (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second-highest summit in the range. The park has numerous lakes, including 15-mile-long (24 km) Jackson Lake as well as streams of varying length and the upper main stem of the Snake River. Though in a state of recession, a dozen small glaciers persist at the higher elevations near the highest peaks in the range. Some of the rocks in the park are the oldest found in any U.S. National Park and have been dated at nearly 2.7 billion years.

Shot with a Contixo F24 Pro. The gimbal is a little off but it handles very well. Seeing that this is first effort in drone footage, eventually I will update to a much higher grade drone where the gimbal is a little stronger, but I am very proud of how this turned out. I do have some video footage, and yes, it’s a little sloppy, but I’m positive that in time that will no longer be an issue. Again, I’m new at this, so bear with me!

I welcome any feedback on this, keep it positive, that’s all I ask!😎

The Winskill Stones Nature Reserve lies above the village of Stainforth. It is home to an amazing section of limestone pavement.

The well-known gardener Geoff Hamilton was a great supporter of the campaign to stop people buying limestone pavement to make rockeries from. When he died, this important area of limestone pavement in the National Park was bought by Plantlife International and the reserve dedicated to his memory.

Read more about the reserve on the Plantlife website.

BONNE FIN DE SEMAINE / HAPPY WEEKEND

Calliste à tête verte / Green-headed tanager / Tangara seledon

The green-headed tanager is a bird found in the Atlantic forest in south-eastern Brazil, far eastern Paraguay, and far north-eastern Argentina. As other members of the genus Tangara, it is a small colorful bird, measuring an average of 13.5 centimeters (5.3 in). While essentially a bird of humid forests, it is also common in orchards and parks,[2] where it moves through the canopy, making itself inconspicuous, as its apparently flashy blue-green coloration camouflages it well amongst the foliage.

The three ponds at Waggoners Wells in East Hampshire are popular as a cool shady retreat in summer and for the spectacular yellows and golds of the beech trees in autumn..

This lady elk had plenty to eat during the summer of '22. That's a good thing as it increases her odds of surviving the lean times ahead through winter in the Rocky Mountains.

This shot was made during the elk rut in Rocky Mountain National Park. A bull and his harem had just crossed the open meadow and this cow was bringing up the rear.
