Great Egret bird foraging on a hyacinth island in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.
While foraging, the Great Egret - unlike other egrets - likes to stalk by looking down sideways with one eye on its prey.
Gharials, or Fish-eating Crocodiles, at Kalagarh Dam in Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
Three Gharials can be seen in this shot. One adult male is sunbathing on lakeside, while another male can be seen in the water. The third is a juvenile in the shallow part of the lake.
Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) hovering over the water looking for prey on the James River at Lion's Bridge in Newport News, Virginia.
Great Barbet bird perched on a tree near Dalhousie, Himachal.
The sighting of this bird was a very interesting story. I spotted it among trees very close to the trail that was hiking on. But I couldn't get a clear sight through the thick foliage. After a few minutes of following the bird as it hopped around, I sat down on a nearby rock, put my camera down and spent some time quietly sipping the black coffee that I was carrying. Then I heard the bird calling loudly and spotted it on a branch nearby. I guess it was waiting for me to settle and enjoy a bit of my coffee in its company.
Red-vented Bulbul nestlings (baby birds before growth of feathers) at my house in Ludhiana, Punjab.
The nestlings seemed so fragile as the lack of feathers exposed their pink toned soft looking skin. Especially when crying out for food. They would chirp loud and incessantly, raising their head and stretching out to be ready for feeding. One of the parents would then fly in and put food down their throat.

Tricolored heron (Egretta tricolor) stalking and catching a small fish during low tide in Mill Creek at Fort Monroe National Monument in Hampton, Virginia.
Red-vented Bulbul nestlings (baby birds before growth of feathers) at my house in Ludhiana, Punjab.
There were three nestlings in this nest. The nestlings would settle for a few minutes after being fed by one of their parents and then get back to crying for more food. The parents were scampering non-stop between catching food and feeding the hungry little babies.
Changeable Hawk-Eagle bird perched on a dead tree in Dhikala Range of Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
This raptor preys on a wide variety of birds, small mammals and reptiles. This might be one of the factors that make it the most abundantly found hawk-eagle species in its range, from India to South-East Asia.

Common or Eurasian Kestrel bird perched on a dead tree in Dhikala Range of Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
Right after I took this shot, the raptor hunted a smaller bird, and came back on this perch to feed. We were in a bus full of tourists, and already moving away. I shouted out that there was a raptor with a catch, but no one was interested. Most of them were busy looking hopefully for an unlikely tiger in the grassland. Desperate, I tried to lean out of a window for a quick click. It was an impossible angle to get anything. I leaned further out. With the bus rocking about, I nearly fell out. Then Shruti pulled me back in, and ensured that I tried no further antics. A spectacular shot that wasn't to be, but still a story worth telling.
Indian white-eye bird in woods near Andretta village in Kangra valley, Himachal.
This is a hyperactive small bird, which makes very swift hops, giving the appearance of it bouncing from branch to branch. These fast movements, plus its tendency to be in lower and mid level canopy where natural light is low, make it a difficult bird to photograph.
