An absolutely spectacular adult male Truong Son Pit Viper (Trimeresurus truongsonensis) found coiled in an ambush posture within an elevated, shallow rock cleft at a limestone cave entrance in karst rainforest within the magnificent Phong Nha-Ke Bang NP in the Quang Binh Province of central Vietnam.
This species was quite recently described. It is currently regarded as endemic to the karst rainforest incorporating the Annamite Mountain Range, an area notable for its overall high endemism and species diversity. It is an area recently subjected to intensive scientific scrutiny because of these attributes. For example, a collaboration between German and Vietnamese researchers culminated in 46 published papers dealing with the herpetofauna of Phong Nha - Ke Bang alone, from 2000-2009!
In line with so many species recorded from the Annamite region that are currently regarded as endemic for Vietnam, it's occurrence in similar habitats in neighbouring Laos cannot be excluded.

Bornean Keeled Green Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus subannulatus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia
A Bornean keeled green viper waits for prey along the banks of the Segama River, it stayed in the same area for several days just moving a few body lengths over the course of them. I wanted to get a wide angle shot showing off the area it was in, the angles were a tad bit tricky but I'm reasonably happy with this shot. It was very rewarding not to disturb this viper and come back and see it every day for a while.
France; Lignac, Brenne 6/6/23.
Upturned snout. About 60cms long. I originally mistook this for a Viperine snake (Natrix maura) as it was in water. The markings didn't look right though, also the shape of the head. There are photos of similar poorly marked Asp Vipers on Flickr.
At about 1 metre in length, this snake was easy to see on the highway. After a couple pictures, I encouraged it to cross the road, and not sit and sun on it.
It's still NoVVember! I've gone back to my Lego building roots with this Vic Viper. Stripes,1x4 hinge bricks to create angles and no curved bricks: just slopes to created faceted faces.

I would say the story of Adam and Eve come in here. Apples and temptation, but in this case the Viper may be more tempting 😉

It was the garden of eden; the beginning of time
Adam said to Eve, "Little girl, I wanna make you mine!"
She said, "Wait a minute, big boy, not so fast!
I wanna think this over; I wanna love that's gonna last! "
Eve said to Adam, "Catch me if you can!"
It's been the same ol' story ever since the world began.
Honey, I'll give you anything in this great big world
She said, "Forget those rotten apples, I'll take some diamonds and some pearls!"
He said, "I don't know exactly what it is you mean!"
And then since she could remember she had this pretty dream
Eve said to Adam, "Catch me if you can!"
It's been the same 'ol story ever since the world began.
