Another one from the archives. Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire is famous for its Stilton cheese and its pork pies, but it also has a fabulous street market dating back to before the Domesday Book. Melton has been a market town for over 1,000 years. Recorded as Leicestershire's only market in the 1086 Domesday Survey, it is the third oldest market in England. Tuesday has been market day since royal approval was given in 1324. My wife, Judy, looks as though she's intent on buying some flowers.

At the weekly Hamar market in Turmi, in the Omo Valley, Ethiopia.
The Hamar are an Omotic community inhabiting southwestern Ethiopia. They live in Hamer woreda (district), a fertile part of the Omo River valley, in the Debub Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR). They are largely pastoralists, so their culture places a high value on cattle.
Bonda tribal women stopping for a chat on their way to the weekly Onukadelli market. The Bonda are known for their aggressive behaviour but as you can see they can also be very friendly, especially when they haven't been drinking their favourite tipple, homemade alcohol made from the Mahuli flower.
The next day we drove to the city of Boumaine. In the early morning we had a reststop in a little town called Tinejdad . There was a local market ... such a colorful place to stroll around and to buy some fruit before we moved on.

A Dongoria woman at the Chatikona weekly market in SW Orissa. Kondh means 'inhabitants of the hills'. They call themselves 'Dongran Kuan' or 'Drili Kuan'. Dongoria women use 2 pieces of cloth (Kapda-Ganda), each 3-4 feet in length and one and a half feet in width. The first is wrapped round the waist with a knot in the front. The second piece covers the upper part of the body like an apron. The women have very distinctive hairstyles and are very fond of beautifying themselves with a variety of ornaments.
At the Onukadelli weekly tribal market in the SW of Orissa. One of the features of this tribe is the beaded necklaces and headwear that the women wear.
An Austro-Asiatic race who call themselves Remo or Human being ; lives in the forested Eastern Ghat hills of Malkangiri / Koraput region of Orissa. I found them wonderful, warm and friendly though they are famous for their short temper and for their affinity to use Bow & Arrow at the slightest provocation.
