Usually I keep them furled under my clothes, but under the right circumstances I free them. This seemed like one of those times.

The Nine-Goddesses pilgrimage was a 10-day adventure led by Paramahamsa Vishwananda that took place in North India. ---- "feast of Our Lady of the Militia", Scicli, 2016 (newsstand votive) -----
---- "festa della Madonna delle Milizie", Scicli (RG), 2016 (edicola votiva) -----

... The Virgin Mary, always depicted with her characteristic candor of a young girl, gentle, petite, sweet .... depicted on a cloud while trampling a tempting serpent ...... now are you able to imagine her fully armed with sword in hand, on a white horse ready to do battle against the Saracens ....?! ... you don't not need any imagination, this you can see in Sicily, in Scicli town in the province of Ragusa, when on the last Saturday of May, comes to life the feast in honor of the patron saint Our Lady of the Militia with the reenactment of the "Sacred Representation" with the participation of the villagers who, in period costume, recall the feat of arms of 1091 among the Normans of Count Roger de Hauteville and the Saracens led by the Emir Belcane, with the resolute intervention of the Virgin Mary coming down from heaven riding a prancing white horse saved the people of Scicli from Saracen raids. The "Feast of the Militia" is the only event commemorating the descent of the Virgin on an horse, who, armed with a sword, saved the Sicilians from Saracen invaders. This is a report about the Sicilian feast, unique in its kind, in which, besides the procession and the Holy Representation, is held the feast of the Heads of Turkish, traditional cake of Scicli with reference to the singular form of the Turkish turbans, in memory of the "Battle of Militia ".

There was a funeral in progress today, in the wind and rain at Hurlford/Riccarton cemetery, not nice for the mourners I know, but somehow I don't think I would like to be buried on a sunny-day. Of course I won't be aware of weather or much else on the fateful date of my burial, but it will take place here in Hurlford where I will eventually be laid to rest with my parents. Today I am here to lay a wreath in fond appreciation of the gift of life they gave me and of all they did for me thereafter. RIP Till We Meet.
The upright support seen in the picture secures a gravestone behind that of my parents. Is this is the best way of dealing with the problem? - I'm not sure.

This photo was taken at the cemetery on 17th October this year when I went to visit my Dad on the anniversary of his death. It's in a lovely location, on a hill above the town, but of course is always a sad visit.
My entry for No.19 - Depressing or Sorrowful in 113 in 2013.
I'm sorry for flooding the pool at the moment, but I'm looking back over my Instagram 365 of this year and seeing if I can use some of the shots for the 113 in 2013 project at which I spectacularly failed this year. Needless to say, I won't finish it, but if I can achieve half, I'll be pleased.
I won't be doing the 114 in 2014 project next year - that'll be too demanding; but I am interested in a 52 week project to give me something to achieve in 2014. If any of you know of one, I'd be really pleased if you could leave a link for me to check out. Thank you. x
Well, I'm almost recovered from my little mini-vacation. I hit East Tawas, MI for the forth, watched the community band play patriotic tunes, saw the fireworks from about 400' from where they were lighting them off (nice and close!), hit the Dairy Queen for some ice cream, then returned to my Mom-n-Pop motel in Oscoda, MI for the night (a new one for me, and a nice one). A great fourth!
The next day, I continued northward, hitting garage, yard and estate sales as I found them, picking up a few new treasures along they way. (A couple new vintage cameras, a vintage record player, etc, etc) Ended up in Michigan's upper peninsula at St. Ignace. I was heartbroken when I saw that our favorite little Mom-n-Pop motel had gone under. :-( Tried another Mom-n-Pop nearby, one that I'd seen often but not tried. Nice place! The owner now wants me to help fix their sign. (laugh) (We got talking signs, and...well, there ya go) I might do it in exchange for free lodging when I need it.
The next day (Monday) was spent meandering back south, but on the west side of the state. More discoveries, and I found a great little roadside restaurant that we'll be visiting again.
Lots of fun. I hope you all had a great 4th as well! :-)
From yesterday visit, person just a stranger.

26 August 2019, Bra, Italy - Aicha Dalati syrian beekeeper in the Aleppo Governorate, and other beneficiaries of the joint FAO and Slow Food Project, visit Local store, where local organic food products are sold. Slow Food and the Food and Agrlculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are organizing a study tour this week in northwest Italy for a group of Syrian small-scale women farmers. The two organizations have teamed up to enhance the skills of small-scale women food producers from Syria, all with the aim of supporting crisis-affected communities to regain or boost their livelihoods and reviving the country's agriculture sector. Ten Syrian women will learn from farming communities in Piedmont and Liguria regions that produce and promote local organic and artisan foods marked by high quality and respect for traditions. They are expected to gain knowledge on all aspects of production, marketing and value chains of a range of products - including dairy, honey, oil, cereals, breads and vegetables - and to pass on this knowledge to other women farmers in their communities upon their return. They will also be included in the global Slow Food network of local farmers so that they can continue learning and sharing knowledge and experiences.
