Wander around the woods at Wallington Hall yesterday in the pouring rain! some great autumn colours although I would have preferred it to have been dry & a polariser would have been nice!

An Easter Sunday afternoon spent wandering around the gardens at Wallington Hall in Northumberland.

A number of mature trees were brought down during the two severe storms that swept the UK towards the end of 2021.

Surprised today to see that some of trees laid low have been imaginatively used as a woodcarver's canvas.

The grounds of Wallington Hall were partly laid out by Capability Brown. The lawn outside the house contains four curious stone gargoyle or griffin heads. They originate from Bishopsgate, one of the city gates in London. It is thought they were brought north as ballast in one of Sir Wiliam Blackett’s ships which worked between London and Newcastle.

Four dragon's heads lie on the lawn at Wallington, they are believed to be part of a group that once adorned Bishopsgate, guarding an entrance to the city of London.

It seems all the rain we've been having of late has not impacted on the summer floral displays at this National Trust property in Northumberland.

Since a visit to Wallington Hall in Northumberland over the Easter weekend, I thought I'd captured all of Tommy Craggs' chainsaw sculptures, but I understand there are more!

I've photographed his fabulous larger-than-life owl (which I'll post in due course, but I've learned there is another sculpture, which I missed. Another visit is on the cards!
