Active Assignment Weekly: Out of the blue

What it took: Cropped slightly on the right, blue filter.

I saw these sunglasses and the thought behind the photo was to take a selfie, but to merge me with the leaves a bit.

Shot for Active Assignment Weekly Feb 20-27 2017: Primary Colours

As a contrast to last week, take a photo that highlights vivid colours. Restriction: Ensure the the three primary colours Red, Blue and Yellow are in the photo. Dare: To ONLY have the three primary colours in the picture.

WIT: Zambian ladies tend to wear fairly bright coloured clothing although not always as bright as this. My colleague's daughter and niece were working for us at a conference we ran this weekend, and after I had driven them home, asked them what they had to wear in primary colours. This is what they came up with. SOOC

The dragon that you see in the picture is a new decoration installed on the ceiling at the ground floor of City Of Dreams, Macao. I captured the image with Iphone 4s, and then applied the filter “Blue Bayou” in PhotoToaster, and added bubbles to the picture with an app named Bubble World. It is so fun to play with. Hope you like it, too!

This burn pile is a familiar sight all over the Philippines. Even in the nice neighborhoods of Baguio this is a common way to dispose of trash. It adds to the diesel hanging thick in the air.

ASSIGNMENT

Never Land

DESCRIPTION

As a student, I loved to take walks with my camera and find new places to shoot. Often I’d find myself in places that I had never been before and never knew existed. It was both an adventure and a great way to improve my photography eye.

For this assignment go somewhere that you have never been before and just take pictures. It doesn’t have to be far or special. It can be a street you have never turned down, a house or apartment you have never visited or a town you have never been.

Here are a few ways to decide where to go:

Go to google maps, zoom appropriately and point with your mouse and go there, if you have never been there.

Invite yourself over to a friend’s house that you have never visited.

Step outside and walk in a direction until you find something new.

Of course, stay safe and avoid war zones, bad neighborhoods and disaster areas etc…

You are encouraged to bring back a story of adventure or some information about where you went.

Hopefully with 2 weekends, this assignment won’t be an imposition.

RESTRICTIONS

The photo should be relatively spontaneous. No extensive planning or setup. Use your own judgement. Or for those who have to have a rule no thinking for more than 5 minutes before taking the shot.

DARE

Include people in your image.

This was my first real photography "gig" except it was unpaid. The cowboy is my wife's friend's boyfriend. He is a country singer and needed portraits to hand out at his show. He brought his son with him to get some shots too.

I didn't take this for the assignment, but it fits because I had never been there before and the boy kinda reminded me of Peter Pan.

WIT: I really struggled with the lighting at this photoshoot (which is partially why I didn't charge). Either Cowboy Dave was lit and his background was super washed out, or sometimes the harsh sun cast really dark shadows on his face. Also, I was trying my nifty fifty for a soft background but at 1.8 I couldn't get my ISO low enough or shutter speed fast enough.

I ended up switching to my newly fixed 18-105 f/3.5-5.6 and used my also newly repaired strobe for fill light. I just hate using flash when I have sunlight (this was around 5-6 so evening sun, without many clouds).

PLEASE any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

I have almost all of my weekly orders on Mondays and this is also one of my weeklies. I like the movement in this arrangements and the textures as well. When I create arrangements I like to use as many textures as I can to add interest.

This is a new bulletin idea that we are going with. This is the outside primarily used to let the church know about our motto living life together. We also are a family church of every age. There is a perforated edge on the left that we are asking the attendees to fill out. Any thoughts. Had to use red and gold as they are the colors that the pastor's picked to keep everything looking uniform.

The Skogafoss arrives in Portland Harbor carrying containers for Eimskip Shipping Co out of Iceland. Eimskip has made Portland the US HQ for its container operation. Skogafoss replaced a smaller ship recently due to the increase in shipping volume. The terminal itself has tripled in size in just a few short years.

Tug meets the Skogafoss to help guide it through the shipping channel. The Casco Bay Lines ferry Wabanaki glide across the ship path.

Weekly Theme: Broken

Week 23

Taken June 10, 2017

Title: A Bleeding Heart is Broken

Notes: These flowers are often called "Broken Hearts". Whether that is appropriate or not I cannot say, but it was close enough for me to think they meet this week's theme. This blossom is one of my favorites and I was happy that there were some still in bloom this weekend at the Morris Arboretum. It was a gorgeous day and the arboretum was a sight for sore eyes :-).
