Ana Maria Mazzotti (Caxias do Sul, August 17, 1950 - São Paulo, January 20, 1988), better known as Ana Mazzotti, was a Brazilian singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist.

A great live set by one of the best and most-overlooked Brazilian singers of the 70s! Ana's singing here with a tight little combo, and she backs herself up with some strong piano work, played in a style that perfectly aguments her lovely voice. The sound's sparer than on other albums, but the groove's tight and hard, and very lively. The set includes a great reworking of her classic groover 'Roda Mundo', plus the cuts 'Grand Chick', 'O Causo', and 'Perguntacao'.

Thembi is the seventh album by free jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, released in 1971.

Sanders moved away from the long, intense compositions of his earlier albums and produced an album of shorter tracks. He and other musicians played a large variety of instruments. Sanders played tenor, alto, and soprano saxophone, balaphone, small percussion instruments, and a cow horn.

Sanders's other major collaborator, pianist and composer Lonnie Liston Smith, performs on Thembi (though this would be the last time they recorded together). Also featured are violinist Michael White, bassist Cecil McBee, and percussionists Chief Bey, Majid Shabbaz, and Nat Bettis. "Thembi", "Astral Travelling" and "Morning Prayer" were included on the two-disc anthology, You've Got to Have Freedom, on Soul Brother Records.

Lonnie Liston Smith began experimenting with electric keyboards while recording this album:

On Thembi, that was the first time that I ever touched a Fender Rhodes electric piano.

Rashied Ali, born Robert Patterson (July 1, 1933 – August 12, 2009) was an American free jazz and avant-garde drummer who was best known for performing with John Coltrane in the last years of Coltrane's life.

New Directions in Modern Music is a live album by the Rashied Ali Quartet. It was recorded at The East in Brooklyn, New York, during 1971, and was released in 1973 by Ali's Survival Records. On the album, Ali is featured on drums and percussion, and is joined by saxophonist and flutist Carlos Ward, pianist Fred Simmons, and bassist Stafford James. In 1999, the recording was reissued by Survival in conjunction with Knit Classics.

Ali, who replaced Elvin Jones in John Coltrane's band, formed this quartet after Coltrane's death. On this session Fred Simmons was standing in for the regular pianist, Don Pullen. The style of musically carried on from where Coltrane left off - high energy stuff, with lots of drumming and long solos.
