i was driving on a dirty road looking for birds when i saw a shape at my right.

i'm used to find owls that are very mimetic and cannot be search easily with a sight.

the best thing to do with all the wild animals is to be used to their shape.

so i stopped the car and i came back...nothing there...but i decided to wait a bit and after a minute ...

peekaboo!!! a curious spotted eagle owl (bubo africanus) rose from behind some rocks.

i really love these birds!!

This was the last evening of our short skiing stay in South Tyrol. We had 4 days of glorious sunshine, fantastic snow, ideal conditions for sporty winter activities and relaxation. On the left you can see the Schlern massif, which ends with the Santner Peak, which was first ascended in July 1880 by Johann Santner, a Tyrolean mountaineer. In the valley below is the beautiful village of Seis/Siusi and in the back the mountain range of the Merano and Vinschgau Alps.

"It was a beautiful, bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it."

– Diana Gabaldon

Every morning I take a walk through my neighborhood and find very few brightly colored leaves. Here's to capturing all the colors of nature before they transform.

This was the last day of August early evening we had a little stroll over to Fleswick Bay, Tony took his fishing rod to have a scop in off the rocks while I played on the beach with my camera. It was fine for a while on my own as I walked along the beach beneath the cliffs reading the names carved into the sandstone monuments to the past and not so distant past then I started to feel quite alone and spooked, not sure if it was the cliffs dominating or memories that were not mine carved in stone. It was very strange I'm not easily spooked but I was pleased when Tony appeared from round the heads and we started to make our way up from the beach I don't think I will be going back 🌹

It was so nice to see all the birds at the platform at the entrance to Colusa National Wildlife Refuge. There were birds everywhere and we were excited to get this pair of Ross’s Geese flying high together.

Both Ross’s and Snow Geese have seen population explosions as climate change has warmed their arctic breeding grounds, reducing snow cover and increasing plant growth. The two species seem to be hybridizing more frequently as warming allows their breeding ranges to come into contact.

Something to make you laugh

When we first started getting into wildlife photography (and still struggling to tell the difference between a chicken and an Eagle) we noticed this 'brownish' bird occasionally exploding from the long grass., then flying off at high speed

Urmm.. was that a small raptor!?

Well no., it's actually a Skylark! durrr! well you have to learn these things!

I was coming back from Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park early one Saturday morning when I came across this pond. With no cover around I managed to scare off all the water fowl around. I then waited for the stillness of the pond. We sure do get some amazing skies in Alberta.

She was one of the greatest loves of my life. She was my once in a lifetime dog and friend. This was her in all of her wondrous glory back in 1997 on a week long backpacking trip into Algonquin Provincial Park. If you look closely you can see her bear bell around her neck. She was quite young here and lived to be 15 years old and still continues to live deep within my heart.

The information says taken on November 29th 2020 however that is when I took a photo of the original photo which was taken back in 1997.

We finally got some snow! I took the opportunity to visit O'Bannon to celebrate and get some snowy shots. Unfortunately the mid afternoon sun was working against me. The little bit of snow (about half an inch) melted quite fast, creating scenes like this.

Tune

Holdin' me back

Gravity's holdin' me back

I want you to hold out the palm of your hand

Why don't we leave it at that?

Nothin' to say

When everything gets in the way

Seems you cannot be replaced

And I'm the one who will stay, oh

In this world, it's just us

You know it's not the same as it was

In this world, it's just us

You know it's not the same as it was

As it was, as it was

You know it's not the same

Sorry, I was lazy and used the Google translator. On one dark winter morning at the End of the World, the faint light that was trying to break the horizon was not sufficient to reveal the splendor of the cloud cover. But the faith and the expectation of those who open a book without cover were enough to reveal what the darkness hid.

I came across this place on the way to somewhere else and waited for some movement. Gave up and walked away but on the way back someone was there!

This photo was made last Friday morning on the way to a customer appointment. It felt like it had been raining non-stop for two days, but shortly before my arrival the cloud cover suddenly opened up and at least gave a glimpse of sunrise.

I was amazed by the mood lighting. Now all I needed was something to photograph as a foreground. Just at that moment I drove past this place and the decision was made. I turned, drove back and floated across the field in a suit and business shoes to find a composition before the window closed again. The picture, cold fingers and protective shoes were the result.

This was actually taken a couple of weeks ago during a snow storm as I scurried around the valley floor trying to get as many shots as possible before the storm broke up. I was fortunate enough to set up my tripod at the tunnel that morning at 6 AM next to Willie Huang and Aaron Meyers among several others.

I will definitely be missing the snowstorm that's moving in today at Yosemite with a snow level down to almost 2000 feet tonight as I will be with my wonderful family. I wish safe travels to all who are out there tonight, and a very Merry Christmas to all of you!

And it still is today……

This moment at the evening, when the sun is setting into the ocean, is always a breathtaking view. To experience this on such a beautiful place like Praia de Melides was something really special for me.

I did walk for a while up and down the edge of the cliff looking for a suitable location for that photo and it was so difficult to decide. In the end, it was this tiny biotope what did draw my attention the most.

Just imagine You are a resident of this isolated world. Everything seems to be normal for You. You do Your daily work trying to make ends meet. But one day You are able to see the big picture and You realise, that the part of the world You call Your home, it's actually the only part of it what is left. How would this recognition change You future decitions ?

And he was successful. Seconds later, he caught a Zitting Cisticola for a meal. This is a migratory raptor from Central Asia that come in large numbers during winters to India. They can be commonly seen across the countryside and mostly in grasslands where they roost communally.

We sighted one on this fence preening and he spent around 5 minutes cleaning himself up. Then suddenly he dived flew behind the vehicle and landed in a far away field. He had a Zitting Cisticola, a small warbler in his claws which he finished pretty quickly.

Thanks so much in advance for your views, faves and feedback.

It was cold outside today so I brought the blossoms inside to take a pic! Texture... my own. I wish everyone a good weekend and thanks so much for your visit, faves and invites!

I was never so beautiful as my dreams were........

During one of those " Under the affuence of incohol " conversations with two friends, brothers in fact,

the chat turned to dreams, after much thought provoking and quite serious supposition and theory expounding, i casually said, "In reality it is all probably just inconsequential sleep memory" ....... it didn't go down quite as well as the beer had. ;-))

Spinalonga, was the last leper colony in Europe....

in 1579 the Venetians built a mighty fortress here on the ruins of an ancient acropolis. The Venetians kept control of the island even after the rest of Crete fell to the Ottomans in 1669 and it remained under their control for almost another half a century until its capitulation in 1715.
