The Devil’s Thumb Trail, 16km out-and-back trail starting from Lake Louise, Alberta. It is considered a challenging trail. It is a captivating hiking trail that offers an exhilarating adventure. This trail begins from Lake Louise, in a dense forest. As it ascends, the trail gradually steepens, winding through a mix of rocky outcrops and lush undergrowth.
The higher you climb, the more dramatic the scenery becomes. As approaching the summit, the trail becomes more challenging, with steep sections and rocky terrain. However, the view of Devil’s Thumb itself awaits. The iconic peak, with its striking shape and formidable presence, stands majestically against the backdrop of the sky. Once at the summit, the breathtaking vistas stretch out in every direction: Lake Agnes, Lake Louise, Mountain Peaks, Glaciers, Larch trees…
The Elevation of Devil's thumb is 2494m, the elevation gain is 1046m. The last 1-2 km climbing was very touch.
Can you see Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise?
The video shows I was climbing Devil's Thumb...

This is my cooking nook. Before, everything resided on the counter top. I had to scramble between the table and the stove to cook. I'm very happy with our new arrangement. Our kitchen feels very "habiller" as my husband says or dressed.
I love the easy access to the knives!
We plan on buying a large wooden counter top to place on top of this counter unit we have to make a larger work space.

Spring
Further down south, spring has arrived and a brown bear comes out of hibernation, searching for food and water. Ecosystems abound, and as the bear paws around, she is surrounded by networks of underground mycorrhizae, who live in symbiosis with plants, insects, and bacteria. These under-soil mycorrhizae help to provide phosphorus and nitrogen to their soil-plant friends. And every once in a while, these mycorrhizae reproduce and send up fruiting bodies that produce spores, or as we know them, mushrooms, truffles and chanterelles.
Fresh water gives life to surrounding fauna, and with help from the sun, growth is restored. These ecosystems are a source of energy, a glowing nucleus pulsating life into centuries old forests. In these woodlands, a magical owl watches over the cycles of life that have sustained themselves since before humans arrived. Forests that thrived, where once prehistoric animals roamed, and where hybrid dinosaur creatures capture our imaginations. They come to remind us that the fossil fuels we excavate today - oil, gas and coal, come from these ancient forests, plants, algae and plankton. As we consume these decaying organic remains that are over millions of years old, we release carbon dioxide into our airs and consequently cause man made exponential global warming.
As spirits of these ancient plants are released into the skies, they take the form of carbon dioxide and populate the air like vagabonds far from their underground home. Upon their journey drifting through northern skies, they too are witness to the surreal beauty of Aurora Borealis. Northern lights - a sign that solar winds have paid us a visit and altered electrons and protons in Mother Earth’s atmosphere. A reminder that our tiny earthly ecosystems are interconnected with far away giant stars and energies.
Down below, an elder shares the ways of times past when humans lived in harmony with nature, when we lived from earth, with earth, and we would make sure to replenish and respect all living beings. We treated Mother Nature for the grand spirit that she is, abundant, inspiring, magical, and strong. Humans were not above nature but part of her great and wise ecosystems.
The big blue moon overhears these tales and whispers her song down to the waters, making the tides dance to her melody, as the fisherman paddles through the currents and is guided by her nightly sky map. She sings to the fox and the farmer, and all of the villagers below, telling them when to plant their crops in harmony with her lunar cycles, reminding them to cultivate sustainable lands and to respect the wisdom of ancient seeds. The farmer listens intently, casting her eyes up thanking the moon for its song, and grateful for her crop. The farmer’s friend, a Praying Mantis, known as a master predator of arthropods, sits guarding her crop of corn. Corn is a staple food and cultural symbol of Indigenous Peoples across the Americas for over 10,000 years. After Indigenous peoples taught European settlers to grow the indigenous grain, it was introduced around the world. Considered a sacred plant, Maize shapes daily meals, and influences spiritual, physical and economic systems.

