Here is another appearance of the fabulous new mittens, this time in their natural habitat; a Canadian outdoor photo adventure.

I just put winter tires on my car last night so when I learned just how icy the roads were today, I was very relieved to know grip wasn't a concern.

We drove out to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, about 20 km from Moose Jaw.

What originally started out as a rainy, sleety, snowy, windy day, actually turned into a really nice afternoon. The sun came out and the wind died down for a bit and it was just great to be outside.

We took in some hills, some buffalo, and then later some chicken before heading home after a great afternoon.

In my back garden, somewhere in Worcestershire, United Kingdom, on Tuesday 15th November 2016.

About the photograph.

This is Marie, known as LadyArtist on the model booking websites, like PurplePort, which is where I found her from. I booked her for a two hours photo-shoot done at my home. The two hours photo-shoot was split into two halves, one hour was done outdoors and as a fashion portraiture photography.

In the photographs, LadyArtist is posing in a cream coloured [UK] size 16 faux fur coat by Dorothy Perkins. She is also posing in her own dark blouse, and blue jeans tucked into her black knee-length boots, and a black leather belt.

She is posing in the back garden, next to the fence and the back wall of my house, lighting was done using daylight.

After those shots, she changed into a different faux fur coat, and we moved over to the back end of the garden for different shots. You can see the other photos in my Albums, it can be found under the title of LadyArtist (Marie)

Or click here to jump to the album: www.flickr.com/photos/132335712@N05/albums/72157719757722...

When the first hour, fashion themed outdoor photo-shoot was done, the next hour was done indoors.

As I am a deaf person with speech impaired, you would think there would be communications difficulties between myself as a photographer, and her as the model. But despite the difficulties, we did get on very well, and had done the photo-shoot without problems. LadyArtist later left a positive review on my PurplePort account.

Sadly she passed away about two years after this photo-shoot, and I was not aware of this until another two years after her passing away, when I saw a memorial message on her profile on the model booking website.

She was a really great model, I had a great time working with her.

Notice: If the photo-shoot was done around the models’ homes, or done at my home, then for safety and privacy, the geotag is removed, and the photos will not be put on the map.

About Dorothy Perkins.

In 1909, it was founded under the original name of H. P. Newman & Co, in Leeds, United Kingdom, as a drapery shop. It was later said to be a straw hat manufacturer, as the details is not very well recorded.

By 1916, they changed the trading name to Dorothy Perkins, and they opened as a specialist ladies’ outfitters shop in 1919. Over the years, they adverted themselves as specialist in millinery, lingerie, corsets, and hosiery. They also adverted selling ladies’ hats.

The company opened a chain of shops centred in London, and by 1939, they had about 75 shops, and the company grew thanks to Alan Farmer who joined in 1925, and took over in 1940.

The company was floated on the stock exchange market in 1958, and by that time, they had 130 shops, as well as expanding the range of ladies’ wear.

Alan Farmer continued to expand the company in the 1960s, by the end of the decade, they grew to 275 outlets, including a 70% shares in the boutique company called Bibi.

During the 1970s, the company was bought by the Burton Group plc, later became known as the Arcadia Group Ltd, which was owned by Tina Green, the wife of Philip Green.

Arcadia Group went into administration around November 2020, and later the brand, but not the shops, was bought by Boohoo, and is now an online shopping website.

In the Woods somewhere in Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, on Tuesday 31st January 2018.

About this photograph.

This is Janey, a British model living in Yorkshire, England, whom I booked for a two-hours photo-shoot. The first half as outdoors, and the second half was indoors.

Here, she is modelling in a casual winter outfit. She is wearing an animal print faux fur coat from Roman Originals, in size XL, which is roughly UK dress size 20. Along with the fur coat, she is wearing her own dark colour top with white dots, her own blue jeans tucked into a pair of under-knee length, flat heeled boots. Janey is also wearing a light coloured scarf with pictures of birds all over the scarf. She is also modelling with her own tan coloured suede handbag.

She is posing and showing off the casual winter style, in some woods near her home, during a typical cold and damp English January weather. There wasn’t any snow around at that time, but there was some sunlight through the trees. The ground is not that bad, not very muddy, still good firm enough.

About the overall subject.

Roman Originals was established in Birmingham, in 1957. It started as a family owned business manufacturing ladieswear for many shops. They manufacture a wide range of outfits, including daywear, eveningwear, workwear, and outerwear. They design and manufacture various women’s outfits for all ages and of various sizes, from 10 to 22.

