The lighthouse in the fortress of Hellevoetsluis is the oldest original and working round lighthouse in the Netherlands. The lighthouse dates from 1822 and is characteristic of the fortress of Hellevoetsluis and its history.
The tower is 18.10m high, is painted cream and has 2 floors. Around the iron lighthouse with copper dome is a cast iron walkway with balustrade, which rests on openwork cast iron consoles. The tower was extensively renovated in 1901 and tiled up to the entrance in 1961. There are a number of round window openings in the tower.

Fortress Days - an annual multi-day event since 1979. Most popular are the many steam engines from England but also the many historic vehicles such as cars, trucks, tractors, agricultural machines, military vehicles, fire engines and buses. Furthermore, activities such as a fair, model and parts market, mineral and fossil show, and organ concerts. There is also plenty to do on the water and in the air, such as short boattrips, a naval parade, helicopter demonstrations and a fireworks show. This with music from various bands and artists and with about 200.000 visitors in total a well attended event.

Steam engines - very impressive!. Many historic steam engines, impressive, large and hissing, and beautifully lit in the evening. Not only were they parked somewhere but they also drove around the old city center which got a lot of attention from the public. The sound of the steam whistles has long been the typical sound for another summer edition of the Vestingdagen event.

Steam engine driven saw machine. A steam engine uses a heavy flywheel to drive a huge belt that supplies machine power to a sawing machine connected further away. Thick tree trunks quickly turn into beams in the sawing machine, a somewhat smaller steam crane brings in new trees to be sawn.
An entire undertaking with enormously heavy machines that require a great deal of skill and an eye for safety from the drivers....

....................................................................................................................
The ram was also practiced, but was a relative success partly due to the damage to the Buffel itself and especially to the interior and technical equipment of the ship.
The fact that the rambo could seriously damage was revealed on July 30, 1888, when the Buffalo had a collision with Hyena ram monitor during an exercise, which quickly made water and sunk.
Classic buses. A wide collection of buses, most of them belong to Haags Bus Museum, shows how much buses have changed. The shape has largely remained the same, but the comfort has visibly improved. Most buses are still known from earlier times.

I took this picture during "De Vestingdagen" in my home town. There are a few relations with Bart his toes photo. There are six feet in "a row", every feet have "five" toes and the weakest relation you can also travel by feet.

Since 1979 Hellevoetsluis (a small city in the Netherlands close to Rotterdam) organizes every year a event called "De Vestingdagen". Every year a estimated amount of 200,000 people come to see this spectaculair event.
In the very beginning this event was started with a so called "Steam-weekend" close to the tramstation in Hellevoetsluis where a steamtram made his rides. The first event only existed of one day(Friday) but in the year after they already decided to extend this event to three days (Friday till Sunday)
A lot of different vessels and vehicles where present during this event where steam was the main subject. Nowadays there are still a lot of old vehicles to see and some old steam machines but there are more modern vessels present where you can take a look on.(police boats, coastguard boats, fire-brigade boats ect). You can hear music everywere there is a also a small market, a fun fair and spectaculair canon firing demostrations. When night falls there is life music and al bars and clubs(small) stay open until late in the night.
