Weekly Chores

Our trash gets picked up on Tuesdays by Best Waste and one of Dominic’s chores is to take the trash and recycling bins to the curb Monday nights. He takes Nana’s to the curb too. Sometimes he needs a reminder (well, most of the time to be honest) but he always does it with a smile on his face. Sometimes he’ll grab all the inside trash and recycling as well which means the world to me. Somehow I’m the only one in the whole family who notices a trash can is full and voluntarily empties it. I have magic powers apparently! ::snicker::

Came across this abandoned little school house just a little west of White Pines State Park near Oregon, IL. Just had to stop and take a picture of it with the late afternnon sun casting it's long shadows across the rural landscape.

This is an HDR image saved (for upload to flickr) as a .PNG format. Since flickr does not support the display of EXIF in .PNG files, the EXIF metadata would not show. Being that I wanted to save this image in 16 bit color and flickr does not support either .psd or .tif formats, I saved as a .PNG (which does support 16 bit color). This (or I should say "these" - 3 exposures) were taken using a Canon EOS 7D at a focal length of 35mm. I suppose the other EXIF data is irrelevant.

BTW - I am not including this EXIF data in order to sound "professional", (because I certainly am not) but merely to provide some info in case anyone might be interested. * Also, those little flecks of clouds in the sky are not something I created........ this is exactly how they appeared when the picture was taken.

My first ever action set. Taken me ages, but getting the hang of creating sets now.

AAW Weekly Challenge: Juxtaposition

This is Kwinana Beach, just south of Perth. It's a nice public beach that is surrounded on all sides by heavy industry. I was hoping to show the juxtaposition between nature and industry. This photo shows a father and daughter fishing on rocks with a big ship being loaded with grain in the background. I used an ND filter to allow a slightly longer shutter speed - I love the effect on the waves in the foreground, but it's a bit of a shame that there is some motion blur on the people. I took a few frames which are sharper, but in the end I think this one was the better photo overall.

I had one passenger on my van, when I pulled over, jumped out and walked over to where i could get a clear view of this, .... Unfortunately she was a nut who kept screaming at me to get back on board, I was gonna get charged, etc., Yatta, Yatta ... I knew these Giants were too absorbed in their passionate activities to worry about little me. But I did worry that with her shrill voice, she would attract their attention, and knowing that these Bears were probably quite hungry, after their long hibernation, I considered making an offer of her .... What difference would one missing tourist make ???

My first Bears this Spring, Wrestling match watched near Swede Johnson Creek, Yukon Territory, May 4.

This is a mother and 3 yr. old child ... It's powerful, but purely affectionate love-play ...

Shot for Active Assignment Weekly, theme "Window Shopping".

Shot on my way to the trein station, straight out of my phone.

MacBreak Weekly, with Leo Laporte, Merlin Mann, Scott Bourne, Alex Lindsay and Andy Ihnatko. Catch it on iTunes at: http://www.itunes.com/podcast?id=179237749 or at http://twit.tv/mbw

I'm not a bird photographer, so I was lucky to get any shots today. Suddenly I heard the swishing noise and this dense flock quickly passed me on the trail.

Active Assignment Weekly: Break the Rules

First I used dead/wilting flowers, and underexposed them. I also tried to break the rules of composition by placing the "heaviest" object at the top of the frame, making it look upside-down (it isn't). Hardest of all for me, this is straight out of the camera, no cropping or anything. Used a low power speedlight camera left, snooted to prevent spill.

Unfortunately, the big, intact rose is right at the junction of thirds lines. Apparently, I can't break that many rules.
