Unfortunately, the last of the series... but my favourite.
With apologies for posting anything to do with snow. :-)
What a long winter we've just had and the only time I took my camera out of the bag was to get pictures of my granddaughters..... until Easter Sunday. My husband and I drove to the Waterloo region and my hope was that I might get some photos of Mennonites travelling by horse and buggy. I had done a bit of research to find out if Mennonites would be offended by picture-taking and read that unlike the Amish they're not adverse as long as they're not asked to pose or boundaries aren't breached.
I had just about given up hope when my husband pulled into the parking lot of a very old schoolhouse, quite different than the old ones we usually see in Ontario and while I was fiddling with my camera he said, 'You might want to look over there." I did and saw the most amazing (to me) sight. We had stopped just as a line of horses and buggies appeared on the horizon and they just kept coming...probably between 50 and 75 families all heading in our direction. It was quite something to hear the sound of that many horse hooves clopping on the pavement.
In spite of the fact it was Easter and one would expect tulips, we had snow that day and plenty of it. Most of the Mennonite families were in open carriages and they surely did look uncomfortable with the way the snow was blinding them but the horses were all obviously eager, knowing they were trotting toward their lunch and a warm barn.

This Canadian built 1908 McLaughlin - Buick was photographed in Waterloo Ontario in 1911. The registered owner of the 1911 Ontario Porcelain license plate number 787 was John Kaite of Southampton Ontario. The driver is Miss Rosella Becker b. Sep.1892. Married in July 1916 she became Mrs. Leonard Gildner b.1890.
The unique windshield frame was manufactured in mahogany and trimmed with brass and was an option as was the roof covering. Note the license number 787 has been painted on the coach lamps as well. Could the young man in the photo be Mr. Kaite and was he courting Miss Becker at the time? Are all the girls sisters perhaps? This may be a B&W photo but could the car body be dark red?
The 1908 McLaughlin-Buick model F was the first year that vehicles were manufactured in Oshawa Ontario. Their cost was $1400.00 a huge amount of money at the time. There were 154 Model F touring built in 1908, These Buick built Canadian cars were not a part of General Motors till 1915.
This image is a scan of a real photo postcard. The original is on file at the Waterloo Public Library. They have wrongly called the car a Ford Model T.
Of further interest the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa is in possesion of a 1908 McLaughlin-Buick Model F. Their car was aquired by Sam McLaughlin in 1937 when he traded a new Chevrolet in exchange for this first year car of his companys automotive production.. The original owner of that car was Nathan Duxbury Seaman (1850-1928) from Sauble Falls. They believe that the trade was the same vehicle in this early photo. Perhaps as Sauble Falls and Southampton are close it maybe, however why by 1911 does the license registration show a different name.?
