White storks are abundant throughout Extremadura in western Spain. Their nests may weigh from 200 to 300 kilos.

It is easy to recognize because it is a plumage duck completely white, with a yellow or orange beak, and legs that are orange. His neck is thick and his head is round. It has a rectangular shaped body when viewed from the side. It has a body that measures in the 65 cm, a wingspan in 140 cm, and weighs between 2.5 and 3.5 kilograms when adult.

The female and the male are identical. We can differentiate the male who is larger than the female, and has the tail very straight, while it has the feathers of the tail at the end curved. Like the other species, it has a broad, flat bill with a round tip.

Taken in Barnes's Grove, Buckinghamshire, a tree seems to be caught up with a sapling, almost handing it a large bunch of leaves. Strangely, this scene wasn't there the following week, the bunch of leaves mysteriously vanishing!

What is Flyday without a fly? Just boring old Friday I suppose!

Syrphid Flies are beneficial pollinators, often confused with bees and hornets. These beauties are completely harmless, and, if you look closely, their large round eyes and short antennae are quick indications that these are neither bees nor hornets, Also, unlike their look-a-likes, can hover whenever they feel inclined. They pollinate and lay eggs on our flowering plants, when their larvae hatch, they are voratious consumers of aphids. Let's hear it for our Syrphid buddies!

Image was taken in the early morning light in the Mala Mala Game Reserve. Our first game drive at Mala Mala took us close to a herd of about 200 cape buffalo. The driver however was ever vigil to get us out of there if the temperament of the herd ever changed.

The African buffalo or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large Sub-Saharan African bovine. Syncerus caffer caffer, the Cape buffalo, is the typical subspecies found in South and East Africa. The adult buffalo's horns are its characteristic feature: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head referred to as a "boss".

Cape Buffalo are suspected to kill around 200 people every year. They typically will charge and gore their victims and have been known to trample people as well. When you see Cape Buffalo roaming in Africa, they're usually not alone and an injured cape buffalo is even more dangerous and unpredictable than a healthy one.

The African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), also known as the African savanna elephant, is the largest living terrestrial animal with bulls reaching a shoulder height of up to 4 m (13 ft). Both sexes have tusks, which erupt when they are 1–3 years old and grow throughout life.

It is distributed across 37 African countries and inhabits forests, grasslands and woodlands, wetlands and agricultural land. It is a social mammal, traveling in herds composed of cows and their offspring. Adult bulls usually live alone or in small bachelor groups. It is a herbivore, feeding on grasses, creepers, herbs, leaves and bark.

Since 2004, it has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. It is threatened foremost by habitat destruction, and in parts of its range also by poaching for meat and ivory.

They can weigh 7 t (7.7 short tons). The heaviest male on record weighed 10.4 t (11.5 short tons) and was shot in 1974 in Angola. Females are much smaller at about 2.2–2.6 m (7.2–8.5 ft) tall at the shoulder and up to 4 t (4.4 short tons) in weight. – Wikipedia

The Victoria Crowned Pigeon (Goura victoria) is the largest species of pigeon, native to the lowland and swamp forests of Northern New Guinea and its neighboring islands. It is known for its striking appearance, featuring vivid blue and purple feathers, a maroon breast, and elegant lace-like crests on its head. These pigeons prefer moist, low-lying areas near rivers and wetlands, and they are somewhat social, often living in small groups of 2-10 individuals. Named in honor of Queen Victoria, they are recognized for their unique beauty and size, weighing up to 7 pounds and measuring over 2 feet in length.

Midshipman Fish belong to the genus Porichthys of toadfishes. They are distinguished by having photophores (which they use to attract prey and after which they are named, reminding some of a naval uniform's buttons) and four lateral lines. Typical midshipman fishes, such as the plainfin midshipman (Porichthys notatus), are nocturnal and bury themselves in sand or mud in the intertidal zone during the day. At night they float just above the seabed. Some species have venomous dorsal spines and are capable of inflicting serious injuries if handled.

Each spring, they emerge from the depths of the Pacific Ocean to breed on the beach. They overwhelm the beach at low tide, wedge themselves beneath rocks and excavate a nest in the rocks and sand.