In 1998, the company opened their first retail shop so they would sell their own clothes, and over the years, they expanded to about 150 shops in the United Kingdom, as well as still trading with department stores.

Some years later, they renamed their company to simply known as Roman, but still trading as Roman Originals PLC.

The Old Station, off the A446, near Tintern, Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom. Tuesday 2nd February 2016.

The photograph.

Sally, a model booked for an outdoor photo-shoot, is seen here modelling in her own blue jeans tucked into her own flat-heeled below-knee length boots with side zippers. She is also modelling a size XL/16 Brave Soul brand leopard-print faux fur jacket with a hood. Here she is posing next to two old but restored carriages at The Old Station, Tintern, during the typical British winter.

Brave Soul.

Brave Soul is a British fashion brand established in 1972 by the company Whispering Smith, and is the UK’s largest distributor of fashion to high street shops and to online stores worldwide. It grew from a small fashion brand to a global brand offering the best of British design and street style.

Whispering Smith was founded in Manchester in 1967. It started as a family-owned business, and grown to one of the largest suppliers of young fashion. They also have two more brands, and their own wholesales warehouse.

The Old Station.

The Old Station was a former railway station near the town of Tintern, on the long since disused Wye Valley Railway line. The line was a 15 miles long railway line running between the towns of Chepstow and Monmouth in Wales. It opened in 1876, was operated by the Great Western Railway often abbreviated as GWR, until it was taken over by British Rail which then closed the line in 1964.

The rail station was bought and refurbished into a café and exhibition, it is open to the general public. Monmouthshire Country Council bought a couple of old carriages which were refurbished as gift shop, tourism information, and an exhibition. The two carriages are displayed on what is left of the old rail tracks.

The Project.

I booked Sally for a two-hours photo-shoot project, which was to be split into two parts. The first part was to be a winter fashion photography, and the second part was to be fur fetish photography. Before meeting up for the photo-shoot, I was in email communications with her and requested that she wears some casual outfit, specifically the jeans tucked into boots style, she was to bring a few change of her own tops or blouses, and that I would bring along some of the faux fur coats.

The project was to double as both a stand-alone range of photos, and as part of a graphic design work. What I mean is that the photos can be stand-alone, like just simply the photos displayed on their own, such as framed on a wall or posted online (like Flickr), or that they can be imported into some graphic design work I may be doing, like creating a fashion catalogue.

As I have been a very busy full-time single parent and carer, my photography and graphic design skills were getting rusty. Thankfully as the kids were much older and attending school, I could be able to get to try to do some work for myself, and attempt to refresh my skills, plus build up a portfolio.

I had not been able to find a suitable outdoor location, however it was Sally who lived in Wales, suggested The Old Station, near Tintern, and it was suitable for my projects.

To see some more of Sally, you can view her in this album: www.flickr.com/photos/132335712@N05/albums/72157719210845529

Alex and I had previous worked together earlier this Summer for her Senior Portraits and I immediately knew I'd love to work with her again in the future. I got to try out a brand new location which I am pretty darn excited about! Lots of color, texture, and it's perfect during these dreary winter months. Really excited about this set!

The Old Station, Tintern. Near the village of Tintern (Tyndym), in the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales (Cymru), United Kingdom, on Tuesday 2nd of February 2016.

About the photograph and the photo-shoot.

This is Sally, a model living in Wales, whom I booked for a couple of hours outdoor photo-shoot. I got in touch with Sally through one of the online modelling website, I can’t remember which ones, but could have been PurplePort or another website. After the pre-shoot communications, we arranged to meet up at The Old Station, Tintern.

She arrived with her husband and their little girl, and they were the first to arrive, then enjoyed a little bit of a day out in the grounds while they waited for me to arrive on time. When I parked my car, got out, and was looking for her, and she spotted me, so she waved me over.

The photo-shoot was split into two sections, one hour each. The first section was mainly fashion like photo-shoot, right next to the old railway carriages, those are the photos from the first section.

Here, she is wearing a casual style winter outfit, which is of a tan coloured faux fur jacket bought from a charity shop, along with her own sweater, her own blue jeans, and her flat heeled boots.

I asked her for flat heeled footwear because most women are not likely to wear high heels in such places like this, especially with uneven ground, and that she’s supposed to be dressed in a more casual style. Also, I asked for her to tuck her jeans into her boots for this kind of fashion style.

Here, she is posing next to an old and refurbished railway carriage which is a static display on what is left of the railway tracks, outside the old railway station. For more details about the railway station, feel free to read the article under the heading of About the location below.

