It was my first time at Myakka River State Park located above Naples in SW Florida. I camped there which gave me the opportunity to photograph earlier than their 8am opening time. There were several Black Skimmers working the mouth of the river and I liked the particular pose this one gave me. They are contact feeders, dragging their lower mandible through the water with reflexes fast enough to clamp on a fish immediately upon contact, bending their head under them to absorb the impact and maybe provide some microseconds of time to secure their prey. It’s amazing they don’t break their necks on hard objects, but I’ve never seen even one with a broken bill; although I suspect it happens. The massif de l'esterel are very nice uplands in a large part made of red porphyr, a vulcanic rock. It used to produce dyes out of it. And it was and is a very popular building material.
It is well known that the lakes in the Upper Engadine freeze at an altitude around 1800 metres in winter, and I wanted to experience this for myself. I travelled there in mid-February in the most beautiful weather - and it was far too warm for the time of year! But the Lake Sils was frozen and I - like many others - hiked across it to the mouth of the Aua da Fedoz. There, however, the lake was open and formed gorgeous ice sculptures. I just had to make sure that the ice under my feet was stable enough, a cold bath would have been a bit unpleasant...
The first house was build in the thirteenth century as a hunting lodge used by the counts and dukes of Gelre. The house was named 'Pauwenburcht' (Peacock Castle) because of the white peacocks they kept there. The dukes of Gelre used to wear the feathers on their helmets.
The present house was build in 1905 on the foundations of a house dating from the seventeenth century.
Staverden Castle is build on the foundations of a seventeenth century house.
At the backside of the house lies a small island in a pond. On the the island you can find the tomb of Eleonora. This Eleonora lived at Wildenborgh Castle, one of the eight castles of Vorden. She had a lover, who went on a crusade in the Holy Land. When he was away, another man wanted to gain her by force. When her lover returned home, he was killed by his rival. Eleonora wanted to escape this evil man and fled to Staverden, where a mighty knight lived, who gave her protection. She stayed there for the rest of her unhappy life, always dressed in black.
After her death she was buried on the island in the pond. On moonlit nights, the black lady is seen there, walking to and fro on the island, wringing her hands and lamenting about her lost love.
Tutankhamen, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who was the last of his royal family to rule during the end of the 18th dynasty The legend of Tutankhamun captured imaginations globally when his tomb was unearthed by British explorer Howard Carter and financier Lord Carnarvon in 1922.

ein schöner Tag in Cuxhaven mit beeindruckenden Wolkengebilden, die sich bei absoluter Windstille bei Flut im Wasser spiegelten.
This photo was taken at the same location as the previous photo of Futami bay and port. This is a northwestward view from Denshinyama (電信山).
Smaller islands in the sea are Nishijima (西島), Hitomarujima (人丸島) and Hyoutanjima (瓢箪島) from left to right.
The straits, width of more or less 800m, is called Anijima Seto (兄島瀬戸) or the Anijima straits, which is beautifully blue but notoriously dangerous due to the fast current as observed in the photo.

I was bemoaning the fact that I've never been in the right place at the right time to photograph this train. Then, there it was, racing to Sheringham. It's the North Norfolk Railway, known as the Poppy Line. Straight from the camera
I was walking by one of our black-capped chickadee nest boxes in the woods at Lake Meyer Park today when I noticed some eyes staring back at me from the house entrance hole - and it definitely was not a chickadee. Once the black-capped chickadees moved out, this comely gray treefrog moved in! Its got a nice cozy cabin in the woods there.
I was so surprised by meeting the tea terraces while we went hiking to the Golden Orange Tree Mountain trail last Sunday. It is a very original forest with very narrow and difficult paths. We even encountered a Taiwanese(Formosa) Black bear that day. To find this tea terrace, I felt I seemed to go to the wrong world. :-) How those farmers go so far here to plant them everyday by walk. That is why the Taiwanese Oolong tea is so fresh and nice to taste. :-)

