I bought some stuff from a friend, including Operetta's jacket, and was pleasantly surprised to find Robecca's old-timey iCoffin player in the package as well! I reckon it's one of the coolest accessories they've put out so far.

Of course, Robecca's accessories generally have tons of detail but never enough paint. I had a bit of fun painting some of her things today. I put a bit of silver and black paint on her belt and wristwatch, a light brushing of black paint on the speaker on her victrola, and some black, silver and white paint on her tank-tread boots.

At some point I think I might put a bit of paint on her body too, to make the rivets and such stand out more.

Green Consolidated School, #99, Est. 1916

The last consolidated school in Barnes County, North Dakota

April 2022

"The school opened in September 1916. There were three on the faculty: E.L. Bow, the principal and teacher of 8th grade and all of high school; Clara Larsen, who taught the intermediate grades; and Amy Evenson, the primary grades teacher.

The total enrollment that first year was 79.

Because there was no teacherage, the principal, his wife and daughter lived in the school’s science room and library, and Miss Evenson lived in a classroom’s cloakroom; Miss Larsen lived at home.

Books, desks and two Victrolas were purchased from the schools which had closed for the merger. Aladdin lamps were used at first. A Delco light plant was installed later. The Rural Electrification Administration brought electricity to the school in 1939." (Article from "The Forum") - So there wasn't any electricity for awhile!

The high school closed in 1956, after this students finished out high school at other schools. The last student to graduate was in 1953, she was the only student in the class

Thanks to URQUAN 999 for mentioning Spooky Girl in the previous Haunted House photo. I had been trying to think of a way to use the victrola (gramophone?) in a picture and I realized it would be fitting for her to be playing the music.

It's hard to see but the album actually says "Monster Rock" :-) I just love all the details that Lego puts into these sets.

While I am in SL working on our home, I usually have the music off and listen to my own CD's, mostly right now I have Nightwish on in the background, but the other day I had them on shuffle and this song came on randomly. I admit, I haven't thought of this one in ages. But wow, her voice, the base (my favorite instrument, not sure why), the lyrics and just the overall feeling of this song. Perfect for the hot summer days.. and a lovely tribute to the King. Smooth as.. well.. black Velvet 😜

Black Velvet - Alannah Miles

Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell

Jimmy Rodgers on the Victrola up high

Mama's dancin' with baby on her shoulder

The sun is settin' like molasses in the sky

The boy could sing, knew how to move ev'rything

Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

Black velvet and that little boy smile

Black velvet with that slow southern style

A new religion that'll bring you to your knees

Black velvet if you please

Up in Memphis the music's like a heat wave

White Lightnin' bound to drive you wild

Mama's baby's in the heart of ev'ry school girl

"Love Me Tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle

The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true

Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

Black velvet and that little boy smile

Black velvet and that slow southern style

A new religion that'll bring you to your knees

Black velvet if you please

Ev'ry word of ev'ry song that he sang was for you

In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon

What could you do?

Black velvet and that little boy smile

Black velvet in that slow southern style

A new religion that'll bring you to your knees

Black velvet if you please

Black velvet and that little boy smile

Black velvet in that slow southern style

A new religion that'll bring you to your knees

Black velvet if you please

If you please

If you please

If you please

August 21, 2016 - There is nothing quite like spinning a record. There is a nostalgia, a warmth, to the sound. No CD can ever replace the mesmerizing rotation of vinyl on a turntable.

This is a 1924 Victrola that needs a new home, along with the strange collection of 78 rpm records that go with it.

Música, porque hoje é sexta!

Bom final de semana pra todos nós! :)

The Plant Museum is located in the original Tampa Bay Hotel. For their Christmas Walk this guest room is given over to a Christmas concert played on the Victrola for the assembled dolls and toys..

Overnight, mom's transplanted roses popped up out of nowhere. They're in the front and back of the house now. I cannot wait to pick a few of these and put it next to her on the Victrola.

This very old statue was a Birthday gift to myself almost 2 years ago. He’s about 15 inches tall, is fairly heavy, and his paint is severely chipped; I worry about how best to preserve him. (You can see some of the chips which fell to the floor when I placed him in the light for this portrait.) I just couldn’t leave him there in the antique store window when I passed by that day; his eyes are so ‘puffy’ as if he’s had a very long cry.

Blythe doll thought she was prepared for this theme day and realized that her music room is a disaster! 😯 And, that most of her music choices are quite outdated ha ha ! she still has a Walkman, CD player, old-fashioned record player, eight track tapes and even a Victrola that didn’t make it into the picture 😅

If you are old enough, yea, really. Several relatives had Victrolas. You wanna get in trouble as a youngster, get caught turning the handle with no record on the turntable, or push the pedal on an old Singer sewing machine. Victrola, one of the leading turntable manufacturers, was born in 1906 in Camden, NJ when first introduced to the American public by the Victor Talking Machine Company. Full of entrepreneurial ideas and known for its use of quality materials, Victor (later becoming RCA) was the largest and most successful turntable manufacturer of its time. So many memories at the Greene County Historical Society Museum.

And changing back again... These record players are pretty popular now and my kids love having records... (Currently playing, Yaz)

This photo was also taken during the lockdown of three years ago. I was using a dated roll of Plus-X film and decided to try to get as many photos shot in one day as possible. I chose downtown Glendale, as it is within walking distance, and the fact that, like so many cities and communities here in California and around the country, the area looked more like a ghost town. So many stores and businesses were closed up. Some never reopened, the pandemic hit them that hard.

This store, a little hole-in-the-wall place, was not affected. It was closed when I took the photo, but it would eventually reopen. Whenever I walk by this place, the old photograph (or maybe it's a Victrola) is still in the window.

This photo was taken with my dad's Petri non-reflexed 35mm camera, using Plus-X negative, ASA 125.

Detail of interior brick wall at the new Victrola on Pike. It warms the cockles of my heart to see new businesses that respect the beautiful old bones and architectural details of the spaces they build upon.

ENTRY: LP Hamon ko 'To #99: "Playing Music"

Looking down the horn used to "amplify" the sound from a Victrola. For those who might not be aware, that was a phonograph, produced by the Victor Talking Machine Company, in the early twentieth century.

[Explored - up to #98 and looks like it finished at #127. Thanks to all who had a look!!]

Across the Seam between the Ages in the Multiverse has come this way in the form of Victorian era Autochromes. These are quite unexpected as Your Humble Servant has not seen Autochromes from other Ages, until now. This style of colored images were popular during the late 1800's and early 1900's in this, our present Age.
