Dryden, MI is exactly the place you'd think of when you think of Michigan Farm Lands. Beautiful little community with really nice folks. These pics are from a weekend I spent there, visiting Dana's folks.

'The Textured Surface in Porcelain' - a Visiting Artist Workshop with Bryan Hopkins and Kristen Kieffer
September 15 & 16, 2018
10am - 4pm each day
at Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard
224 Western Ave, Allston, Massachusetts.
Both artists demonstrated a range of surface treatments while sharing stores and their experiences as contemporary ceramic artists.
Bryan Hopkins will talk about and demonstrate pushing porcelain pots to the edge of the rule that form must follow function- that grey area where provocative work exists. He will discuss the importance of developing clay bodies specific to his needs and the importance of collaboration. Bryan will demonstrate his methods for making translucent porcelain pieces (cups, bowls, etc.), as well as how to successfully add hand-built elements to wheel thrown parts to create interesting asymmetric forms, influenced by architecture, historic ceramics, and his urban environment. The use of carving tools and bisque molds and drills to affect surface (increasing translucence and adding content) will be shown.
Kristen Kieffer will discuss embracing play in form and surface, the importance of timing in clay, and studio ergonomics. She will demo altering off the wheel and stamping at “suede,” as well as leather-hard decoration techniques including slip-trailing, slip-sponging, and paper resist.

Geoffrey found that F. Scott and Zelda were buried in nearby Rockville. We had some time to kill, so we took the metro out and grabbed a few shots. Does anyone know why there are pennies on the tombstone?