Mid Summer’s Night Dream by Wessel Couzijn, High Park: Lying in the grass by the path are two barely discernible shapes in cement, wrapped in strands of stainless steel. At first it is unclear what they are, until we perceive the fingers wrapped around the side and the chrome metal “parts” on each of the shapes. These are lovers, lying side by side, oblivious to the world, their shapely contours reduced to the barest essentials, their topographies outlined in steel bands like lines on a map.
We circle around them to learn more and discover what seems to be a piece of a wing emerging at the head. This is a fragment of a dream: have these lovers crashed to earth in a rocket ship? Where have they come from?
Wessel Couzijn was a Dutch sculptor who studied in Amsterdam, Paris and Italy. Stricken with polio as a child he spent years in hospitals. A Jewish anti-fascist, Couzijn fled Nazi violence to New York in 1940, but returned after the war to teach and work in the Netherlands. In 1960 the Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Biennial was almost wholly devoted to his work. In 1963 his bronze work “Corporate Entity” was placed outside the headquarters of Unilever in Rotterdam.

Anonymous Somebody
Runnymede Station
Elicser Elliot's distinctive aerosol style is on display in groups of portraits of subway patrons throughout the concourse and street level. The images are taken from Elliot's sketchbook of real and imagined people: for example, the nurse is actually Elliot's agent's grandmother who lives near Runnymede Station, and took the same subway to work every day for 40 years. As the artist says, ““Anonymous Somebody” captures the snippets of our bustling Bloor West Village lives while standing still. The artworks aim to communicate the story of individual spirit as fresh and relevant to the metabolism of the neighbourhood. The images work as an anchor to a thought or memory for the person viewing it - to commemorate, celebrate, provoke, and heal”.
The characters are presented three-dimensionally, on panels that do not wholly align with the surrounding tiling, as if served up to us for our contemplation. We might recognize ourselves in them – the woman on the cell phone at the top of the escalator, the man sleeping on a streetcar after a hard shift, the woman sitting on a bench with a coffee and a magazine, the man waiting for a bus with his hands in his pockets. These are the glimpses we see as we transit through our day, and these we see again and again as we pass through the station. We will have our favourites, wonder at their stories, give them names, design a backstory for them.
Elicser Elliot is an alumnus of Sheridan College's animation program. Initially an aerosol artist, his work has been shown at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Museum.

Corinthian columns and capitals of the former bank building at King and Bay in Toronto. Built in 1912 by architect Carrere and Hastings of New York and Eustace Bird of Toronto. The building was demolished in 1966.

The white marble marvel is composed of a stepped stage backed by an arrangement of grand Corinthian columns, archways and ornate panels.
The Greek Theatre is made out of salvaged pieces of the former Bank of Toronto building on the Southwest corner of King and Bay streets, which stood where Mies Van Der Rohe’s TD Centre now stands. Constructed in 1913 and demolished in 1965 the neoclassical building was designed by the New York City architectural firm Carrere and Hastings, who designed the New York Public Library, and Toronto based Eustace G. Bird. Inspired by the historical Paris Stock Market—Palais Brongniart— the Bank of Toronto was a grand building; the plinth/base of the colonnade alone was taller than the people walking past it.
But this isn’t just a reconstruction - it is a complete reimagination! The elements were rearranged, shortened and adapted into a new structure designed by renowned Canadian architect Ron Thom in the 1980s. Unlike other artifacts at the park, this theatre is not just a folly, it is an actual working stage with productions throughout the year. And it’s the perfect place to get your wedding photos or that perfect Guild Park selfie!

In 1842 there were no homes on the land where Hopkinstown was to develop. There was only farmland which was owned by Evan Hopkin. By the end of that decade, however, the place had been transformed by the opening of the Great Western Colliery and by other industrial activity. The name "Hopkin's Town" only appears in 1871, and seems to refer to the former landowner. The mine was closed in 1983.

