This is a genuine Russian cannon from the Crimean War (1853-1856). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War

Today Mr Putin is deploying far deadlier weapons against Ukrainian civilians. Illegal weapons such as Thermobaric and Cluster bombs. All in the name of an illegal war to steal another country.

Mr Putin if you want to save the world from disaster, STOP THIS WAR! Muzzle your weapons like this cannon from the Tsarist era.

Omaha, commonly known as Omaha Beach, was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, during World War II. 'Omaha' refers to a section of the coast of Normandy, France, facing the English Channel 8 kilometers (5 mi) long, from east of Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to west of Vierville-sur-Mer on the right bank of the Douve River estuary and an estimated 150-foot (45 m) tall cliffs. Landings here were necessary to link the British landings to the east at Gold with the American landing to the west at Utah, thus providing a continuous lodgement on the Normandy coast of the Bay of the Seine. Taking Omaha was to be the responsibility of United States Army troops, with sea transport, mine sweeping, and a naval bombardment force provided predominantly by the United States Navy and Coast Guard, with contributions from the British, Canadian, and Free French navies.

The primary objective at Omaha was to secure a beachhead of eight kilometres (5.0 miles) depth, between Port-en-Bessin and the Vire River, linking with the British landings at Gold to the east, and reaching the area of Isigny to the west to link up with VII Corps landing at Utah. Opposing the landings was the German 352nd Infantry Division. Of the 12,020 men of the division, 6,800 were experienced combat troops, detailed to defend a 53-kilometer (33 mi) front. The German strategy was based on defeating any seaborne assault at the water line, and the defenses were mainly deployed in strongpoints along the coast. The untested American 29th Infantry Division, along with nine companies of U.S. Army Rangers redirected from Pointe du Hoc, assaulted the western half of the beach. The battle-hardened 1st Infantry Division was given the eastern half. The initial assault waves, consisting of tanks, infantry, and combat engineer forces, were carefully planned to reduce the coastal defenses and allow the larger ships of the follow-up waves to land.

Very little went as planned during the landing at Omaha. Difficulties in navigation caused the majority of landing craft to miss their targets throughout the day. The defenses were unexpectedly strong, and inflicted heavy casualties on landing U.S. troops. Under heavy fire, the engineers struggled to clear the beach obstacles; later landings bunched up around the few channels that were cleared. Weakened by the casualties taken just in landing, the surviving assault troops could not clear the heavily defended exits off the beach. This caused further problems and consequent delays for later landings. Small penetrations were eventually achieved by groups of survivors making improvised assaults, scaling the bluffs between the most heavily defended points. By the end of the day, two small isolated footholds had been won, which were subsequently exploited against weaker defenses further inland, thus achieving the original D-Day objectives over the following days. Above the lathe, you can see a child operating rather complex machinery. In fact, children were doing the work of grown men. Children of that time grew up quickly — and just as quickly, they aged and wore out

It's hard to say true or false, right or wrong, but what's more brutal than war is entertainment.

Going way back before even the 2003 animated series, the first appearance of Durge and Asajj Ventress was the comic Star Wars: Republic, and it fuckin rocked. I made some figures (inspired by lego. psycho. figures on IG) based on the versions from the comics.

My entry to Wimbes Scenes of War contest, category is obviously Past ;)

I wasn't planning on building anything for May 4th but after seeing all the amazing art people where posting for Star Wars day, I couldn’t help myself.

This droid has been on my to-do list for quite some time. They appear in the video game Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order as enemy hired by the imperial inquisitor to hunt down Jedi Kal Kestis (it also appeared in The Force Awakens outside Maz Kanata's Castle).

They are originally used for loading cargo but these units have been reprogrammed and modified by the Haxion Brood crime syndicate for bounty hunting work.

arrivate in Italia.....

Dedicated to Star Wars fans globally. My daughter told me that I should have posted this on May 4th 😉

" Anti War Ant "

This interesting macro image was captured recently in Keynsham Woods, near to Bristol, England.

The stinging nettle the ant is walking up looks a little like a CND sign! "Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament"

" Is this a magical sign from nature trying to tell up humans something? "

HMM everyone!

Thank you! to everyone who, viewed, commented or favoured my photograph! Cheers!

Peace to all !

“Several officials even suggested that Mr. Biden could return nuclear weapons to Ukraine that were taken from it after the fall of the Soviet Union. That would be an instant and enormous deterrent. But such a step would be complicated and have serious implications.”– New York Times

Rollei IR 400 in Rodinal 1+100, semistand 1 h.

Lith printed on old Kodak Medalist F-3 (single weight FB, thanks Travis!), washed in a warm water bath for about 2 min and then developed in Moersch Easy Lith (15A+15B+H2Oqs800).

Fixed in Moersch ATS alkaline fixer.

Untoned.

2nd print in the bath. Moderate fogging of paper base, hence PS borders.

Pre-dev washing in warm water was a tip from my US Flickr friend Robin, since I previously have had problems with artifacts in homogeneous areas like skies (se below) with this paper, probably due to aged developing agents in the paper emulsion which will be washed away during this process. And I must say that I think it works! Thanks Robin (and Alfred!).

Sweden was "neutral" in WWII. However, we were preparing for the worst. Several "War Airfields" were built and this one (close to where I live) is kept for historical purposes.

The Killin War Memorial is located at the entrance to the village of Killin near the Falls of Dochart.

It commemorates the men and women who fell during the 1st and 2nd World Wars.

My entry to day 5 of Vignweek 2021. The theme of the day was "future," but apparently that includes Star Wars, so I made a Clone Wars MOC.

I'm not really happy with how this one turned out. I was lacking both time and inspiration.

War cracks even the strongest of us. Whether it is a war between nations, groups, people or within ourselves.
