Week 42/52
The Fall and the Winter are never easy on me. They're the time when everything always seems to go wrong, when I go down the drain, when I slide into bed and don't have the will to come out until it's warm outside, again. That's a little of what this shot is about.
The dark seasons, as I call them, are isolating. The rain keeps you inside, the cold makes you get into a thousand pieces of clothing and you feel stuffed, constrained. There's none of that freedom from the Summer. There's no hope, no reason to wait for anything. For me, it's excruciating.
I'm trying to turn it around, though. I'm trying to enjoy the Fall, I'm getting excited about my trip to England in December, I'm actually enjoying making pies and jams and sweets. I'm trying to fight it. But at the same time, I feel like I have to fight off my demons — and this is how I do it. It's just so I don't wake up in the middle of the night, my chest clad in that anxiety that makes me want to scream; it's just so I don't let the darkness get the best of me and run away with my thoughts and my smile; it's just so I don't succumb to the coldness outside. Because that's all I ask for the months to come: that they allow me to keep my head above the surface.

hi there. i finally developed a roll of film :)
how's the pandemic treating you? i've been growing out my natural hair since the beginning. 9 months later, this virus is worse than when it started and i'm almost a brand new person. ;)
i have been very safe and remained healthy. i was tested last week after not feeling well for a few days, but it was only a cold. i was negative. however, i have spoken with many people who have not been so lucky.
be well. stay home. take care of yourself.
we will survive.

This week we are going to create a photograph based on free association. Your picture will be chained in a creative way to another picture in the group pool. How the two are connected is up to you.

So I'd taken this already but forgotton and have been getting behind in my shot a week!
A take on a common shot but wanting to use some natural light from the patio doors to cast a smooth diffuse shadow to one side too. Hope you like.
Shot on a Panasonic G3 converted for infrared photography, processed in Lightroom and Silver Efex.

I don't like this shot (at all) can't recognize myself here, I look kind of mean and arrogant.. and it's just a weird angle...
so if I find time to take pics on sunday I'll probably replace this....
Edit: wow.. didn't expect such a reaction, seems like that always happens when I say I don't like a shot... well I won't replace it now, as so many of you seem to like it =) thank you so much for your nice comments!

A feather from my collection. Not my best effort, but it was a busy week. Will try harder this week.
Please pardon this. I have finals that week, and was studying for ten hours a day. It was horrible. But they're done now!

Oh my god, this almost has 50 favorites, thank you so much! It's kinda growing on me, it makes me feel calm looking at it :3
home alone 48...make of it what you will ;-)
This weeks message is "Go With the Flow"
A Taoist story tells of an old man who accidentally fell into the river rapids leading to a high and dangerous waterfall. Onlookers feared for his life. Miraculously, he came out alive and unharmed downstream at the bottom of the falls. People asked him how he managed to survive. "I accommodated myself to the water, not the water to me. Without thinking, I allowed myself to be shaped by it. Plunging into the swirl, I came out with the swirl. This is how I survived."
I had a different plan for this weeks photo, and it did not work out. I had this idea last night, and it also did not come out as planned. I became so frustrated with the details of the photo, and my inability to achieve the results I wanted, that i don't even remember what point i was trying to make. So, I begrudgingly accepted what I had and posted it. After sleeping on it the message became clear.
We cannot always control the events of our lives. even the little details tend to go awry. A zipper breaks, the road is closed, they are out of your flavor of ice cream, or you photo is not what you wanted. It is by accepting what comes our way, and going with it, that we will reach our destination.
So, I am not thrilled with the photo, but I get the message, and that is good.
Lesson 2
When all else fails, laugh at yourself!

For the Nighttime Long Exposure theme at 52 weeks in 2018.
Well, it rained most of the week and all of the weekend so my plans for an outdoor shot didn't work. Hope this is acceptable.

Me at (almost) 36 weeks pregnant. I think you can see why my back has been killing me! Still have about 4 weeks to go...
it's day five already!
thank you for all the fantastic amounts of inspiration this week, polaroid people! :)
(if for some reason you haven't been introduced to the amazingness that is 'roid week.. here ya go.)
Refraction is such a cool theme and it brings back memories of this group. My first ever Explore was from a refraction theme for this group in 2013 and it’s still my profile pic.
Second Life: 52 Week Challenge 2025 Not the most exciting picture but joy for me is home, living in the northern part of the Appalachian mountains in the states the mountain and forests makes me happiest.
On a trip out today with the wife and happened upon this old abandoned barn on the side of the road near Daventry, Northamptonshire and just had to take a look. I took a few shots but this is one of the favourites and meets week 17's theme in my photo a week challenge.
I love the geometry of the beams and rafters which practically scream triangles, rectangles and probably even parallelograms everywhere. Certainly a testament to the workmanship given this roof is still standing when some of the brick walls have holes you could walk through! And no, I don't mean doors LOL
Shot on a Panasonic G3 converted for infrared photography, processed in Lightroom and Silver Efex.
I am a bit late with this one. Hand held, and practicing panos. I stitched 3 photos in the online I.C.E program. I have a new computer so it has been a test of my brain power to work out how to do everything again as things have changed a great deal in 8 years since I bought my last computer! Taken on our drive to visit a friend recently. I did not quite have the photo flow in line, so the stitching program has cut off more of the pano I would have liked, however, what a great reminder this challenge has been to practice it more often. It is odd how the program also puts in random bits, like a shadow, so you have to be vigilant in scanning the finished photo and adjust accordingly.

As long as there are bluebirds , there will be miracles and a way to find happiness

After a period of dark skies, rain and snow ....these bluebirds were enjoying the warm sunlight and perfect blue sky of a winter afternoon . Seen last week ....on a hill near my home .

What I do every single day of the week, is go for a walk. Walking is healthy, we sit around too much so I walk and I love it.
Early mornings are the best !

[ 02 / 52 Weeks - 09 - 15 january ]
This week subject: Nature.
Metamorphosis.
This shot has NOT a realistic aim.
I'm now 29 weeks pregnant.... where has the time gone?
My tummy is expanding more than I ever thought it could... I actually have a baby in there! I sometimes forget how real it is!
I love being pregnant... I reckon I'm going to miss my bump....
Had a pretty good photog day......which always makes me happy. I have so many to look through and so I'm sure I'll be uploading more photos throughout the week.
I took the time today to lay out under the sun...and just enjoy the nature around me. The sky has been SO blue here in the Keys lately. I mean BLUE! It's gorgeous.
A little update on my continuing Anxiety situation. I had another visit with my doc who decided that he would like to try me on Buspar next. Though I'm still apprehensive about it, I will give it a shot. I am also starting counseling this week as well as the woman's bible study from my church. I am so excited about these things and look forward to seeing how this will help me. The funny thing is....I"m already feeling a difference in myself, just making these choices to find help in various avenues.
For the first time in a while....I am looking forward to the future. THough I know that there will be some challenges ahead, I'm really ready to take them as they come.
Plus I have my most awesome flickr friends to help me out when I need it!
xoxoxoxo
much luv!
Not really what I wanted to do for Long Exposure, but the weather, work and lack of time in general have conspired against me.
Week #44 Long Exposure
HSS!
Colors manipulated, plus I replaced a Northern Shoveler duck with this Cormorant, which I was able to photograph a few minutes later - but in a less desirable location :)