The Windows of Time Mural
1971 Weston Road (on the side of the building)
The Windows of Time is a vibrant mural done by Brazilian born artist Christiano de Arte. The artist uses acrylic airbrush and brush for smooth and seamless blending of colours to create panels or “windows” of specific time periods of what life was like in Weston Village from the late 1800’s to present day.
The mural design consists of four segments that are separated by the use of an illustration of a wooden frame. The segments come together to make one fluid image. Each segment represents a time period which can be identified by the fashion and other time markers such as the “penny farthing” or “high wheeler bicycle” and fashions of the 1800’s, 1940’s, 1960’s and present day. It is interesting to see how the artist not only uses the people in the foreground of the mural to identify the period and how it has evolved but also the use of the space in the background.
I particularly love this mural because it captures when Weston became the diverse, multicultural community it is today while celebrating its history.

Ice World
The pristine lands of Arctic ice unfold onto a magical landscape. Deep inside of an ice cave, different shades of blue reflect melting walls. A frozen cave that rains northern waters. Warmth has carved out a hollow space, and as we follow this tunnel of frozen rain drops, we reach an opening at the foot of a giant glacier. Light and a vast snow-covered land opens before us.
Whispers of Nature's ancestors living in symbiosis with ancient ecosystems. The Inuit have lived here for millennia, with a deep understanding that humans are an integral part of all living creatures and ecosystems; their survival based upon a profound and intimate relationship held with the environment. Wood, bone, antlers and claws used as hooks to catch Arctic Char; hunting for fish has always been an important source of food.
Other creatures also inhabit these lands of ice and snow. The arctic is home to the largest bears in the world, polar bears, the arctic’s top predators. And in these harsh cold lands, a polar bear cub has two and a half years to learn from its mother how to survive. As our planet warms and ice caps melt, polar bear populations are increasingly at risk and are directly impacted by climate change. They now face a challenging road ahead of them to secure their survival.
Melting ice caps are not only affecting the survival of those above land, they are also causing major challenges to sea creatures underwater, such as the Narwhal, a unique tusked whale whose survival is endangered. For thousands of years, these creatures have been a staple of the Inuit community and have played a crucial role in aquatic ecosystems. Arctic oil and gas exploration is increasing as ice caps melt, and as oil and gas industries lobby for continued and increased exploration, and as humans continue to consume more oil and gas, offshore arctic drilling will increasingly disrupt this pristine land. Seismic testing and underwater explosions are known to disrupt communication and orientation for those undersea. It is our fossil fuel dependency that is changing lives and vast ecosystems in deep blue waters, even when we do not see them.
Up ahead transport ships and trade routes also form part of our modern-day landscape in the Arctic. With warming temperatures and disappearing ice caps, Arctic ship traffic is expected to increase, as industries eye new trade routes. In time, as more ships make their way through the Northwest Passage and the Northern Sea route, greenhouse and methane gas emissions will also continue to increase. These once untouched lands are rapidly transforming, but time and hope remain for us to make more sustainable choices.

Williamson Park in Lancaster was built on the sandstone quarries from which much of the stone for the city was cut. In the 1860s it was landscaped by mill workers left unemployed by the "Cotton Famine" of the US Civil War.
The park has many outcrops of "Pendle Grit" sandstone overgrown with ferns and ivy and covered with lichen. I was surprised to see a band of softer rock, shale I think, between the two thick beds of sandstone, something I had not noticed before. See webapps.bgs.ac.uk/Memoirs/docs/B01527.html

PS: Experiences and recommendations:
-- This is not a simple walk-up. You can go "Clockwise" or "Anti-clockwise". Clockwise is a bit easy.
-- You must be comfortable using your hands to scramble.
-- This is a long, demanding hike. Take enough water and food, no water on the ridge.
-- Start early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms and to give yourself plenty of time.
-- Go with a group to avoid the bears in the bears' country
-- The ridge is completely exposed. If there is thunderstorm, high wind, rain, or snow/ice on the route, the rock becomes very slippery, do not attempt to hike on those weather!
-- You need download offline map (AllTrails, Gaia GPS or Topo Maps Canada). AllTrails and Gaia GPS need to pay, Topo Maps Canada is free, and it has all the trails info all over the world! You need to download it beforehand when there is signal, and you can use it offline!

