I want to imagine a place, where this never ending story, can be explored. A place where we can be protected. Protected to love. Protected.
Why do we repeat this over and over.
NO NO NO!
misty morning at the ponds..... goose and duck on tour...."how are you yellow fellow?"
Columbia Basin Railroad SD9s 608, 166, 171, and 12 along with GP9u 2274 and SD19-1 652 cross a wooden trestle as they approach the yard at Warden, WA, with a sizeable Connell Turn.
First air show of 2022! Cloudy and cool, but at least the rain held off.
This Spitfire has previously been displayed with ‘clipped’ wings. Removing the wingtips improves manoeuvrability at lower levels, but at the expense of performance at higher altitudes. It is nice to see this Spitfire being displayed with the famous elliptical wing .
Old Warden, August 2020
Always a treat to see this gorgeous aircraft.
Five aircraft of this design were built, 3 taking part in the England to Australia air race of 1934. This red aircraft actually won. Of the two others, G-ACSP 'Black Magic' is currently being restored to flying condition, and a non-flying replica of green G-ACSR has recently been completed at the de Havilland museum in London Colney. Maybe one day we'll get to see the three of them together?

A rather old looking corvid on overwatch.
I may not be able to upload for a few days as I am taking my imminently failing drive for some data recovery. I need all fingers crossed as I have chosen a local service, with good reviews, that is considerably cheaper than other quotes that I have received online. I know that is a risk but I simply can't afford the fees that other data recovery companies are quoting. Most of my work is backed up at least, it is just this past 12 months that I risk losing. Still, scary, and it has been an important 12 months in my journey.
I'll be around to enjoy your photos whatever happens.
Take care everyone.
A shot from the archives and taken at Old Warden Airfield , home of the Shuttleworth Collection .
Details of the plane taken from The Shuttleworth Collection webpage --
G-EBWD has been based at one aerodrome (Old Warden) for longer than any other aeroplane in aviation history. A record that is unlikely to ever be beaten!
The aircraft was built in 1928 and used by the Brooklands School of Flying. Richard Shuttleworth learnt to fly in ‘BWD which he purchased in 1932 as his first aeroplane. It was originally powered by a 65hp Cirrus I engine but in 1933 it was re-engined with a 105hp Cirrus Hermes II.
It escaped being impressed into the RAF during the Second World War and survived in storage at Old Warden. Since the war, and performs regularly at flying displays at Old Warden.

I first came across the Biggles joke in 'Monty Python's Brand New Bok' (sic) in 1973 - and, child that I am, it still raises a titter after all these years. And as Frankie Howerd would doubtlessly have said, 'Never resist a titter - you never know when another will come your way'.
The SE5A was a major British fighter from WW1 - the 'Spitfire' of its day. A great aircraft, but completely unfunny in every respect. I haven't read a Biggles story for many decades, and I dread to think how politically incorrect those novels from the 1930s must now be.
After several movements on the yard tracks building their southbound train, CBRW 1747 south pulls up to the 'S' curve at county road 10 SE. This location is just south of the Warden yard. There is an berm on the east side of the tracks, with a large rock pile on it. The pile seemed like the perfect location to shoot from to maximize elevation above the tracks. While perched on the pile, waiting for the train, I noticed a recently shed snake skin from a girthy rattlesnake wedged between the rocks at the base of the pile. The next ten minutes until the train departed passed very slowly for me...
Looking over the reed-filled pond to Smailholm Tower. This scheduled ancient monument is a peel tower sitting atop Lady Hill in the Scottish Borders; dating to the early 1400s, this watchtower defended a volatile border between Scotland and England. Smailholm is now maintained by Historic Scotland.
The 2023 Air Show season has now drawn to a close in the UK. September at Old Warden certainly provided the best weather as evidenced by this beautifully presented Spitfire diving out of a perfect blue sky.
No good for SSC this week but it is better clouds than we have been treated to this week for our sky shot . If nothing happens tomorrow I will be stuck with quite a mundane shot from last weekend . With the impending storm heading our way I do not hold out much hope !!
Never mind , it gives me a chance to air this shot ( one of many ) of the Tiger Moth giving us photographers a great little airshow .
Indeed , the Tiger Moth K2585 flew round giving us a top down view of the plane as it did it's turn . I am not positive but it might be a " Wing Over " manoeuvre . From this angle we can see the superb paint design on the wings .
Taken on our photo workshop day and the eleven of us there that day got to stand well out into the airfield air-side for an extra close view as the plane flew around for our benefit !
All this took place at Old Warden airfield , home to the Shuttleworth Collection with Darren Harbour there to share his aviation photography skills .
Fantastic to see these ~80 year old aircraft roaring around the sky. It was a great display on Sunday - these pictures hardly convey the noise and thrill.
Four Columbia Basin Railway SD9s, a GP9u, and an SD19-1 thunder uphill past an old wooden grain elevator on their way toward Bruce and ultimately Warden, WA.
