I've put together a little Shrimp microcontroller circuit (similar to Arduino Uno) to hook up the LED matrix and Bluetooth dongle. Attention data levels are visualised as red LEDs and meditation data levels as green LEDs.

This image captures 15929 fire brigade incidents over the timespan of about 1.5 years in Greece (in the period 2008-2009).
No map projection has been used (The lat / long are linearly mapped to the image space), no special color scheme, there are no fancy fonts or layout.
I felt that these things would lower the impact of the image. Because it is almost "natural" for a visualisation of a country's road network to trace out its shape, but it's somehow disturbing to just stand there and watch that familiar shape pop out of the data in such stark resolution.
The data for this visualisation where obtained from the recently (last couple of years) instated Greek geodata portal.
The dynamics of the fire incidences, that is, taking time as well as place into account, are visible in this video. You can watch there how the frequency of occurence is booming during the summer months (and no, that's not wildfires, that's arson)

Personally, I'm OK with the iPhone storing information about where I've been. It's not like I'm not already tweeting about it, uploading photos to Flickr, reviewing things on Tripadvisor and so on...
One of my biggest challenges as a graphic recorder was to understand and visualize this conference on black holes given by scientists.
The day ended with a fascinating session on how #dataviz helps us to better “see” black holes. Big thanks to Barthélémy von Haller and Jeremi Niedziela from CERN and Oliver James from DNEG (with me on the photo). They guided us through this wonderful journey from the smallest elements of quantum physics to the black holes and their representation in the Interstellar movie. Magnificent presentation that shows that synergies between science and art can increase our knowledge about the unknown.

This one was really neat - you start with a simple line that shows surplus/deficit, then you tilt the chart and see just how complex the data is - all geolocated to cities, to show trade routes, and other factors such as broadban cables. Something very hard to capture on a still photo - once I get the link to where this sits, I'll add, so those interested can have a play!