Lawrence Underpass Mural
Lawrence Ave underpass (at Weston GO/UP Express Station)
Underneath the railway is a colourful mural on both sides that incorporates flora, fauna and a modern touch with the use of graffiti font.
Artists Alex Bacon (Alexander Lazich) and Que Rockford (Quentin Rockford) have incorporated local flowers and wildlife against an abstract background. The artists use spray paint to give the animals and flowers a soft feel which contrasts with the hard lines and sharp edges of the graffiti-style writing.
Quentin is Anishinaabe and Odawa: the artist’s indigenous background influences his style of painting and ultimately the mural itself. Quentin fashions the images of animals in the style of native art.
The artists have incorporated natural features of the Humber River and Weston, such as great blue herons, saw-whet owl, blue jays, salmon and local flora such as the red trillium.
The mural is a celebration of Rockford’s family and heritage. If you look closely you will see an image of the artist’s great-great grandmother incorporated into the mural’s vibrancy.

From Here to Now
Bayview Station
Throughout Bayview station you’ll find twenty-four pieces. Start exploring and look for black swirls on the floors and walls. At first you might not recognize what they are, but keep moving, when you view these works from the right perspective you’ll have that A-Ha moment! You’ll often see a block of colour near the black illustration, shift your perspective until it starts to look like a square to view the piece from the right angle. Keep your eye out for a needle and spool, a tea cup, a cut apple, slices of lemon, a salt shaker. There are more treasures in store up the stairs.
The visual distortion, known as anamorphosis, shifts with the viewer’s position. The image seems distorted when seen from a frontal position but when viewed from one side or from an angle it resumes normal proportions. For a real treat view the images through the lens of your smartphone: they’ll appear as if in augmented reality – a ladder leaning against the wall, a stepladder, a pocket watch floating in the air, a dog waiting at the top of the stairs for its owner to come home.
The work heightens our awareness about movement and travel through these pedestrian spaces and infuses our experience with a sense of play. The pieces are made from waterjet-cut glazed ceramic tiles laid in the walls and floors, and based on free-hand black line drawings. The artist, Panya Clark Espinal, is a Toronto-based multi-media installation artist who has produced many public art commissions. Her pixelated interpretation of the famous Jack Pine painting by Tom Thomson is installed at Barberry Place, just a block from this station.

A message with massive impact to all chosen ones and star seeds:
You are the water of water the source of love your light and your being is what awakens those around you.
Through you they can realize what it means to be truly loved without prejudice.
Not everyone will be able to understand you emotionally because you have a different perspective on the world, but be sure that the waves of your love will reach even the smallest corner of the universe because you are and have always been exactly what humanity has wanted for eons.
Yes, you heard right, you are a wish that has come true, which is also the reason why you often have the feeling that you are the fairy godmother for others.
Your fairy godmother is also on her way to you. You may not realize it yet, but love, joy, happiness and many magical miracles are on their way to you.
You have the gift of touching the innermost part of each individual and awakening what lies dormant in each of them, simply through your being.
Be as you are, because that is exactly where your magic lies. You may not always see it, but your light can be seen and felt throughout the entire universe.
You have already experienced what an interstellar encounter with someone from another star race feels like.
Be sure you will get to know a few others. The universe will guide you and you will realize and feel that your intuition is getting stronger.
We know that it is not always easy to understand what we want to give you, but as you already know, it will come to you when the time is right.
Know that we are incredibly grateful for what you are doing because it takes courage, strength and an iron will and you have had all of that since the beginning of time.
The message from Atlantis: The Age of Aquarius has already begun and you are all in the middle of it The love you feel will change, it will be deeper than anything you have ever known. You will realize that you will love more than just one person. Because love is what connects you all, just like the water of water that embraces our Mother Earth.
No matter where you are, what you are doing, take a moment to close your eyes, listen to the music and feel the gratitude flowing through your body.
Gratitude that you woke up this morning, gratitude that you can feel and sense this very moment, because you are all in the here and now. Take the time every day to pause for a moment and to realize what you are grateful for that day, because gratitude is the sister of love.
Raise your vibration now because the ascension process has long since begun.
With kind regards your Universe

