Waste Management

Sun Valley, CA

10/29/16

Recently WMmaster626 and I went filming in the Sun Valley area and afterwards went to Waste Management Sun Valley for a tour.

Big thank you to everyone at Sun Valley for the great tour. And thank you WMmaster626 for arranging it.

Front of one of the WMX shirts from Filiberto. Really neat how it says WMX instead of Waste Management on it.

Selkent route 273: Petts Wood Station - Lewisham, Tesco

Approaching Lewisham Station (G)

Selkent retained route 273 from Catford (TL) on 14 January 2017. New E20D MMCs were specified in the contract renewal, the 8.9m batch 36622-31 entering service a month later.

Route 273 is one that requires shorter buses to tackle the tight turns and narrow roads of suburban Lewisham, the route undertaking many direction changes in the process. I normally take preference to the shorter variant of the Enviro200 MMC; regardless of how infrequent or unreliable their route may be, the E200 MMC compensates with comfort, both in the smooth ride quality and with the seating. The 273 showed nothing outstanding from these expectations of the bus type.

However, I didn't really enjoy these vehicles as much as I've done so with examples from other operators, particularly from Arriva. They did not stand out from the longer variant, comparable with the new buses for Catford compatriot route 380, like the shorter version usually does. Therefore, route 273 is one which is more interesting for exploring the depths of Lewisham presented by no other route rather than for its buses.

I don't know where to begin, I will start by saying I was shocked and in disbelief to see a Sun Valley truck in Baldwin Park territory. I was driving on the 210 and all the sudden I see what looks like 2 Volvo Wittkes going Eastbound (far away from Sun Valley) on the 210. Waste Management of Baldwin Park services the area and they do not have any so I immediately knew the 2 trucks were Sun Valley Wittkes. One was 203030 and I could not see the other trucks number. I immediately called WMmaster626 who was going to Baldwin Park and told him what happened. He headed to the Waste Management Azusa MRF which is close to Baldwin Park, to see if the 2 trucks went to Azusa to unload. Unfortunately, they must have continued on the 210 eastbound because WMmaster626 waited at the MRF and never saw the trucks exit. We speculate they might have been headed towards WM Chino or San Bernardino (where many El Cajon trucks went) but we are not sure. Unfortunately it is unlikely 203030 and the other Volvo Wittke will be going back to Sun Valley since they were set to be retired and Sun Valley has received dozens of new Autocar Amreps. WMmaster626 and I saw 203030 several times at the Sun Valley yard so it was amazing to see 203030 on possibly it's last day on the road leaving Sun Valley for the final time.

If you look closely, you can see the burgundy stripes on the Volvo.

This exact spot on the freeway has been a goldmine for me. I have seen a City of Los Angeles McNeilus Meridian demo, Phoenix MR Leach Rear Loader getting towed, Sacramento County Condor Amrep getting towed to probably Burrtec or UWS, 2 Burgundy WMX of Inland Valley (Moreno Valley) storage containers, a Allied Waste Wittke and Rapid Rail body probably from Northern California, old Volvo Heil belonging to Agro Min food Waste in Chino and this Amrep Curotto on route to its new home 6 years ago (www.flickr.com/photos/35079443@N04/5761617813/in/dateposted/).
