The long drive on I-20, which cuts east/west across Texas doesn’t have to be as boring as it might seem. Some of the earlier farm houses, businesses and towns along the route have seen better days and provide interesting waypoints.

This water resource is typically only available in the early season. There was only this one puddle when we were there and the stream-bed was dry elsewhere.

RT2508 T+3 waypoint bravo
May contain seizure inducing lights, sounds or thoughts. Proceed at your own risk.
It’s the last weekend before the cesspools and Petrie dishes we commonly refer to as schools relieve little and not so little people (sic) from our personal space for a few hours a day, some days, some weeks, for up to 6 hours if there are no fire alarms, earthquakes, actual fires, viral outbreaks, job actions or active shooter incidents. Wait, that’s my American news feed making me crazy. Up here at waypoint Bravo, it’s a cause for fireworks and celebrations. That, and it’s Saturday night, alright. Susie?
Be gone ye little vermin. These lights and sounds will make you want to be locked up in stinky cinder block rooms so mummy and daddy can have a little me time. Or, more likely work, clean, take the pets to the vet, run to the bank and shop for your sorry little excuses of humanity. Then we can get in our cars, vans and SUVs, drive a block or two around the neighborhood and line up for hours with all the other loser parents, many of whom have already been drinking because maybe they skipped on one or two of the other tasks. Waiting for hours to drive up to the doorstep of the school and open the doors for you to enter like a frikin’ Prima Donna leaving a swanky cash only night club with paparazzi screaming for attention. No, walking to and from school for you my precious. It is dangerous. You could be kidnapped, raped, start doing drugs or worse! You could talk to other kids, run and skin your knee, lose a baseball glove or maybe get wet in the rain, whenever that gets here. Of course if that happens maybe you’ll start wearing pants in winter instead of shorts.
When I was your age, mother locked the door when I left the top stoop in the morning, shortly after brushing my teeth, and I didn’t get back in until it was too dark to ride my bike. I’d have a 40 lb bag of books, papers and a cheese slice and white bread sandwich on my back. I would walk 2 miles to school, uphill, in the snow, both ways. And I would run, get wet and fear being ambushed by the notorious kissing girls gang every day. Note the use of ambushed rather than attacked. I remember being ambushed more than once.
Bring it on. Bring it on! Whiz, boom, sizzle.

Ha ha ha, to all us empty nesters, those were the days.
The first waypoint I entered in my Garmin flight plan for departing Clark was the Abacan River, where I changed course. I figured to go over the Oasis Hotel, but forgot about the pool as a reference point. That's pilotage for you!
"Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man." - Zhuangzi (paraphrased)

Camp site 144 (Halfmile's waypoint CS0144) on the Pacific Crest Trail, a 35 minutes hike south from Walden. Walden is at mile 145.4 and was created by trail angel Mary who maintains a water tank for hikers on her property there. She also has a small lending library and two picnic tables. Way to go Mary!

When we visited, Tule Spring was flowing but most of the bottom of the creek was covered in reddish brown algae.
The nearby fire water tank and hydrant with attached hose was the best source to fill up.
