27034 burnt out at Eastfield.

It had been working a Partially Fitted freight on the Highland Main Line near Blair Atholl ,with the loco doing most of the braking and the resultant heat ignited oil spillage. This fate befell many of the Class 27s over the years by nature of the large amount of unfitted or partially fitted freights they worked over steeply graded routes.

This car was originally a solid blue colour and had become rather tatty, possibly even accident-damaged. Luckily it fell into the right hands and its new owner did an excellent job of restoring it. The West London guys do love their Violets...

Paxman Valenta-engined HST prototype 41001 (43000) rests at Loughborough Junction on the GCRN (1/11/14), having just completed a successful test run hauling a rake of 3 Mk2 coaches; 47292 bringing up the rear.

41001 has been restored to working order by Project Miller, and undertook this test run ahead of a special railtour on November 15, where the prototype HST will work alongside a production HST power car (an EMT unit) for the very first time.

More information about Project Miller can be found at www.projectmiller.org.uk/.

A Mexican Police vehicle. I think this vehicle just sits parked considering it has a flat tire and didn't move all week. Sorry for the quality, this picture was taken from a moving vehicle.

For me, today saw the first of this season's Christmas lunches. This one was for members and friends of POPS (Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society). Unbelievably in these apathetic and cash strapped times there was a very good turn out with participants rewarded by an excellent time and good food. The majority of those attending travelled in style too aboard ex PMT Weymann bodied 'Dual purpose' AEC Reliance, 805 EVT. The bus is seen here pulling into Birchenwood / Stonebank Road, Kidsgrove bus stop at about mid-day in the early stages of the pick ups.

My final visit to Wakes of Wincanton was in August 2001 when the change to South West Coaches was well under way.

Here we see Bedford YMQ / Duple Dominant II OPS550X, new in 1981 to Orkney operator Mills of Baltasound, and acquired by Wakes in 1986. OPS550X went on to a life in preservation cut short by an unfortunate fire which destroyed this coach in 2012.

They gave us a chance to load up into the tenders and take photos of the Star Clipper while it was under full sails. We were sailing into Yithion, Greece, but were far enough out to allow us to take this photo break.
