I will post two or three more shots from my trip to Norway in June the rest of the images from that trip will have to join my back catalogue of travel shots. If everything goes to plan I will be back in the Norwegian Arctic in December this year. Mary and I have booked a short trip to the Arctic so we are going to have to purchase some thermals I guess . We enjoyed the midnight sun so we feel we ought to try out the Polar Night. There is always the chance, fingers crossed that we might get a sighting of the Northern lights, Tromso is supposed to be a good spot for them.
Anyway there will be no images like this in December this was taken on the day of the summer solstice it was a perfect day. This is an image of Austnesfiord just north of Svolvar in the Lofoten Islands.

I had my CT scan last Monday and am still awaiting the results. It was no fun at all not eating for 48 hours. I would love to say I dropped a few pounds but, like Kaiser, I remain well padded. Another raining weekend ahead so I will be surprised if we get out

The Andean Motmot, as the English name implies, is the Andean representative of the "Blue-crowned Motmot" complex. For many years, all members of this group were considered to be conspecific, but this group now is reclassified as representing five different species. The Andean Motmot occurs in humid montane forests of the Andes mountains of South America, from Colombia south to Bolivia. Andean motmot is a big bird about 50 cm from beak to tail.
These birds often sit still, and in their dense forest habitat can be difficult to see, despite their size. They eat small prey such as insects and lizards, and will also regularly take fruit.

It was strange yesterday, the sun never broke through and we were shrouded in a cloak of fog which made the day very cold. Luckily the visit from the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister went well, an awe had a great opportunity to raise the profile of the work for the High Brown Fritillary. Everything will be alright is by The Killers, let's hope they will be.

This tree is the epitome of the will to survive. Otherwise gone including bark and leaves, this old tree still hangs on to a couple of branches that have some life left in them.
Roadside Begging Coyote on Panamint Valley Road. These always cause a morality conflict for me - it's sad to see, especially when they have the youngsters out there learning to live like this also, but how else are you going to be within 20 -30 feet of a Coyote for as long as you want? We never feed them, but obviously plenty of folks do or they wouldn't be doing this.

Port Jefferson is a beautiful, historic town located on the North Shore of Long Island where the smell of salt in the air and the sound of the Long Island Ferry is never too far in the distance. This waterfront town was settled in the 1600s as a rural town, but transitioned into a shipbuilding center in the 1800s.
Many of the historic buildings and homes still standing in Port Jefferson belonged to prominent sailors and shipbuilders in the area. Visitors to the town can still take in a slice of history at buildings like the Village Center. The Village Center was formerly a shipyard, where builders worked tirelessly to create and immediately launch ships into the Long Island Sound.
Today, Port Jefferson is widely known as a popular tourist spot in Suffolk County, as well as a transport hub thanks to the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, which takes hundreds of passengers to and from Connecticut each day. Port Jeff is busiest in the summer, but it also draws many tourists for unique events like the Charles Dickens Festival, which is held every December.
.......will be me in a couple of days time, yippee! For those of you that have landed at Funchal Airport, you'll know that it is a hair-raising experience as the runway is extremely short & is classed as the 3rd most dangerous airport in the world. It's well worth it though to be able to visit the beautiful island of Madeira.
This will probably be my last full day on flickr as I'm busy preparing for my trip so if I don't have chance again I'd like to wish you all a wondeful New Year & all the very best for 2012!
