My take on Princeton,IL. famous and oft-photographed Red Covered Bridge. Not the nicest time of year to visit this landmark-it was 25* with a 20 mph breeze this brisk March day-but still a great place nonetheless....

Flamborough Head Lighthouse, Selwicks Bay, North Sea, UK
The Flamborough Head Lighthouse acts as a waypoint for passing deep sea vessels and coastal traffic, and marks Flamborough Head for vessels heading towards Scarborough and Bridlington. The first lighthouse on Flamborough Head from 1669 was never lit. The present lighthouse, designed by Samuel Wyatt and costing £8,000 to build, was first lit on December 1, 1806. The current electric fog signal was installed in 1975, replacing older equipment. In the past, warnings in foggy weather were provided by rockets, discharged every 5 minutes and reaching an altitude of 600 feet (180 m). The last lighthouse keepers left on 8 May 1996.
i don't know if it technically qualifies as a "thing", but I find it very difficult to walk past an object poking up out of the water when I have a camera in my hands. Perhaps it's Freudian.... - Felixstowe, Suffolk

Summary: This is another of the many waterfalls along the Niagara Escarpment. It is secluded, but still easy to visit and very close to the much more impressive Eugenia Falls. Stop by on your way to or from the big waterfall.
Hoggs Falls is another of the many waterfalls of the Niagara Escarpment. This is a small, secluded and mostly wild waterfall, located in forest preserve in Beaver Valley. There are no platforms or fences or signs, just some old mill ruins. The trail to the falls is at most 1km. It appears to be a good spot for fishing. The fishermen were literally running to get there.
Hoggs Falls is very close to Eugenia Falls and there is no reason not to visit both while in the area. To reach Hoggs Falls from Eugenia Falls, head south on Grey County Road 13. Take a right onto Hwy 4. After a couple of minutes take a right (north) onto East Back Line road (East Back Line jogs when it hits Hwy 4, so you will reach East Back Line south before you reach East Back line north). This is a hard packed dirt road. Take the first left onto Lower Valley Road. The trail to the falls is on the left hand side of the road, and is marked by two yellow posts. You can park on the right hand side of the road.
[Niagara Escarpment] Nearby Falls
Eugenia Falls is just around the corner. Indian Falls, Jones Falls, Inglis Falls, Keefer Falls and Walters Falls are all in the nearby Owen Sound area.

FUBRR: pronounced foo-bar, a navigation fix northeast of Baltimore, Maryland. Not to be confused with FUBAR, a term used by Navy pilots when operating around an aircraft carrier.

"Shadow Arch" is a name I came up with. Not sure if this one's been discovered or named, so this is what I'm calling it. It's located in a very remote area of east Joshua Tree (please don't ask for exact location), and I was really happy to find it! In preparing for the hike, I spent a lot of time on Google maps studying the terrain and marking waypoints. I noticed a strong shadow with a light colored hole in the middle and figured it might be an arch. Sure enough, a beautiful big arch! Things rarely go totally as planned on these hikes, but I got lucky on this one. Today's lesson: Study the shadows!

So like many other LOH members who do the board of all their OC's and such, I figured I'd do one for Sunrise. If I were to do one for Cardinal, it would take me all day, and frankly, I don't have that sort of time as of right now. Anyway here they are! The only one missing is Storm Petrel as I only have one pair of white wings.

So what are my plans for the year 2016? I have my own photography project and access to great equipment, so how am I going to spend this once in a life time opportunity? Well, there is always some uncertainty when one tries to forecast the future – God laughs when man is planning his doings – and with this kind of project opportunities are sometimes created by themselves. But I've tried to categorize everything I've done in the past just to see what kind of interests I'm made of. Based on my earlier photography and gut feeling the waypoint number one in the fictional map of my own photography is 'the dark frames'.
For some reason I fell in love with the dark frames already very early in my photographic adventures and they have been perhaps the most influential images that I've done – at least within photography circles where I've shown my images to other people. I don't know if I can explain this love for the darkness in photography – and not really sure if I should even try it – but in my opinion the images done in daylight are often too self-evident, plain declarative and without secrets. Surrounding things with darkness takes images to another level, which often lie somewhere within the inner world. Playing with the liminal state where images are hair close to break the reality but still remain loyal to the nature of photography is just something I love to do.
So the dark frames are definitely something I should explore more. Not just because I love doing them, but also to distinguish myself from the other photographers out there and to build my own identity as a photographer. Like I have already said somewhere else, I see myself as 'a raw material in a cooking state' and to develop myself further in photography, I should find my own niche and cultivate it into something that would define me as a photographer. This really is no news and anyone who is trying to become a photographer in some way or another has to find his own niche/subject/target/etc. So this is something I should try to do with my one year journey with the Zeiss-lenses, Sony-bodies and all. I don't want to make this too ambitious as great goals always come with the great risks, but I definitely want to call this card and see where my own inner vision and photographic eye can take me. So with these words the dark frames are one waypoint in my photography year 2016.

As always the OS map matched to satelitte images gives a hint of a posssible explore target.
An urbex'ey way that turned out to be an expected dissapointment i.e. there was little structure left over. It could have been so different in the woods near Warnham, West Sussex.
Better luck next time?