I am in the process of rolling out all of my new logo stuff with my packaging. I won't officially roll it out to clients until after the New Year, but I thought I would do a test run with a gift certificate I am giving to Connor's teacher for Christmas.
Here are the details. :)
Logo was done by Amanda E.
5x7 Boxes - Paper Source
Tissue Paper - Nashville Wraps
Larger Square Labels - Mobile Graphics (local company here in Victor, but they did an AMAZING job on the labels. They come in 12x16 inch sheets and depending on how many you order are like $5.00 a sheet! They are easy to work with, so check out their site!
Brown Bags - Nashville Wraps
5x7 envelopes from Paper Source
M&M's in logo colors (each client gets a bag of these, with print orders there is a "Thank You" card attached. - local Wegman's.
Business Cards were printed at Miller's with rounded corners and UV coating. I need to make that brown on the card the same dark brown as the rest of my packaging...I don't like them this way at all.
The gift certificate goes in the envelope and that goes in the box. The box goes in the bag. :) Lots of unwrapping that way!

I'm happy to report that Petey is still enjoying the big pillow I got him for napping on the sofa. And that led to poodlenose mentioning some dog blankets they got at LLBean, which led me to order a bed with a quasi-real mattress from LLBean, which Pete loves. So thanks to poodlenose for the suggestion. Pete can rest comfortably in pretty much any room of the house now :-)

Untitled by Khaula Mazhar: Since the neighbourhood has a large population of immigrants, South Asians in particular, I used an image of a young South Asian woman in her traditional attire appreciating nature. Adjusting to her new world, like so many immigrant women she is naturally resilient and looks for something familiar to give her hope and strength. Nature is something that we love and appreciate in any part of the world, and it makes an appearance in so many classic western and eastern paintings, our love of nature is something that connects us all, it can bring us together and strengthen community. The style is a contemporary twist on Mughal art inspired by the work of Hajra Mansoor, who is the pride of the South Asian community.
I am working on an ongoing series that appreciates South Asian women. Growing up in Canada at a time when diversity was not as appreciated it was very hard to be a visibly brown girl. My culture was misrepresented and misunderstood and rather than feeling any sense of pride for my rich history and culture I felt awkward and basically like I would just like to disappear into the surroundings and not stand out. Over time I started to feel the need to make a space for myself, my ethnicity and be able to share my stories myself rather than have a non-brown person tell their version of it. I realized how important it was for young girls to see positive images that they could relate to and realize that their beauty was unique and that standards set by non-coloured people were not something they had to follow or be intimidated by. They should celebrate and share their own history, and culture and take pride in their ethnicity.

Morning Glory
Spadina Station
Louis de Niverville was a celebrated collage artist who got his start with a mural at the Expo Theatre in Montreal for Expo 67. At the age of six, he was hospitalized for five years with spinal tuberculosis and separated from his twelve siblings for fear of infection. Largely self-taught, he attributed much of the fantasy nature of his work to this lonely period when he had to entertain himself for hours at a time. He says, "When I was a child my pair of scissors was my most important toy; I liked to cut characters out of comic books. These little people took on a life of their own and became my best friends and even my family. I kept them in an envelope and when I took them out they gave wings to my imagination."
This large porcelain enamel collage, called Morning Glory, draws on his childhood dreams. We see a person lying in bed, seemingly protected by a lion, while, behind the child, a rabbit figure which appears to have been taken from Alice in Wonderland, stands watch. There are themes of escapism here. A girl in a nightdress floats away, lifted by a kite, while, on the other side, a Mary Poppins-type figure floats with an umbrella. A woman climbs the stairs with a giant cup of tea, and on the far left a person dives through a window. There are several women present, leaping over fences, crossing fields, dancing at the top of a staircase. Each of the people represented seems to be a character in a story of which we know only fragments.
Louis de Niverville’s work depicts scenes of surrealism and fantasy. His work appears at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and Pearson Airport, and in art galleries such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston.
