Virginia Beach VA. Formerly known as Seashore State Park, this park is known as the northern-most location for Spanish Moss in the United States. It marks the site where the English settlers that founded Jamestown first set foot in what is now Virginia.

New River Trail State Park is easily the one I visit the most. I can access it at many different locations, there are lots of cool old railroad tunnels and trestles, and it's all included in a small yearly fee of 66 bucks. A pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
Chippokes Plantation is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country. A working farm since 1619, the park offers modern recreational activities and a glimpse of life in a bygone era. Visitors tour the historic area with its antebellum mansion and outbuildings, stroll through formal gardens, and view antique equipment at the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum. The River House was built on the property in the 1830 but has never been restored by the owners or the state. Black Vultures have taken up residence here.
Another shot from Leesylvania Park taken this morning. I climbed up above the beach to an old abandoned Civil War Era Fort and this was the fence seperating it from the cliff overlooking the beach and fishing pier below.
The entire area was covered in a thick fog, and I felt that a shallow DoF monochrome shot would convery the atmosphere there ideally.

The Yorkie and Me took a stroll up to the very windy Appalachian Trail near Grayson Highlands State Park. Days like this really tell how the Blue Ridge Mountains got the name.
This is the last shot of mine through the Canon 70-200 f4L IS. Hopefully the next guy has just as much fun as I did.

What a night! I can't say I had the best luck catching meteors, but being on top of WIlburn Ridge all by my lonesome during the most recent Geminid Meteor Shower was quite an experience!
First off, it was INSANELY cold. When I was packing my things, I had a hard time determining whether or not I should just bring everything or go light, and I went light, and it was freezing! I put on a couple layers and brought a 40° sleeping bag to block the wind, it was pretty good for most of the time, but when I would stop moving around I would get really really cold!
Composing was a challenge up here too, since I was working with long exposures, I needed a sturdy, calm place to set up the tripod. I found one spot in a small crevice where I both set up my camera and found an almost comfortable place to relax on the rocks. Whenever I would move around, I would be reminded of the punishing winds that are common place up on Wilburn Ridge. I toughed it out as long as I could before moving down to catch the moonrise.
Even though I didn't catch a bunch of meteors like 2 years ago, I am very happy for what I got to witness up there. I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did, even though I was in pain from the cold and a long way from my warm car!

The long meteor on the left was one of the most intense I had ever seen in both brightness and length. The only problem is that the lens I was using (Rokinon 14mm T3.3) vignettes BADLY, so it really dulled the intensity of the meteor, and every effort I made to recover it just made it look worse:)
