wisdom Dove Speaks
1992
Oil on sewn canvas, tied and stretched on a
wooden window frame, framed in rough oak
This is a combination of Jim Hansford’s
shed window frame, Steph’s raw oak
outside frame, fine woven cotton and
rough canvas, variously tied and streched.
It was painted in 1992 when I was Artist in
Residence for the United Reformed Church Forum conference. Themed ‘Roots and Branches’ the conference was planned to look at the roots of the URC; I couldn’t help but go back to the roots of our faith altogether. To me, the right side is rather like the knowledge of God as shared before Jesus Christ and the left, that knowledge as made human in the world.
The Spirit (Wisdom Dove) is everywhere.
This is a statement of that which I have always felt held me and as a statement of what I always believed. Indeed, the detail of the Holy Spirit/Wisdom Dove speaking into the human ear is so meaningful to me that it gave rise to the name of my Breathing Light Exhibiton and is now the image I use as an artist’s
logo.
The retreat "Awakening the Wisdom Within" was concluded with the #ValedictorySession. The dignitaries BK Dr. Nirmala (Chairperson, IT wing), Mr. Manoj Panda (TCS Head), Mr. Piyush Goel, Brother BK Yashwant (HQ co-ordinator, IT Wing) and Sister BK Varsha(Senior Rajyoga Teacher) were a part of the session. Everybody shared their experience about what they have learnt from the retreat and their take-away from the same. It is an immense pleasure to know how the retreat has benefited IT professionals. Further the participants said, #spiritualknowledge & #meditation #empowers us to be #positive, #calm, #happy, #compassionate, maintain a balance between work & life and have a #healthy mind, body & relationships. #bkitwing
Theme for the challenge of November 2010 of the Dutch "The Girls Next Door" forum was "time". My inspiration came from wisdom comes with the ages, with the owl as a symbol for wisdom.
The large, older owl tries to pass its wisdom to the younger, foolish owl. Whether he will listen?

It’s totally normal for people to be terrified at the prospect of oral surgery, but according to dentists in Silver Spring MD, the removal of wisdom teeth is typically quick and completely painless.
Shiva Linga - Phallic Symbol Granite.
Fantastic Stone Lingam said to be from North east India
This must have been tuned or spun round looking at the wear in its lower part, perhaps daily- monthly or yearly in ritual.
Shiva Linga. The linga (phallic emblem of Shiva) symbolizes the great generative force of the universe. It is usually the most sacred object in a temple dedicated to Shiva and is housed in the main sanctum. When plain (simply phallic), the linga represents Shiva in his most abstract form.

Shiva Lingham
Sourced from sacred Pilrimage site of Rishikesh on River Ganges.
The Story of the Shiva Lingam: Shiva saw not sense in the transitory pleasures of life, so he rejected samsara, smeared his body with ash, closed his eyes and performed austerities. Shiva's tapas generated so much heat that his body transformed into a pillar of fire - a blazing lingam that threatened to destroy the whole world. The gods did not know how to control Shiva's fire. Suddenly there appeared a yoni - the divine vessel of the mother-goddess. It caught the fiery lingam and contained its heat, thus saving the cosmos from untimely destruction.
The Linga is also known as Bana Lingams. Possessing this Shivalingam is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bring peace, progeny, luck, wealth, fame and prosperity.
Importance of Narmadeshwar Lingam is mentioned in the Shiva Purana.
It is said that Lord Shiva blesses the place where Narmadeshwar Lingam is kept and worshipped.
Also represents the sacred union of male and female. Yin and Yang.

This is part of a 3 part mural found at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. The mural is called Wisdom, Light and Sound by Lew Lawrie and this is the 'Wisdom' portion. Next time I'm in New York I'll try to get all three. I really love the Art Deco features of Rockefeller Plaza. I was in New York on business and I didn't have a lot of spare time to just capture it all. Maybe next time.

On this day, we honoured the gift of the spiritual teacher by celebrating Gurupurnima: gratitude to all gurus and teachers. We had the unique opportunity to honour our satguru, Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda, who then gave more than 2,500 devotees and followers the opportunity to have an in-person darshan with Him as well!
