The first generation of Celica was introduced ran between 1970-77, as Toyota's Capri competitor. Based on the floorpan of the Carina with the styling of a notchback coupe.
The range was facelifted in 1975 with a revised bumper and grille. The Liftback was introduced to the Japanese market in 1973 but not until 1976 for export models.