I was going back through my bug photos from last year, looking for a good one to add tonight since there's not much new happening out in nature right now here in the local area, when I came across this photo of a white-tailed deer fawn that I found out in the forest last spring while photographing insects. I'd forgotten that I even took the photo since I download all my bug photos into special files and wait until winter to look at them and then try to figure out what I found. I'm positive that I photographed this fawn that stood up at my feet with a macro lens
An overcast day was not what I was hoping for but at least there was some movement in the clouds to capture!
I will be visiting Mwnt again for another go soon!
The Church of the Holy Cross at Mwnt, Ceredigion, Wales, is a parish church and Grade I listed building dating probably from the 13th century. The building was restored in 1853 and again after storm damage in 1917. A 1912 photograph shows the south windows in different positions.
Eagles - "Hotel California" lyrics
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "
This was a drive by shooting. We were driving back from Whistler, and there are such amazing views along the way, but hardly any viewpoints. And the best views are ones where you can't stop. I've tried shooting as a moving passenger many times, and most often, the images are just a blur. This one wasn't as blurry, so I'll take it....

It was interesting and entertaining to watch the feeding behaviours of both the 'i'iwi and the 'amakihi (endemic Hawaiian honeycreepers). Very flexible necks and often hanging off a branch. They pry flowers (like this māmane) open with their beak, then use their tongue to lap up the sweet liquid at the flower's base.
“It's always times like these when I think of you and I wonder if you ever think of me.”
― Vanessa Carlton
It was established as Queen's College (in honour of Queen Victoria) in 1841, by the PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of Canada in association with the Church of Scotland. Classes began on 7 March 1842 in a rented building with two professors and 10 students.
This image almost never happened! I was heading back to the car as had to get back for work (and running late lol) and just decided to turn round and look back up the track, glad I did now as the wood was still with the hanging mist and the bare trunks that the path skirts around just looked amazing. Taken at The Hangings, Whiteleaf, Buckinghamshire.
The was from 1926 until 1932 US Highway Rt 66. In 1932 a new alignment of the mother road was completed and by passed the old bridge. The new alignment is back behind the bridge with the car light trails going along it
Yesterday was such a sunny and warm day and perhaps even a bit overcast.
Despite this I decided it's may first week of vacation and I need to head out and if I'm lucky even find some nice flowers to photograph.
I loved how this long structure created a wonderful bokeh despite causing some of the florals to be a bit blurry.
I love the bokeh and all the colors around it creating a perfect Summer atmosphere.
Have a lovely Wednesday!

For me it is – and I think it's the same for most of you – every time I stand, walk, run on a wide beach, feel the wind, smell the salt and hear the sound of the waves ...
And you probably also know this: "Clouds arise because the sun evaporates water from seas, lakes, rivers or streams and rises as water vapor. It's colder up there and the water vapor then turns into tiny water droplets that are so light that they can float." Smart sentences ... Sometimes you just want to float away with the elements :-)

This was a grain storage facility for Budweiser back in the day. I caught it just as a storm was moving in, and loved the silhouette. I also really liked the reflection of sunlight in the windows.
Solovetsky Monastery was an another great attraction for me for years. It was found in 1429 and used to be a place of strong people, full of spirit and faith. For a long time in XX century, these islands in White Sea were the place of GULAG. For all the Russians this place represents the power and the fortitude of the spirit.

We visited this place in the best time of the year, when the sky is clear and the temperature is higher than 0 Celcius:-) Here is the early morning panorama of 3 shots, hdr. Original size - 7796x4210 pics.
Thank you for all the comments and favs, my friends.
This was a very rushed hike to see Goldstream park on the way to the ferry. Would we be late or would we make our ferry. After waiting for a rather large lady that I didn't want to mess with finish her swim I managed to get a quick shot in and bolt for the ferry. Yes it looks like an Elephant!! Thanks for looking. Kris.
Todays sunset was magic! The clouds were breathtaking and at one point it seemed as if the sun had a friend!!!
It was unbelievably beautiful. Just had to share. Might even put put some more photos of it when I get them ready.
hope you like them.
Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) female
Mama Frogmouth resting in the shade on this day in 2019. I noted on the file that the temperature on that day was 44°C (111°F) Dad was sitting on the nest. By comparison today is a glorious 25°C (77°F)
For those not familiar with the Frogmouth, they are not an Owl, being most closely related to the Nightjar Family.
Sadly they didn't return to this nest site last year or this year.
