Every now and then sis in law (J) and I get together and cook. We both pick a few recipies we'd like to try, then do a lot of shopping, talking, laughing and see how far we get with the cooking.
J. bought me this lovely set of amuse-glasses and spoons together with an amuse-cookingbook, so ofcourse my first project was to make an amuse, to start off our evening meal.
As J. was going to show me how to make her amazingly fast, simple, and delicious sodabread, we decided to accompany it by a thick soup and a salad.
Wednesday's meal;
Amuse - Watercress/smoked trout mousse
Salad - Strawberries and spinach with a poppy and sesame seed dressing, sprinkled with feta cheese and almonds
Soup - Corn, kidneybean and chicken, spiced with hot pepper and sprinkled with cheese
Bread - Irish non-yeast sodabread

Judson Arts Wednesdays
The Judson Arts Wednesdays setup is simple: No proselytizing, no processed food, no cover charge; just free food, free art, and open space.
We believe that, just as food sustains the body, art sustains the soul.
We also believe that artists have the potential to change us by serving as our modern day prophets; they show us where we’ve been, they show us who we are, and they show us what we could become. We don’t take ourselves, the food, or the art too seriously, and that’s how it all thrives.
So, every Wednesday, Judson opens its doors to all and dissolves the barrier between artist and audience. Each free evening offers artists the time and space to tell their stories, and gives audiences the chance to eat, drink, and co-create with the artists and with one another.

That's a real life Victrola on my right, a bhodran at my shoulder. Went to my first ever Ash Wednesday service. It was a really neat experience.
today at work a small plane crashed into the building directly next to the one i work in. our building was immediately evacuated and when i left the dock there was soot and debris kind of wafting through the air. there were more helicopters, firetrucks, ambulances, police boats, firemen, policemen, reporters, co-workers, and people kind of overall frantic than i've ever seen. to say that it was a surreal experience is a pretty major understatement. aside from being pretty shaken, i am perfectly fine. i am home with my beautiful family with a firmer appreciation of how fortunate i am. sadly there will be many families deeply affected by what happened today at 2:45pm. to those people i send my absolute condolences. i am truly sorry for the losses that they have suffered. my thoughts are with them.
