The pair were foraging on the tree eating wild berries. Great Indian Hornbills dwell in jungles that have a dense canopy. However, they like to nest on tall trees that rise above the surrounding ones. Considering their large frame, this is possibly to allow themselves some open space to take flight.

Along with the reddish tail of a redstart, its most distinguishing trait is the white cap on its black head.

Changeable Hawk-Eagle bird perched on a dead tree in Dhikala Range of Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
This bird is from the crestless subspecies of changeable hawk-eagle, which in India is mostly seen in the foothills of Himalayas.

Grey-hooded Warbler bird in the garden area of The Mirage - Andretta in Himachal.
This is a small leaf warbler bird that dwells in mountain forests. It is known for its striking yellow underbody, and melodious high-pitched warbling song.

Rufous-bellied Niltava bird in woods near Andretta village in Kangra valley of Himachal.
This stunning bird is one of the most beautifully coloured among the flycatcher family. The female, in contrast, is drab with dull brown shades.
Gharial, or Fish-eating Crocodile - a critically endangered species - on lakeside at Kalagarh Dam in Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
The croc seemed to be going for the Stone-Curlew bird, but the bird easily evaded the sneak attack and hopped a distance to safety.

From the time when I was first awed by a fleeting glimpse of this bird diving to catch a river fish to the last year or so during which I have sighted it dozens of times, I have come a long way in my journey of wildlife discovery.

Black-chinned babbler bird among shrubs in Jhirna range of Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
This babbler is easily distinguished by its pale yellowish-brownish colour and black patches on its throat, and between the eyes and beak. It is not a very commonly sighted bird, and is found mostly seen in forests and orchards along the foothills of the Himalayas.

Spotting this bird in the dense buffer forest of Corbett was quite an experience. The predominantly green plumage camouflages the bird quite well. However, the beautiful bright-yellow nape is difficult to miss. The nape is what caught my eye as the bird flew around among the trees. A few minutes of chasing the bird on foot, and I had my shots.

This stork has a distinctive glossy bluish-black head and neck that goes with the bright blue shade of freshwater bodies in which it likes to forage.
Flock of bar-headed geese flying over Pong Lake in Himachal, India.
Pong wetland is the main and preferred wintering destination for bar-headed geese. This year there was an estimated 68% increase in their numbers here. Being upstream compared to other nearby wetlands in the plains, Pong presents a much cleaner and peaceful habitat for migrating birds.

Barred Jungle Owlet in Jhirna range of Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
Jungle Owlet has a heavily barred plumage, which helps camouflage it in dense forests where it likes to dwell. It is most active during the periods of dawn and dusk. It's camouflage and small size make it a difficult bird to sight while perched. Such a sighting requires a bit of luck, like this owlet flying onto its perch directly in front of us.
