Tourtour Provence is like a village in the sky. Set on top of a windy hill (elevation 900 meters) with sweeping views all the way out to Frejus and the Mediterranean with the Mount St Victoire between. It’s a little known part of the Haute Var, Provence but it’s so worth seeking out.
The population is just under 500 but the locals are a tight knit group who put on one of the most amazing festivals known as the Fête de l’Oeuf (egg Festival) around Easter every year.
Tourtour is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France and is well worth a visit. Take a walk through tiny cobbled streets to admire the well-restored village houses with their manicured gardens. There are lot of art galleries, the streets are peppered with fountains and it’s a very photogenic place. You’ll also spot ancient remains of older buildings, and the town hall is in a 17th century castle complete with turrets.
There’s a fossil museum, created by a local resident with a serious interest in fossils. The church of Saint-Denis at the top of the village is a classified historic monument and the views from its spot are outstanding.
The restaurants serve simple yet freshly made food which of course goes perfectly with a nice glass of chilled rosé. It’s about a 20 minutes’ drive from lively Cotignac. If you can take the road via Aups or Villecroze which, by the way, are also both villages worth a detour should time allow.
Most of the cafés and bars in Tourtour serve casual food – check out the great frites at La Farigoulette. But, there is also the more distinguished “La Table” restaurant with one Michelin star where you will find dishes like sautéed Ray or Guinea fowl. Prices here start at 28 euros per person.

Whilst in lockdown in early May we could only walk or stay in the garden. We are blessed to have had such a lovely spot within walking distance - then the colours had really started to pop but now at the end of May it has been so hot and dry that brownish grass is taking over. I though I would post this as a lovely reminder of earlier times.......
My life has been incredibly busy lately and seems like it will for the next while, so I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep up with your images. I will try to comment at your latest images today.
In case you're wondering, I used ICM (intentional camera movement) here. Taken at Van Dusen Gardens in Vancouver.

Though summer was exceedingly hot in the Pacific Northwest, there were times and places to cool off such as this falls in the Columbia River Gorge.
Another from Chinnor HIll. I've been so busy of late that I'm a mile behind with processing and also with commenting on other images on flickr. Apologies!

Today was a lovely time for a hike in Heart Lake, the first few days of fall are always the most amazing as the leaves are just starting to lose their colour and change from dark green to a very light yellow.
The sun was just past midday and was falling into the western sky, a sudden burst of its brilliant light found a gap in the canopy and like a huge spotlight flooded the forest floor with its golden rays.

Another from a spectacular night on the shore at Lyfjord in the Norwegian Arctic Circle.
This was my first real display of the Aurora Borealis on my recent trip to Norway. We were extremely lucky to see them on three of the next four nights. This display was strong but the colour was mainly green. The following nights displays were more strong and had more reds and blues in the sky. They were also much more visible with the naked eye.
However, as this was my first real experience it stood out as a much more memorable event. The dancing lights lasted for over 2 hours and I filled a memory card with images and whilst was extremely cold I didn't notice as I was captivated!

There has been a lot of rain in the Pacific Northwest this April and into May, yielding wonderful greens. And while the clouds have limited photography, hopefully that means a modest fire season in the region this summer.
Those verdant greens . . . 'neath that royal sky . . . is enough for me . . . to feel so high...
