T-Ford from 1921 and old trucks. Especially the beautifully restored Model T Ford from 1921 shows that a somewhat longer drive was quite a journey. Especially when you consider that the road network was much less comfortable and there were not that many roads available.

Since 1979 Hellevoetsluis (a small city in the Netherlands close to Rotterdam) organizes every year a event called "De Vestingdagen". Every year a estimated amount of 200,000 people come to see this spectaculair event.
In the very beginning this event was started with a so called "Steam-weekend" close to the tramstation in Hellevoetsluis where a steamtram made his rides. The first event only existed of one day(Friday) but in the year after they already decided to extend this event to three days (Friday till Sunday)
A lot of different vessels and vehicles where present during this event where steam was the main subject. Nowadays there are still a lot of old vehicles to see and some old steam machines but there are more modern vessels present where you can take a look on.(police boats, coastguard boats, fire-brigade boats ect). You can hear music everywere there is a also a small market, a fun fair and spectaculair canon firing demostrations. When night falls there is life music and al bars and clubs(small) stay open until late in the night.

Sinds 1979 worden in Hellevoetsluis jaarlijks de zogenaamde vestingdagen georganiseerd. Ieder jaar bezochten ongeveer 200.000 mensen dit gratis evenement. In eerste instantie werd het "Stoomweekend" georganiseerd ter hoogte van de Tramhaven in Hellevoetsluis waar toen ook nog een Stoomtram reed.
De eerste Vestingdagen waren feitelijk een Vestingdag. Alleen op de zaterdag was er een evenement. Het jaar erop werd besloten een evenement te organiseren van vrijdag tot en met zondag. Allerlei voer- en vaartuigen waren er te zien, waarbij de nadruk lag op stoom. Ook oude vrachtauto's en oude militaire voertuigen konden worden bewonderd. Er werd ook gedacht aan de muzikale invulling, verschillende bekende als onbekende bandjes en artiesten kwamen langs. Een ieder jaar terug kerend fenomeen waren The Amazing Stroopwafels voor het café "Het Barbiertje." De Vestingdagen trokken ook veel jongeren, vanwege de kermis, braderie en uitgaansgelegenheden 's avonds.
Steam engines - very impressive!. Many historic steam engines, impressive, large and hissing, and beautifully lit in the evening. Not only were they parked somewhere but they also drove around the old city center which got a lot of attention from the public. The sound of the steam whistles has long been the typical sound for another summer edition of the Vestingdagen event.

We are already at the "G" I had no idea what to take for this letter until I saw this @ "De Vestingdagen" in Hellevoetsluis. The coastguard gave away a demonstration. These guys (and girls) risk their own lives to save others....... These guys are really Good Guys!

Een groot deel van de grotere schepen die vanaf het vierde kwart van de negentiende eeuw niet meer geschikt waren, kregen een passieve rol toegewezen als logement- of wachtschip. De verbouwing bestond meestal uit het verwijderen van de masten, schoorsteen, machines en de bewapening en het uitbreiden van de accommodatie. Op de “Buffel” werden 350 matrozen in opleiding gehuisvest in het schip, dat oorspronkelijk ontworpen was voor 115 schepelingen. Op dek werd een kooiverschansing aangebracht om overdag de kooien van de manschappen in op te bergen. Bovendien werd een tentconstructie aangebracht om het bovendek tegen weersinvloeden te beschermen. Deze werd later vervangen door een houten conserveringskap.

A large part of the larger ships, which were no longer suitable from the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century, were assigned a passive role as a logistical or warship. The "Cirtoën B2" is the second production car of Citroën and was build by founder André Citroën him self. The production of this car occurred between May 1921 and July 1926 and was intend be served as the replacement for the all ready existing "Citroën Type A".
The car has a 1452 cc engine that can deliver a amazing strength of 20 horsepower and his maximum speed reaches till 72 km/h (bye bye veyron). But still if we take a look at the current gas prices.... this car only needs 8 liters to drive 100 kilometer not that bad i guess.
But the most amazing part of the story about this car is the speed it was produced with i think. They managed to produce 200 cars a day with the oppertunity to choose one of the 25 different available bodies for each single car.
A very special trip is of course with a steam tug like the Schiedam or "Hercules" (anno 1915). Great to see these ships sailing and it's a cruise with various historic steam tugs for only 2 euros..
