20x30s, 180mm-f/2.8, D7000, full-moon rising, sea-level.
first time using a home made mount, an interesting set of artifacts :
- gradients from sunset and full moon
- periodic error at guiding to be corrected, apparently the periodic error is strong and matches the guiding video time sampling, the correction feedback amplify the troubles every 15s ...
- first time stacking very reproductible frames, as a result small sensor hot-spots make circular patterns from field rotation (visible at full size)
that's a not so bad first light for this mount.

The apse fresco. Things that caught my eye in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, one of my favourite Roman Churches.
I don't believe in star signs. But that's me - typical Virgo! ~ adapted from Matt Lucas*.
My horoscope this week is thus:
Virgo Aug 24-Sep 23
You have good luck all around you, so stop worrying about a recent problem, turn the page and look ahead. With so much action in the area of your skies that rules creativity, romance and self-expression, the importance of being true to your needs and feelings is strongly stressed. A new relationship could also start this week.
Well, that sounds good, doesn't it? 'Stop stressing about the 10,000 words you need to write before the 29th, get out your camera and find the man of your dreams!'
Simples... as the anthropomorphic meerkat would say.
*I think. Anyone want to confirm it or enlighten me?

After creating OZ-13MSX1 Vayeate and OZ-13MSX2 Mercurius, the Colony Doctors were forced by OZ to mass produce a new line of mobile suits which would later be incorporated into OZ's Mobile Doll program. The new machine, the OZ-02MD Virgo, incorporated the powerful offensive and defensive technology of the Vayeate and Mercurius, as well as gundanium armor, which was highly effective against the weapons of most mass-produced mobile suits.
The Virgo is a slow machine incapable of quick maneuvers. Instead, it relies on its heavy offensive and defensive capabilities to weather enemy attacks and return a devastating counterattack.

This was a challenge (I think I say that every time).... due to the light pollution here in San Jose and the low altitude I was trying to image at for the initial part of each session.
I centered the image on Markarian's Chain but with the wonderful wide field of view of the 135mm lens, I got a lot of the Virgo Cluster imaged. You can see so many tiny galaxies!
This target would have been better served with a lot more integration time. Even with decent calibration frames the light pollution created an awful gradient. The right hand side of the image was angled downward (toward the ground) with the left had side of the image pointed closer to zenith for this target. As such, the right hand side of the image had a gnarly bright cast to it. I used the "Uncalibrated 2" preset in StarTools to wrangle it as best as I could.
In addition to that, I also processed this as L, RGB versus incorporating the RGB into a synthetic L. Since I don't have a focuser for this setup I took RGB over two nights but toggled the sequence to do RGBRGB with 215 frames each (and dithering of course). I focused the lens to the green filter figuring that would produce a decently sharp red and blue.
I did another revision of this with a synthetic L but it didn't look as clean.
Overall I was impressed with what I was able to achieve given the bright skies and the ultra widefield view. It is a really rich area of the sky and it is fun to see all the little galaxies peppered throughout the background.

The silver stars and silhouette of Virgo are illustrated in this handmade block print. The Greeks and Romans associated Virgo with their goddess of wheat/agriculture, Demeter, who is the mother of Persephone and often shown like this with a palm frond and a sheath of wheat. Parts of the constellations of Bootes, Libra, Corvus and Crater and the dashed line of the ecliptic are also shown. If you imagined all celestial bodies we see in the night sky as mapped onto a sphere (the Celestial Sphere) around our Earth, the ecliptic would be the line you would draw to map the apparent path of the Sun through the various constellations. The word Virgo and symbol ♍ appear at the top of the image. The lines linking the constellation appear in silver-on-blue or blue-on-silver as appropriate. There are a few bright galaxies or star clusters shown as circles. I printed an edition of ten prints, 10 inches by 7.5 inches (25.4 cm by 19 cm) on lovely, deep blue, handmade, Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper with silk fibres.
8.4.2009: Glorification of the Virgin, north transept, Chartres cathedral, France. In the rose, the Virgin Mary and child Jesus are surrounded by some of Jesus's royal ancestors, as listed in Matthew 1:1-16 (from top clockwise David, Solomon, Ahaz, Manasseh, Hezekiah, Rehoboam).
Dans quelques jours, c'est mon anniversaire.
Je plaisante beaucoup sur le fait que je sois vierge.
Voici donc ma version de la "vierge à l'enfant".

In a few days, it's my birthday.
In french, Virgo and virgin are the same word. I joke a lot about the fact I'm "vierge".
So this is my version of "Virgin and Child"