The max length recorded is 38 centimeters (about 15 inches); and Type I males usually weigh in around . 350 grams (or just over 3/4 of a pound)

Weighing in at less than 6 grams, the goldcrest is Europe's smallest bird. Despite its size, its beautiful golden crown might well have earned it the title of 'King of the Birds' in European folklore. Its Latin name, Regulus regulus, also refers to its crown and means 'petty king' or 'prince'.

A large raptor around 55-70 cms tall and weighing around 1.5 - 2.4 kg and found throughout the year in India. They are probably the smallest of the 9 species of vultures found in India. The birds are very distinctive and easily recognizable unlike some of the other vultures which are confusing to id.

This one is an adult with the full white plumage and yellowish face and beak. Immatures tend to be totally brown with a greyish face. The birds are often seen around carcass dumpyards or in the deserts where dead cattle / animals are lying rotten. In our Rajasthan trip last week, we sighted 100+ of them all around the state - they are quite common there. In fact, Rajasthan has 7 of the 9 vultures found in India. Like most vultures, this is quite shy of people, but many a time, we found very close to the nomad settlements perched on the poles or walking around on the ground.

Thanks in advance for your lovely feedback and views - much appreciated.

The greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is a woodland antelope found throughout eastern and southern Africa. Despite occupying such widespread territory, they are sparsely populated in most areas, due to a declining habitat, deforestation and poaching. The greater kudu is one of two species commonly known as kudu, the other being the lesser kudu.

One of the tallest and longest-horned antelopes, the greater kudu can weigh up to 600 pounds with horns up to 6 feet in length. The greater kudu is found throughout eastern and southern Africa, in mixed woodlands, bushlands, hills and mountains. It feeds on leaves, flowers and fruits and can live up to 8 years in the wild.

The greater kudu is characterized by its narrow body, long legs, large ears and brown coat with white vertical torso stripes. Both the greater kudu and the lesser kudu have distinctive stripes and spots covering their bodies, and males have fringe under their chins and impressive spiral horns.-Wikipedia

::: Hurt for me · SYML :::

Oh, no

Tonight I find it hard to swallow

The bed is made and I feel hollow

My friends suggest that I should take it slow

I took it slow

I sweat it out, I'm not okay, and I'm shaking on the floor

I lie awake and I count the days and I wait beside the door

For love

I only want you next to me

Sweet love

How long before you hurt for me, hurt for me?

Do you hurt for me?

Black out

The night before inside of my mouth

Too much, it's what I like to do now

My mind explodes and I can't make it out

I'm falling down

I see your face and blurry shades and I reach out for your hand

All your ways, I can't explain but I want to understand

My love

I only want you next to me

Sweet love

How long before you hurt for me?

Do you hurt for me?

I sedate my mind with hope of your return

Just enough to weigh me down

I can fake my heart and I love to watch it burn

But it knows you ain't around

My love

I only want you next to me

Sweet love

How long before you hurt for, hurt for me?

Will you hurt for me?

# There are no bones in an elephant’s trunk, which is a fusion of its nose and upper lip.

# The trunk can grow to about 6 feet (1,8 M) long and can weigh 300 pounds (136 Kg). Using at least 40,000 different muscles, an elephant can lift over 700 pounds (318 Kg) with its trunk.

# Elephants can pull up to two gallons (7.5 L) of water into their trunks through their nostrils at a single time.

# Elephants can also use their trunks as snorkels, and breathe through them while the rest of their body is submerged.

# Asian elephants have a single finger like appendage on the end of the trunks for grasping, while African elephants have two. The latter can actually grasp things by pinching them, while the former curls the tip of its trunk around them.

# Elephants have a keener sense of smell than even a bloodhound with millions of receptor cells in their nasal cavities; they can even smell water from miles away.

If my previous post is Anubis, then this has to be Ammit, the guardian demon presiding over the weighing of the heart of the deceased with the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth. The feather of Ma'at symbolized the balance, and truthfulness needed to be present during one's lifetime.

If the heart was heavier than the feather of Ma'at, the deceased was deemed impure. Ammit would devour their heart, leaving the deceased without a soul. Ancient Egyptians believed the soul would become restless forever, dying a second death. Instead of living in Aaru, the soulless individual would be stuck in Duat. (Source: Wikipedia)
