The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortification built over a millennium. Despite popular belief, the wall was not originally constructed to protect against Mongol invaders, but instead built by the various Chinese states to protect their own borders against each other during the Warring State Period in 5th century BC. Most of the original walls was destroyed after Qin conquered all opposing sates and unified the country. The remaining wall was extended into a new northern wall which would protect against the empire against the nomadic Mongols from the north.
The first walls were simple walls made up of rammed earth and stones. By the Ming dynasty in the 16th century more advance techniques were used on the rebuild the walls, bricks, tiles and cut stones.
The MOC depicts the great wall in later age as a young Emperor watches his army march to battle.

Side view of my Wall Doll House that I made this spring (2013) from a Real Good Toys doll house kit. It was very fun and lovely to personalize. Of course it is yet to be decorated. I do have a few miniature pieces, but have not found the time to complete it yet. That will be yet more fun :-)
next to my desk, which used to be part of the old kitchen -- still haven't re-done the walls...
(just messing around with the old pentax lenses & adaptor for the DSLR!)
I can only assume this was a design feature, as it'd be a very lucky crack if not! Thought it made an interesting simple compo anyway.
Some years ago I had available (for free) a few hi-res textures. Now, I´m working on a new couple of texture packs that will be available (not for free) probably next month.
the Great Wall of China at Badaling.
Badaling is the stretch of Wall nearest to Beijing, some 61 km from the outskirts. You can take a tour which can cost $100+ and you get about 90 minutes at the Wall. We took public transport (metro and bus). It cost us less that 5 euros each for the return trip, and buses are every 5 minutes. We had all day to walk and enjoy.
