Working with children from the Clinton Middle School on two occasions artist Justin Berry tries to find out exactly how much we can learn about a work of art simply by looking at it and opening our eyes. To initiate the project he took children from the school on a field trip to some of the many contemporary art galleries present in their own neighborhood of Chelsea. Looking at shows by artists such as Yayoi Kusama they saw the way that simple elements could provoke powerful reactions in the appropriate context. Based on drawings they made Berry generated a virtual exhibit for his Waymaker Gallery project, using the same software used to produce movies such as Shrek and Toy Story.

Coming back a semester later to work with a new batch of students, Berry asked the children to imagine what they saw as appropriate narratives to describe the show. Giving them books to fill with their stories and videotaping some of their accounts, Berry will combine the text and video on the website of his gallery to display a show where the works are presented not with narratives that explain the images, but with the narratives that the images have inspired.

Justin Berry has created The Waymaker Gallery as a vehicle for reimagining what is possible. The Waymaker Gallery is an imaginary art space that is not bound by the laws of physics or budgetary concerns. A container reshapes whatever it contains; this is true for both art and a glass of water. The Waymaker Gallery is a venue that conforms to the art it exhibits rather than the other way around, adapting to the artist's practice rather than forcing the artist to adapt. Over time the gallery is reshaped even as it is reimagined.

Along the trail there are several police check stops at which trekkers must register and present their trekking permits. At this particular check stop a couple of goats were butting heads across the street. Every officer at the check stop was out watching the match as it was likely the most entertaining thing they had seen in days.

Guys working hard in very dangerous circumstances. The will soon link up the regional district town of Beni to the lonely road to Muktinath. The final plan is to continue this road through the protected Upper Mustang region and link with a road in Tibet. This will be the second road linking Nepal to China and the consequences are huge.

This road crew was lucky enough to have a Jack Hammer but were not lucky enough to have safety boots or hard hats. They were being thrown all over the place by the jack hammer while working only a meter from the edge of the cliff. Respect.

Not much of a hot spring, although it was blistering hot. The remnants of an old pool were right next to the extremely powerful Marsyandgi river. It likely had washed the pool away several times. It was pleasant thought to simply sit and soak our aching feet in the scalding mud.

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, we gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday - the remembrance of Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We sang songs of praise, we raised palms in the air and sang "Hosanna", the kids had a palm parade, and we heard a sermon from Pastor Don Beachy on Jesus before Pontius Pilate in the gospel of Matthew.

The countryside, (entire country as a matter of fact) was preparing for the Dashian festival; a fifteen day festival involving mush drinking, gambling and eating. On the third day of the festival it is tradition to sacrifice a goat. It is only a matter of time before this one gets what's coming to him.

Marhpa is not only a well established agricultural centre, it is very picturesque with twisting narrow streets and old white washed brick buildings. The local people in the region paint their homes once a year prior to Dashian so we were able to see the town at its finest.

Taking the highways in Nepal is an adventure in itself. We rented a private jeep with driver. No one in their right mind would ever attempt to drive while here. There is one good road in the country with limited potholes. That being the case it is very busy with car, truck, bus, and motor cycle traffic. Most of the time the road is two lanes, but not always. It twists its way over mountains and along raging rivers, and travels through several towns where livestock regularly spill out into traffic. For our own sense of well being we stopped counting the crashes.

Navami, the 9th day of Dashian is sacrifice day. We went to Bindhya Basini Temple to catch the action. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your intestinal fortitude) we were both too late and too early to catch a goat... getting it. We saw a lot of fresh blood scattered around the temple, and as we were leaving we saw a goat getting dragged up the stairs. Nonetheless it was very interesting to watch everyone taking part in the processions.