Most of the starting shots were of her standing on the ground, in front of the carriage, before moving onto the platform, where she pose right next to the carriage with her feet on the carriage’s buffer.

The photos of her standing in front of the carriage were taken with the lens at various lengths and my position also at various distance from her, hence different background sizes, and different looks.

After those shots, she changed to a different fur jacket, and posed next to a different carriage. You can find them in the album titled Sally.

About the location.

The Old Station or Tintern railway station, is a former railway station on the Wye Valley Railway line that ran approximately 15 miles between the towns of Monmouth to the north and Chepstow in the south.

The station opened in November 1878 and was one of the four stations along the line, and the railway company chose to build a large station as they were hoping to generate more income from tourist visiting the nearby Tintern Abbey.

The Wye Valley Railway line was a railway line along the lower Wye Valley and often crossed over between Wales and England due to the River Wye being used as the border between the two countries.

The railway line was in use between 1876 to 1964, and was operated by Great Western Railway (GWR) until taken over by British Rail (BR). Once BR took over the railway line, they reviewed its viability and stopped passenger services in 1959, while allowing goods transportation to continue until the line closed in 1964.

The rail station was bought by the local country council, refurbished it into a café and exhibition, then opened to the public. Monmouthshire County Council later bought a couple of old carriages, which were refurbished as gift shop, tourism information, and an exhibition. The two carriages are displayed on what’s left of the rail tracks.

My best model, Belén. My wife.

Mi mejor modelo, Belén. Mi esposa.

Here's a shot of my good friend Ally. We went into the heart of downtown Regina, Saskatchewan and had some photo fun with a few packs of sparklers.

What was cool about this area is the section of automated lights affixed to the art installation in the middle of the street.

This is casting the nice cyan lights from camera left. At other times they were mainly flashing red which was far too much saturation with her jacket being red as crimson.

I opened up wide open to get a thin DoF, her face slightly blurred but the sparkler is still nice and sharp.

One of my favorite shots of one of my favorite people.

Near the Newport City Footbridge over the River Usk, in the city of Newport (Welsh: Casnewydd), Gwent, Wales, United Kingdom, on Friday 29th January 2016.

Photos were taken opposite the Friars Walk Shopping Centre, and the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, next to the A4042 known as Usk Way. It is also near the University of South Wales, Newport City Campus, which can be seen in the background of photos 5 and 7.

About this photograph.

Lulu, a model booked for a two-hours outdoors photo-shoot, is wearing a typical women’s winter outfit. She is seen posing in a size XL animal print faux fur coat from Roman Originals, along with her own dark blue jeans tucked into her own brown flat-heeled knee-length boots with full length zippers. She is also wearing a casual top under the fur coat, not seen in the photos. The weather was gloomy with light winds hence her hair is sometimes seen flying in the wind.

At that time of the photo-shoot, I had an idea for a graphic design project, which was to create a non-existence fictional television series DVD case cover (or as Apple’s iTunes Store would call it “album art”) and a DVD boxset. For this, I would prefer to use my own photographs to go into my own design, rather than using stock photographs.

The idea is that the leading character, named Kimberley, would be someone juggling between her personal life at home, and her job working for the police. The plot of the stories is mainly crime or murder mystery and detective drama, with her family and relationship problems as a sub-plot.

So I asked Lulu, to pose as if the leading character is lost in thoughts on the subject of her personal problems, and of the police investigation. Lulu did a great way of posing for the kind of photographs I needed, and thankfully the gloomy damp weather seems to give a better illustration for the photos I needed.

About the subject(s).

Roman Originals was originally established in 1957 in Birmingham. The family owned business started as a ladieswear manufacturing company, making various ladies outfits including daywear, eveningwear, workwear, and outerwear. They design and made women’s outfits for all ages and of various sizes from 10 to 22.

In 1998, Roman Originals opened their first retail shop, and over time, expanded to a chain of about 150 shops in the United Kingdom. They later renamed to simply Roman, but still trading as Roman Originals Plc.

Kimberley is simply a title for a fictional crime/police story I came up with, and used this as a base for a graphic design project. The project was to create a (non-existence) fictional television series DVD case cover and a DVD Boxset packaging.

For more information about it, and you can view the graphic design work, here…

Boxset DVD version: www.flickr.com/photos/132335712@N05/51959995499/in/datepo...

While the photographs were imported into Adobe InDesign as part of the packaging design (see above links for the InDesign project), the photographs can also be used on their own, simply as stand-alone photographs for mounting on the wall, or for showing online like on Flickr.

File: 2016005-0067
